    Bf2 Ctd

Game starts up fine, but when I try to access my audio options in the Options pane, the game crashes to desktop without any error message. Same thing happens when I try to connect to a multiplayer game or single player game. I've tried to reinstall the game and apply all recent patches as well as all video, audio, directx, punkbuster, and.net framework patches. Still, the game crashes to desktop when accessing the audio options or loading a game. I have searched the internet of forums regarding this issue, but no luck. What do I do?

    **NOTE**

Been playing this game for almost 2 years without any issues at all. Also, I have been playing this game on this system in particular since February 2007 and until recently it starts to crash. I logged on one night and played; worked fine. Logged on the following morning and then this. For a while I have been researching this and trying everything that people have suggested but no luck, so I just stopped playing. But recently I have been wanting to play so I went out and bought another copy just in case my CD was screwed up. Still same thing happens. I know this is happening to a lot of people, but someone has to have a fix for this issue. I tried to contact EA but no response.

try this below, it could be your sound card. did you ever delete cache's? and did you ever do a manual uninstall? could be a registry problem & need to manually uninstall & reinstall.

try disabling your sound card in your control panel then start game see if it works

no in the sound & audio thas in your control panel theere is a audio tab, at top should be a dropdown with "sound playback" in it, if you onboard drivers are still there it should be in that dropdown. just hit it, try bf2 see if it works. or you can go into device manager & right click on it & hit disable that way you knkow you got it. its just a though might not even be teh SC. kinda odd that it does it when you hit the audio tab.

Tested it and still crashes. I disabled sound card- crash. Reinstalled drivers from original CD- crash. Tried different versions of driver- crash. Not only does the game crash when i hit the audio tab, but also crashes after I load a map (right before the button pops up to play). GOD! This is sooo annoying. I dont get it.

it can be a pain in the aszz, have you changed your monitor refresh rate or any thing you can think of when all this started? have you tried a system restore? mabye a registry scan for errors? and most aggravating but faithful a manual uninstall & reinstall?

            sry im nut much help:salute:

Yeah, I did all that already.

I have researched it and I came the the conclusion that its Creative Labs. See I'm running off vista and Microsoft took out DirectSound from the Vista audio code. Creative Labs has been having trouble getting drivers to work around that since Battlefield games are DirectSound. But what i dont get is that it was working GREAT for like 6 months then all of a sudden ca-pout, game stops working. I dont get it. Waiting on Creative Labs to get out drivers for this issue. They are aware of it.

no im on xp, been a long time ago, i never could get voip to work & my bf2 would crash from time to time. so i took it out & went back to the onboard sound i had "soundmax" which is a POS , but now my voip works & no more crash.

i've seen others with creative have crashes, anothe thread there somewhere, they reset this forum & unsubb from us from all our threads..... ugh

Is there a way to change the Audio options from files or something outside of game?

yeah if you have your onboard (if you ever had it) or another sound card, you can go into your sound that is in your control panel, and hit audio tab, put on other card, try out bf2 & see if crashes.

No, I meant the Game sound options. I know some games you can change the graphics and sound from a file in the game directory.

But even if I could, I dont think it would make a difference.

So how do I change from my sound card to onboard? I looked in BIOS and didnt see anything.

oh yeah i understand, i donno for sure but i dont think you can change sound in the game, but i could be wrong.

if your computer came with onboard sound you should have a driver to reinstall it with, you'd just take your creative out & reinstall the onboard driver.

may not be the creative, i'd just disable it & crank up bf2 to see if it crashed, i mean you wouldnt have sound but just a game or 2 to try it out. if it crashes then u knkow its not the soundcard.

just go into the sounds in the control panel & hit the hardware tab, find your card , click on hit & hit properties at bottom, at bottom you should see a dropdown & hit disable or "do not use this" & hit apply, try the game & just go back later & put it back

Yeah, that didnt work. Im thinking about doing a clean install of Vista. BF2 worked when i first installed vista on this machine so i dont know why it wouldnt work now.
