    Re: Anyone miss vehicles only?

I think IO is miserable. In my experience, the game becomes horribly deadlocked and turns in a sniper war. Karkand at the bridge, Jalalabad at the gate house, it sucks. The vehicles really "break open" the gameplay. Much more fast paced.

And big, wide open maps like Wake on IO? Hell no. No fun at all.

You could always try different stages other than Jalalabad and Karkand.

i think that I/O is map specific (for me anyway). I dig ghost town as an I/O map, but i am not a fan of jalabad as an I/O (or mashtuur, karkand, etc).

all things being equal, i would rahter have vehicles vs. I/O....

Sure I could. But finding a server that actually plays something other than Mashtuur, Karkand, and Jalalabad IO is next to impossible. I don't think I would want to play any of the larger, more open maps IO anyway.

16 playered maps for instance work perfect with Infantry Only. Dalian Plant, Daqing Oilfields and Kubra Dam are especially perfect when shrunken down.

Then theres Special Forces Maps that work perfect with Infantry Only regardless of their size. Warlord, Ghost Town and Mass Destruction being the most popular ones.

There are many alternatives. People just refuse to look for them. Or are simply afraid to change their play-style to accommodate a different challenge thats associated with a different type of map. Thats why there are so many people with 1000 hours on Karkand, and a collective total of 20 hours on every other map.

Thats also why the 'now' many alternatives, are starting to dissipate. Eventually the server owners will get tired of having a low or no population; and they too will convert to a Karkand IO server... or simply move on to another game.

well the thing is with the alternatives is that alot of people prefer the larger sized servers with 50 people compared to the 16 man small battle.

So leave Infantry Only once in a while, and give Vehicles a chance. Thats always an alternative if you're unhappy about your only Infantry Only choices being Mashtuur, Jalalabad, Karkand and Sharqi. (The City Maps.)

Maybe pick up Special Forces, and give those stages a whirl. Infantry Only is purely better when you have a zip line or a grappling hook to transverse the terrain.

Then theres also plenty of great Infantry Combat hidden away on the somehow still populated mods. PR for example has exemplary infantry game play.

Still not convinced? Theres no convincing you then. However I will always be here to remind people that there is life outside of the dusty streets of Karkand. Well, at least there is for now... I fear that it may not last long.

I think IO is great for the IO player. I'm a tank and air whore and I love war games that encompass all aspects of the battle. I respect both styles, though you will rarely find me in an IO server.

I wish there would be more Vehicle servers. It's so annoying seeing all these great maps in IO and of course, Highway Tampa. Yes yes yes - if you want to run for 2 hours so you can camp inside a bush for 30 min only to get a problem with your connection, than go play a tom clancy game!

Yesterday, my clanmate and I tried to find a vehicle server and after 5 minutes of coming up empty handed, we went back to Team Fortress 2.

It's so disappointing. Also hard to find good SF servers that aren't IO.

I don't really care for 16 player maps. The game moves too slow, I like quicker rounds, not two hour long rounds.

I don't have SF. Might get it some day, but I doubt it.

Yes, there are alternatives. But I think you misunderstood me, I am *NOT* a Karkand/Jalalabad whore, I loathe Karkand and I only tolerate Jalalabad as long as there are vehicles. My point was, and still is, is that its very hard to find an IO server that isn't playing solely the city maps. Therefore, if you want to play IO, you're not left with much a choice.

I tend to avoid IO anyway. Give me Wake, Oman, Daqing, Dalian etc. with vehicles. The city maps are way too overrated.

16 player Oman is one of the best maps ever. Its a great mix between urban combat and a little open field battle. On IO, its far better than Karkand, although you could get one of the worst nade spams around the train.

16 player Oman with 64 players, 400 tickets and all vehicles (2 tanks and 4 heavy jeeps total) is one of the best game modes an infantry player could want. Id rank only Kubra 16 to be close to Oman. Ive always felt Daquing was too depressing for a fun game.

Basically, fun lies in unranked servers with tweaked game settings.

Exactly why you should stick with 2142. Io completely killed team work.

Infantry is pretty much the worst aspect of bf2. Buggy hit detection, weak weapons, homosexual medics and bunny hoppers. Yet people still choose to actually play only infantry? They must either be homos or bunnies. Homosexual bunnies.
