Only the default (TGN Light) theme for now. Dark them is also coming back soon. Then CSN. Then Wrestlin' Nation. A lot of WIP stuff right now. There are a couple of things still not working either. Sorry.
i have comcast... dsl.. i think....
I reinstalled the game, the patch
And its still doing it!!
comcast is cable, check your speed at worst times i bet its spiking down. see cable has like 8000people on oneline & when 8000 are on then the pipe is full, DSL is one per on one line, its more constant, a little slower but constant.
peak times is usually in evening when all kids are home & on myspace.
It's a CPU/FSB/RAM bottleneck. Just replaced my crappy 945G motherboard and upped CPU to 3GHz from the previous 2.4GHz, FSB to 430 from 330, and RAM from 667 to 860 (quite a feat for PC-3200 ) and the difference is insane.
Used to have FPS crawling in the low 30s in some cases (heavy artillery, bombs, etc), but now I just don't drop below 60 & usually hover at around 140fps. It just feels superb watching teammates get blown out of existence by artillery, at 120fps, on a 64 player server. It's 100% the CPU, no doubt.
Same scenario, superb FPS in single player, but in multiplayer it would crawl. Vista is affected heavily by a "crappy" CPU, that's another point. In any case, you're well out of luck unless you can get a Core 2 or similar (Highest end Athlon) and clock it to at least 2.8GHz.
hello i am haveing massive proublums with bf2 online when i play single player my game is 100fps all the time as smooth as anything graphics on all med no shadows and geomatry/ texture's high, 2x aa
but when i play online on a 64 player server my frame rate is 45/55 in fighting its like 35 so un smooth i can't shoot anything i know they will be more of a preformance hit on line but not this much , any help would be great,
specs are.... amd64 3200 2.ghz oc'd to 2.4, 1gig ram dual channel, ecs 939 mainboard, pcix x800xl 400mhz core, oc'd to 515 core from 490 memory to 600 mhz driver's omega 7.3
firstly it's ur oc on the video card thats probely causing the slow down on fps and 1 gb dont help either
secondly the reason u get 100 fps solid is because it's locked at that ingame
try game.lockfps 0 in ur console that will unlock it but i do suggest u cap it at 125fps

Using your asinine theoretical 8000 people, that would have to be one poorly run company to overload one node with 8000 people.
Now, you apparently bought into the advertising by your local DSL company that tells you DSL is better because it isn't shared like cable, right?
Wrong! Unless you're paying thousands of dollars a month to be connected directly to one of the 7 backbones that run across the US, your connection is still shared somewhere. With cable, it's shared somewhere in your neighborhood where your node is physically located.
With DSL, your line is shared at the local CO (Central Office), RT (Remote Terminal), or mini-RT. You have a dedicated line from the DSLAM to your house whereas cable has a dedicated line from the tap to the house. So explain to me how cable is shared and DSL is not.
Furthermore, unless each one of those 8000 theoretical people were online at exactly the same millisecond saturating both the download and upload capacity of their lines, the "pipe" would not be full. Cable traffic, exactly like DSL traffic, comes in bursts from 98% of their customers. The remaining 2% are the ones who run torrenting applications or other forms of file sharing 24/7 and saturate their portion of the node. However, even if they are saturation the line, there are still multiple channels that are open for other customers to use.
There may be 192 people per cable node, but that's not any better than having 500 DSL subscribers connected to the same DSLAM that's fed by a DS3 or an OC1.
Finally, don't confuse bandwidth with latency. The two are almost totally unrelated in regards to usage in online gaming. Think of it like this:
Highway A - 12 lanes, 30 MPH speed limit.
Highway B - 3 lanes, 120 MPH limit.
Highway A has higher bandwidth, it carries more cars at one time but they can only crawl along.
Highway B has 1/4 the bandwidth, but the cars can go 4 times as fast.
Which highway will get you to your destination faster? Highway B. Why? Because it has a higher "speed limit" (lower latency).
If you're going to try and help someone, give them the correct information rather than telling them that their problem is the type of service they subscribe to. Personally, I use the 8/768 service through Comcast, though in the past I have also had a 144k iDSL line and a 384k sDSL line. I have never seen a noticeable difference in ping times or game stability across any of the different "high-speed" services I've had over the past 9 years.
Furthermore, with my cable service, which according to you should be slow during "prime time", I get my full provisioned 8/768 speeds regardless of what I, or any of my neighbors are doing. It's all in the architecture of the network.
If you play on servers that are close (in internet terms, not necessarily geographical terms), you will generally get lower ping times. If you play on a server in Europe or Japan, don't expect playable ping times.
Anyway, it's your CPU/FSB/RAM, guaranteed. It has zilch to do with network performance (unless BF2's in-game framerate is tied to the server's framerate, which is not the case), it's your PC just not handling the multiplayer calculations too well.

I never said that was his problem i just asking if he had cable because it could be his problem
Iron_Weasel FYI i was quoting what my cable man stood in my house & told me, so it wasnt a theoreticalasinine, thats exactly how & what he told me because i was gettin less than 300kb down and about 28 UP.
so if you think that the company is poorly run i agree with you, but you ought to ask where i come up with that before you tryn make me seem ignorant.
and btw i knew somewhere dsl (the CO) was shared, im not stupid! but from my house to the CO is a direct line thru junctions im sure, but from cable to there CO is shared.
If you dont want to belive my "theoretical" help post then thats fine, u dont have to come on here like your mr. smartazz who knows everything.
One thing is for sure, cable man told me that info & not just one, but a few, i dished it & got my DSL & had no other probs. So "belive it or Not" thats your porogative:salute:
*EDit, I forgot , the people i called on the phone to complain said & i quote " were working on getting that fixed" I told them they were false advertising. Im sure cable servers vary from area to area, some probably have fixed the problem , but these here sure havent & i've talked to others across the net who had same prob.

It cant be my cpu specs bc it was running perfectly all the time till the past 2 day!
That was a reply to the original poster. You seem to need to update PunkBuster using pbsetup.exe, google it.
^^^ that would allways be good to do. but i think they said it was freezing up. i might be wrong, i just thought it would boot you if pb was outta date instead of freezing.
never hurts to do the pb_sleep500 in the `console
Yeah, Punkbuster tends to lag up things as well. Never had to put up with this crap with say Cheating Death or VAC, but hey, we're monopolised by Microsoft, EA, nVidia, Intel, and BunkBuster.

hmm, i like pb for what it does, but it is a pain in the azz. glad to know it laggs i didnt realize, i just thought it would like lagg a sec then kick you with a error.:salute:
I was bored & still a little hot over iron weasels tactics i thought id see what i could find on the net about cable vs. dsl & posted a few links i looked at below. i never ment cable wasnt good or dsl was better, my point was even though cable is faster, at the peak times it drags i'll post what one guy wrote here, seems he had same experience i did. so judge for yourself, again im not saying thats anybodys problem i was just asking because it could be, allways take in consideration.

Ah you make some great points, but as for your beleifs on cable being better. I find that your not correctly looking at it. I have had a cable modem for quite some time now and it doesn’t work as well as your making it out to sound. Internet will always have problems, but your put on a server with your cable company. And if your cable company gets alot of customers others are put on that same server. A server thats filled with the full amount it can handle will have horrible speeds. It’s to a point running dial up seems the same. Then you usually can’t access it when it’s peak time of use. And you get alot of down time. Now with DSL you can still use the phone line to dial up a connection so you rarely go down, but Cable leads to a huge issue that doesn’t end. I have had my internet go down for weeks. And the cable tech’s are rarely able to get out to me quick. A severe disadvantage of cable is in that when the server goes down, you are cut off completely. If your cable has issues your internet goes down and servers (especially lately) are always filled. So really DSL is better for those who use the internet often and rely on the connection to be stable, but cable is for those seeking speed and have odd hours when they use it.
