    Re: Freezing and repeated sound

This is what I said in another thread, I used to have this problem about two years ago with my 7800GT. It would do exactly the same thing, sadly I don't remember exactly what it was, but IIRC, it was the 7800GT possibly overheating. Since then I've changed the cooling on the 7800GT and it hasn't locked up since.

Clean your PC out, and underclock the graphics card.

Now I am gonna put forward two ideas here.

1). This is a server side fault. Reasons being that I have the same fault on a PC that is unchanged, on both hardware and driver level since I last played this game flawlessly. Also further encounters of the problem have resulted in the lock up being solved almost straight away by the unplugging of my wireless receiver.

2). Can folk that have been having trouble tell us weather or not Bioshock is installed on their PC? I've heard of this game causing problems with the software protection on one or two other games. This idea only came to me as I was going to say Bioshock runs flawlessly on my system which pretty much rules out overheating issues, that and the fact Rivatuner reports a BF2 Load temp of no more than 70c.

*I did have Bioshock, ive just uninstalled it (i did not have the official Bioshock game) ill give it a whir'll.

          * i have a clean install of windows with all the updates and no other crap.

          * i thought it may have been a overheating error but the CCC says that the temperature is only around 70 - 80 (under full load) which is normal for these cards. I will howezer try underclocking it to see if that works.

          %%% IDEA %%%

I think it may also have something to do with Xfire being on in the background, i will give these sujestions a try and tell you guys the outcome

I read a thread on another forum where the new game "bio shock" was causing probs for other games. something to consider if you have that game.

It has nothing to do with Bioshock, but Rivatuner and Punkbuster don't get along and cause similar problems here. Update Rivatuner and it should give you a few options to deal with PB.

                      *Not using RiverTuner.
                      *No longer installed bioshock.
                      *Dont have Xfire.
*Installed all the XP updates, Fully upto-date.
*All graphic settings set on Highest incluing AntiAneything (1680 X 1050)

                      AND NO CRASH! YEY.
It appears to be fixed, ill give it a test with Xfire tomorrow and see if Xfire is causing the crash.
Been playing for 3 Hrs and not one crash so touch wood all is good.

(Not a Temp issue) - Well not this time?

well now dont uninstall your bioshock,i wasjust saying that some pretty smart peep on another board was talkin about it conflicting with other games bf2 included. but ya know how it goes, could be right, or wrong i'll ask them if they know for sure.
now i know xfire doesnt hurt my game anyway.

Uninstalling Bioshock wouldn't work anyway. An uninstall removes the game Bioshock but leaves the Securom software behind.

I had a dig around to see what this Punkbuster Rivatuner conflict ma be about. All I could find was folk complaining about it affecting copies of Battlefield 214.. what ever it is.

Does BF2 use the same punkbuster software as BF 21... whatever it's called?
