    ABR and Patch 1.4 Update

SatcomNL from the Alternative Battlefield Ranking system has sent this news in today:

Dear Gamers, and faithful visitors, it has taken more than 3 month of waiting, but the wait is finally over and our efforts have paid off. Yesterday, EA released patch 1.4 and today we confirm that 1.4 is completly 100% working on ABR.

What does this mean? It means that ABR is fully operational again. After the added ranking deterrent in 1.3, we convinced EA/DICE that BF2 needs a fix that will make ABR work again. Although, there is no official statement from EA regarding ABR and this 1.4 adjustment, we can assure you that ABR does NOT violate any EULA, for both ServerOwners, and Gamers.

As we are still checking some minor last things, mod teams can start registering their Ranked World for their mod. In our wiki, we're finalizing the instructions and information on how ABR can be implemented in your mod/tournament. Before we open our doors completely, we will implement our Terms Of Service agreement, before you can take part in ABR.

We ask you for that last bit of patience, so we can be sure that the ABR experience will be as smooth as possible. So stay tuned to this area, more updates regarding ABR will follow shortly!

Re: ABR and Patch 1.4 Update

I dont think POE is using the ABR system, I could be wrong.

I think this is great news, and thank ABR for creating a great system. I am interested in stat tracking for fun and reference. I wish that the stat rank systme didnt exist at all TBH, but its time to embrace it and let go of my old ways, lol.

Nice work EA\DICE, and welcome back ABR!!!! :)

Your correct, PoE are not allowed to use ABR officially or even unofficial.

Good to see ABR back and running properly an all round win for the community not letter EA remove ABR functionality.

The guys from ABR utterly went insane for no reason when PoE announced they were creating their own stats system, so yes, PoE using ABR is not ever going to happen.

Its also the reason you're unlikely to see other mods taking ABR up.

Theres more to it than that. But how will that stop other mods from using the system? PoE isn't that great a mod that it would have any effect over how others run other mods.

My own feeling is that mods will be unwilling to become entangled with ABR because the way they handled their dealings with PoE: in the most ****-stirring, confrontational and unreasonable manner possible.

Not to get into an argument but what on earth are you on about PoE or someone working on PoE attempted to use code from the ABR project in there own stats system so ABR cut PoE off from ever using there system.

Mods will use there system simply because its hard to make your own and its the only system likely to stay up if EA try and block others again. they have a massive vBF2 world, a massive PRMM world and a number of others (cant find the list at the moment).

Its a lot more successful than any other alternative rank system, in fact its prity much the only alternative rank system out there.

I'd love to see some convincing proof of this last point.

As I understand it, PoE evaluated ABR in the time they were creating their own statistics system. They later publically announced their statistics system, at which point ABR decided that they must have stolen the code. They didn't offer any proof, but this didn't stop them launching a smear campaign against PoE.

I guess I'm making FH a target for a similar campaign now.

Does anyone have any evidence of this actually happening? I don't think so...

the only thing i can proof is that the POEstats developers had a development server at the ABR public ranked world.
meanwhile, POE denied any involvement with ABR, and stats in general.

ABR didnt exclude ANY modteam from participation, its their own choice.
do you think that EA would add code especially for ABR in the 1.4 when we would discriminate mod teams?

                            - any dispute/opinion on poe, is purely MY personal matter. not ABR.
and yes, KMKZ and Melugo were peeking at ABR technically.

                            Back on topic now.

ABR is available for every mod, and can handle ANY weird scoring thing you build in your mod.
also, ABR remains free of charge, centralized and 100% legal.

we give you the tool to rank your mod, with approval of DICE.
                            - what more do you want?

do note that if POE will not use ABR, some other guy will sign up a world with POE, like with any other mod/tournament.

We provide 'ranked' spaces for your endeavours... thats all we do.

if you want numbers, ranks, unlocks and awards for your BF'thing'.....
ABR is the place to be, nowhere else

                            our doors are open!

Re: ABR and Patch 1.4 Update

Great to see ABR back in business. It will be interesting to see what they devise in the coming months. I know Project Reality was utilizing ABR before... my only issue there was that the server commonly crashed at the end of the round. Other times it had "Connection Problems" for a while but stayed alive.

Can the rank icons and medal/badge/ribbon images be changed?

It would be pretty cool if instead of just handing out random medals and badges for accomplishments people could get "specialty" roles by doing good with certain classes. IE: A good K/D ratio as a sniper gives a little sniper icon or something :P
