Have I got that right, then, lads?
    You have it partially right.

The pump action of a pump shotgun ejects the spent shell and chambers a new one. This has to be done for each round you fire.

A semi-auto shotgun ejects the spent shell and chambers a new one on its own.
However, most still have some sort of pump action for manual operation.

A fully automatic shotgun, like the Auto Assault-12, uses a mechanism similar to assault rifles to fire, eject, and chamber a new round.

Aside from it being incorrect in bf2, it is still my favorite gun in bf2

        Re: Pump action shotgun?

Aside from the fact i think RudenCrude was joking, you can't really call the charging handle on most semi auto shotguns a "pump". It allows manual manipulation of the bolt, the round go the chamber and the mag, but it isn't anywhere as useful as a pump, nor as fast, and in many cases using forces you to release your shooting grip on the gun.

Semi auto shot guns have a serious advantage over pumps, and speed isn't it. A well run pump action is almost as fast, sometimes even faster than a semi. The semi's advantage is it's ability to have the mag topped up without compromising use ability to shoot. The strong hand pulls the stock tight into the shoulder and the other slips a new shell into the tube mag after every shot.
This is as close to Counter Strike's "magic bag of bullets" approach to ammo management. But it only works on tube fed guns, not guns with box mags.

Shame there isn't a secondary fire option on all the pump shots to "slam fire". Which is where the trigger is constantly held down and you pump like hell! I've seen it done....and in one instance the shooter actually "pumped" the gun body (no stock) simultaniously.

the pump is to kock the round into the chamber to fire so no its not semi auto, semi auto's do that for you in easy terms.

says gas operated to get the shell out of the barrel becaue if it dident then you would not be able to shoot

Okay, so if they have semi-auto shotguns now, why would they even BOTHER installing a manual pump feature? Is that not like installing light bulbs in your house that also have the ability to light up as a candle?

Okay I understand what you are saying. The only thing is that on wikipedia it says, "Some, such as the Franchi SPAS-12, and the Benelli M3, are capable of switching between semi-automatic and pump action." I was just wondering if the same goes for the m1187.

D SSO, no. Manual pumps on semi auto guns are very handy. Like i said earlier some low powered rounds won't cycle the action. They simply don't produce enough gas to work the piston. So instead of having to use a charging handle of some sort you can use the pump. Quicker, faster, better. In many cases it also allows you to bypass the magazine and insert a specialty round straight into the chamber.

You pull the pump back and it elects the case in the chamber and you can feed a different type into the chamber. The semi auto will just feed another round from the mag.

Specialty rounds can be slugs, door breaching rounds, beanbag rounds, rubber bullets, Ferrett penetrating teargas rounds and even new tazer rounds!

Noble, not all shotguns can slamfire. Most of the new, meaning made after 1950, can't. Safety issues about dropped weapons.

Repub21, Nah. The 1187 is semi auto only. It has absolutely no pump feature at all. Like i said, IIRC it has a charging handle that looks like an AK's charging handle, to clear jams and originally charge the weapon.

It's a very basic mistake that BF crew made, similar to the USMC using the Army M24 sniper weapon system, instead of the Marine M40.

I see what your saying. You know guys, the m1187 is supposed to be look a bit like the 870. Strange they didn't make it pump.

                      Keh?

They should have made the weapon in the game the Rem 870, the Mossy 590 or the Win 1200 as they are all in the US inventory, and are all pumps.

The 1187 look a lot like the 870, but the forend is fixed and square-er than the 870's. And they've kitted it out with ghost ring sights, the sidesaddle for spare shells and a couple of other things probably.

Yeah your right. They might as well have called it an Remington 870. Besides the forend, it looks practically the same.

No. Go shoot a real weapon.
