Recommended Settings for 7600GT AGP card?

I was wondering if anyone has experience with the 7600GT AGP video card & what settings you would recommend, both for BF2 and possibly the Nvidia Control Panel settings. I just upgraded from a Radeon X700. The game looks much nicer now, but gets extremely laggy (periodically <15fps), even with AA turned to off (all other settings set to high). During heavy fights, the game stalls completely to like 1fps. The less powerful X700 was able to run the game on all medium settings without noticeable lag.
Ideally, I'd like to keep AA on and sacrifice some other settings, thought I thought this card should be able to handle all high settings.

    My system specs:
    XFX GeForce 7600GT 256MB AGP 8x
    Pentium 4C (HT,800mHz FSB, 512k) @ 2600MHz
    ASUS MoBo w/ i875p chipset
    2GB DDR/400 RAM
    Antec 350W PSU (12V @ 17A) (scheduled for replacement)
2x 160GB SATA 150 HDD (defragged & swap file on secondary HDD)

I'd just like to know under what settings the game should run fine, if it still does not, I will try to eliminate other possible bottlenecks. I have a suspicion that the PSU is not powerful enough, which is why I ordered a Corsair 450W PSU w/ 33A on the 12V rail

    Any input on this? Thanks!

    Using this on mine,

    VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 3
    VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 3
    VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 2
    VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 1
    VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 1
    VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 2
    VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 3
    VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 2
    VideoSettings.setResolution 800x600@75Hz - actually 1440x900 via the command line
    VideoSettings.setAntialiasing 2Samples
    VideoSettings.setViewDistanceScale 1
    VideoSettings.setVideoOptionScheme 3

the only change I made in the Nv control panel is to turn on Vsync, without it too much tearing on my lcd. With the above settings I am getting 60-70 FPS on vanilla maps, and 40-50 (dips to 30 or so during an arty strike) on SF maps.

P.S. What drivers are you currently using?

If it weren't for your CPU, all high @ 1280x1024 would be possible, very easily. Get an AMD Athlon or a C2D and overclock either.

Thanks a lot for the input guys! Much appreciated. I need to try find the error somewhere else. As soon as I turn anti aliasing on -even with other settings on medium-, the game becomes a slide show periodically. Even the sound begins to stutter. I am thinking the system is not getting enough juice, since 17A on a single 12 rail is weak. I was thinking my processor is too weak, but that would not result in slide show performance, I was expecting the CPU to bottleneck the GPU around 30fps...

I am using the latest nVidia drivers, which would be 163.71

I may upgrade the CPU to a Prescott P4 3.0 GHz. Have a socket 478 mobo, so the prescott is pretty much the end of the line.

ur psu also looks a bit on the low -end. anyways, i dont think upgrading from 2.6ghz to 3ghz will be that much of an improvement.

turn AA on in the nvidia control panel, and turn it off in the BF2 settings.
you get the same results, with much lower performance loss versus BF2's AA

Thanks. It did give me a few more FPS BUT:

I am thinking more and more the PSU is the culprit. I just tried to engage in a helicopter fight and the computer went crazy, finally crashing to a blue screen, suggesting video card failure. I was almost expecting this. Darn, wish I had chosen expedited shipping on that new PSU

@ ConscriptVirus: Would you mind telling me what settings you play your game at? If the CPU is the bottleneck, then we should be experiencing about the same FPS.

                terrain medium
                geometry high
                effects high
                textures high
                lighting high
                dynamic lighting low
                dynamic shadows medium
                texture filtering high
                2x AA
                view distance 100
                resolution 1280X1024

and i get about 22-40 fps. its rather smooth actually. only in extreme chaos when i start feeling some lag and by extreme, i mean extreme. it handles everything pretty smoothly.

plus yeah the 7600gt should be better than my 6800gt.

btw i use to have a 300watt psu and i would have times when my computer wouldnt boot up properly (monitor wouldnt show anything) and according to BFG tech support, i needed a new psu so i got a 400watt and it works fine now.

Thanks for sharing your specs. Will serve as a great benchmark for my system. You might have saved me from buying a new CPU. I hope once I get my new PSU, I'll be able to enjoy the game again. Maybe even use TV missiles. woohoo.

                    i have a 939 amd 4200x2 @2.2ghz

                    550 watt psu

                    my in game settings are

                    terrain high
                    geometry high
                    effects high

                    texture filtering high

                    view distance 100
                    resolution 1024X768@75hrz

in the nvidia control panel ...
                    image quality highest
                    vsync off
                    aa 2x
                    af (application controlled)

fps in IO maps 99-100 dips to 60 sometimes

                    normal maps 70-100
                    never dipd below 60

the 7600gt is a good card for bf2 but struggles with shadows and dynamic light. turn them off and the card is pretty good.

                    drivers 93.71

oh yeah im using 94.24 drivers from xtreme-g. and i also did a ton of tweaking to my computer. i recommend also doing some general optimizations and make sure u uninstalled and installed ur new card properly and make sure u installed ur drivers properly.

I read somewhere that dynamic light and dynamic shadow look the same on low, medium and high, but performance varies on each. so you guys might wanna turn those on low to see if you get bit more performance

also, like I said before, try turning AA off in bf2, and putting it on in the nvidia control panel. do the same for AF (but since you can't put texture filtering off in bf2, just put it on low)

Personally I find this to be a better BF2 tweak guide,

As for that bf2lag link, it would be OK except that the author likes perpetuating XP tweaks that have long be proven to be worthless,

                            Hi~

                            Hmmm.... problems with 7600GT??

Your pc is better than mine. (The ram, cpu and everything)

I use 7300GT but run everything on high.

Try to download the latest driver.

                            Yours should work fine too.

                            Good Luck~!!!
                            :)
