Sound like a very good idea tbh

      Pros
If there is any little tards annoying you over the voip then walk round the corner so you cant hear them.

      Cons
Depending on the proximity you might find yourself running halfway across a map to get some peace.

It would be a cool feature, but as was said - what looks good on paper tends to fail miserably in game.

Very good, IMO. The pros outweigh the cons.

All that needs to be done is have a few muting settings - by default, you should only hear your squad but there should be checkboxes to allow squad, commander, lonewolves, and the enemy. It's already great hearing "First aid, here!" around the corner but being hidden and hearing all their strategies would be just superb. Of course, it would have to be disabled for spectators for obvious reasons.

You just gave me an idea. Ii is beyond the strech of my intention for this topic but: a microphone you can aim (maybe for the scout), I do not know the english term, but in dutch it is called a "richtmicrofoon", translated "aim microphone". Maybe something for a mod, and not for the sequel, but fun all the same.

And thanks for all the input people. I also mailes EA and Dice about this. Maybe I can refer to this topic.

And I also like to adres this to the mod makers. Can you already implement this in BF2 mods or does it require a new engine?

              Re: BF3: New VOIP feature?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it requires a new engine. It seems like something that would take a lot of tweaking and peeking.

Sounds like a really good idea. Now all you need is political backing and you can challenge the Klingons for interstellar domination.

                Re: BF3: New VOIP feature?

Well if the gameplay of BF3 is anything like BF2 you don't need to talk to random people in your proximity. What I want is to be able to talk to people you are working with (like in your squad). So the way BF2's got it is good enough for me.

When I am talking functionality, I have had situations where I want to address to the driver in my vehicle, the shooter beside me or warn people for a grenade or booby trap. I want to hear the enemy coming and know where they are going.

When I am talking fun, I want to say “Boo!” and knife the guy. Say my last words when I am killed at close range. Threats and bluffs when you got someone pinned down or surrounded. Rub it in with lines like “Did that hurt?”. And overhear random conversations a la Max Payne.
All contributing to a more vibrant gaming environment . Personification of the game characters.

Sounds like a good idea in theory but I think its too easy to be abused. Sure, you could put safeguards in there, but in typical EA-style, they won't be effective.

I have a moron filter, how about a credit-card verification system? I.e. all those who wished to use the feature, that is.

Like we discussed, counter abuse measurements can (technically) be implemented, right?

Taking that in account and assuming it can be build in the engine (made to work), the only questing that seems to remain to me is, is it something we, the community, want? Does it offer extra functionally and fun to the game?

I think its a pretty good idea, even if it was abused i don't think it would be very often. Just need option to mute them.

Sounds like a great idea, but I highly doubt you'll see it realized. I think the only change to BF2's VoIP system will simply be in correlation with this "battalion" idea, pending that information was even correct. You know, further breaking down the chain of command. Something as cool as you mention is a little too much to expect from the developers.

                              Are you challanging the developers?:box:

                              That may work.:)

Well, barely anyone uses a microphone while playing BF2, so what makes you think more people would use one in BF3? What we need is squad leader to squad leader voice communication... But again, that's made useless unless everyone is actually using a microphone...
