You had Bioshock, did you reformat your HD or just uninstall Bioshock? If it's the later Bioshock leaves the security software behind even when you uninstall the game.

I just played for 3 and a bit hours was starting to get a bit bored and was about to quit when bam lock up looping sound. ALT+TAB out give it a minute or two then ALT+TAB back in and it comes up with the msg saying you have lost your connection to the server.

Both of you have X-FIs it seems. Creative cards are notorious for having hardware conflicts, try moving it down a PCI slot or something. According to them, it should never be directly under the gfx card. Common error for people who use the Source engine...

Try setting D3D sound acceleration to the lowest setting using DXDIAG or whatever.
