I don't think so, it's a very good card, and in my own experience it worked pretty damn good. Couldn't discern any performance difference between 2x and 4x AA but obviously the latter was worse.

For me the performance difference between 4x and 8x was reasonably big, yet it made almost no difference to quality. And it might have something to do with the rest of my system aswell.

I said 30 to 60 as for some reason it is either 30, or 60. 30 in built up areas most of the time, and 60 in more open areas. But, I do get lag entering smoke, and sometimes a minute or less of lag as the map loads.

ok now i built my Girlfriend a computer and its almost doing the same thing. at 1280x1024 all max and 4x AA she gets 30-75 ish this is at strike at karkand were this map isnt too graphic extensive and usually i get 5 fps more then other maps.

          Gigiabyte m61sme board
          amd x2 4400 am2,
          2gigs crucial,
          evga 7800gt,
          Thermaltake purepower 500watts

B4 she had her computer she would play bf2 at her home comp which is amd 2700 1 gig ram 6600gt agp and would play at 1280x960 everything high xept for texutres is medium and no AA. and would get better frames then her new machine.

          should a 7800gt drop down to 30s??

Depends. I think BF2 went ****tier in performance since release from patches, it happens to all games. CS original required a third of the system requirements it does now back when it was released (133MHz CPU, 32MB RAM, hardware accelerated 3d video card w/ 2MB RAM).

I think you should clean the background processes and services out, it helps a ****load. Try 3DMark before and after that, if there's a noticeable improvement in score, especially CPU-wise, you may have found your issue.

I'm running a 7800GT, Pentium D, and 2GB RAM. In BF2, I have my resolution at 1440 x 900 and with everything high except lighting low and dynamic shadows + lighting off just because I don't like them. I also put AA 4x. I almost never lag and FPS usually stays very high, I'm not sure about the exact number, but I never notice any lag caused by it.

Your PC shouldn't be having any trouble running BF2 with the settings I'm using, especially with the somewhat lower resolution.

Im pretty sure this is enough cause i ran a 7800gt on a 350 watt 18 amp PSU and worked fine.
That tech guy obviously has no clue, all PSU's that come with cases are under powered and under performers, i recommend getting a named PSU like, OCZ, CoolerMaster, Tagan, Hiper, Corsair.
