Re: ex-clan members poaching players
Ive only been in 2 clans throught my entire playing "career". Since 2004 that is. One was a gaming-community-clan, the other "is" a broherhood of selected few special people who like to play with each other (LOL...). So Ive been in both ends of the spectrum. Dairukas guide is spot on, with a small additional Id like to add-
A clan needs to have a respected leader whom everyone is looking up to. That kind of a clan leader needs to be active, and around. In addition, a core membership that promotes and shows highest qualities of interaction and respect is needed aswell. You got that group of "elites", and your community will do well. Its because people need something to be proud of, and leaders or "elites" are the best thing to be proud of. The gaming community I was in died off because of departure of most of those "elites" and sudden inactivity of the leader. What happened was neverending fights and struggle for power. Eventually, a 400 member community, with more than 50 daily active members, aswell as players, went down in a matter of few months.
The group I talk to, and occasionally play with, right now. Has stuck together for more than a year now. We know each other from June 2005, when BF2 Demo came out, and out ranks have changed little. During that year of "official activity" weve only "accepted" 2 guys. Its a group of tight knit people, and were having fun as fvck.
The difference between the two is that the second group consists of mature people who play for FUN, and theres no struggle between each other because theres a "founder" that everyone is looking up to, and everyone is equal. Respect and fun.
In the future, Id like to run a clan, but a clan starts from a unified enthusiasm towards a game, between people who LOVE the game, and like the guys they play with. Too many people just do it for the tags. Might aswell come up with an imaginary tag and run solo...
Oh, Dairuka. That post has been saved, in case I need guidelines when I form a clan of my own somewhere down the road...
PS. It would be appropriate to post my own experience down aswell.
A clan needs a GOOD SERVER
A clan needs a TEAMSPEAK (or alt.) SERVER
A clan needs a forum/website
Thats the hardware to the software, software has been mentioned in the start of the post.
