I'm not trying to be witty. I'm not trying to be funny. I find all these posts about PB problems annoying. None of the posters even bother to search. None of the posters bother to even look in the thread beforehand. There are, how many, ten or more threads about game problems that relate to PnkBstrA.

The thing works its just you have to update PB manually. I was frustrated as well I kept getting kicked and after being kicked 7 times in a row when trying to connect to a server I decided to try and update to the latest version of PB and the problem was gone.

It works perfectly fine except the community wont like it much because they will have to update something they never knew much about or were told they have to update it.

When I tried to update manually, the HTML file was already there

are you still getting the problems though? Are you sure that the files were the same? try overwriting the old file.

I'm still getting problems, but mine are slightly different compared to yours, and other people's. When I first try to join a server, I get a network connection error. Then when I try again, I get in. My other problem is the lag. I don't have the "handshake failed" messages. I don't even see the pnkbstrA and B in my processes.

When I manually updated punkbuster, I did overwrite the old file. It didn't help at all.

Hmm, last couple of days I keep getting "Your connection to the server has been lost" before loading the map when loading the game from Qtracker. I never had this before.

Up until January this year BF2 worked on a throttled 64/64kbps broadband connection, but now I get kicked for "losing key packets".

My BF1942 gaming days also ended due to punkbuster problems. I wonder if they have a deal with their partners to "retire" off games by screwing them deliberately?

i'm a little pissed. i just built a new system and the game play is worse than my old system. with a ping of 40 and over 100fps i've been getting lag since the new pb files have been installed. i havn't been kicked or anything, just lag.

PS: this is on our clan server and i didn't really get lag any before the update. i was getting lag on our match server with only 10 people in it.

                    1. Start > settings > Control Panel > Network Connections

                    2. Right Click on YOUR network connection (this you will have to figure out for yourself) Left Click on Properties

                    3. Click on the "Advanced" Tab and then Settings.

                    4. Click on the "Exceptions" Tab and then "Add Program"

do you think a windows firewall is going to stop port scanners? ha. if you're that worried about hackers, don't worry. if they really want in, they'll get in. i had similar issues with pb. i just turn the firewall off while i'm playing. turn it back on when i'm done. i'm still working out the bugs, but this seems to work well.

This is why you don't play games with a firewall/antivirus turned on. If you just did a clean boot, this wouldn't of happened

Totally dependant on their skillset, and of course your intelligence. HW-based firewalls, commonly refered to as routers are an excellent counter measure. Also, 3rd party firewalls tend to hook low-level net communication functions such that they can effectively filter packets, connections, incomming and outgoing communication requests.

Also, you must realize the people who have the skill to break through anything arent looking for home computers... Its the children, script kiddie wannabe's that are looking to control your machine. They use some pretty obvious methods that can be stopped with firewalls.

So your argument isn't a very good one.

at least they are updating it, probably to stop the same hacks you all constantly b!tch about. sometimes im amazed the level of expectations you guys have about support for a 2 year old game, then when they do support it you b!tch about that too.
I'll sign on with this. F-ing 15 year olds think they known everything

It proves age =/= intelligence, because PB had to take out a few things when moving to the new services.

There is a reason that certain paid cheat sites advertise games of which the majority use PunkBuster.
