Yup I'm one of the lucky ones. Had loads of people on my server complaining and asking how to fix it though so it's a widespread issue. Thing is, think of the people who don't know about forums and don't know how to manually update PB. Not fair at all on some people.

EA did pay for a service - from Evenbalance. Thats why PunkBuster is in BF2...

This is all because Evenbalance is filled with amataur software engineers who have no clue on how to develop proper solutions.

PB may be crappy at time, but still better than no anti-cheat at all. If it`s so freaking easy to prevent hacking, go do it yourself then.

But yeah, they were paid but do a crappy job at it so they suck the balls lol rofl.

I remember seeing somewhere that PB is a free anti-cheat, I think it was in an e-mail response to somebody asking about quality assurance.

Its not free my friend. EA pay's Evenbalance to deliver the PunkBuster anticheat service. If they didn't pay for it, then Evenbalance would give zero updates for BF2. They do this because it costs a great deal to maintain your own anticheat solution. You can see already why its difficult - you can make your customers increasingly angry by developing a poor solution.

This way we blame Evenbalance and give them a bad reputation, while EA manages to get of scratch free. If you contact EA support they'll give you zero help because they simply dont care anymore.

There are a lot of people trying to boycott PunkBuster enabled games right now because of the problems introduced with the PB Services.

What exactly did they do anyway? must have been one rushed update or something.
The backround program has been there for ages, since I last played Americas Army, just didn`t notice it earlier.

They better roll it the f*ck back.

I sent an email to EA BF2 support addressing this issue. I pretty much said that ever since the new PB update on the 24th, I'm getting lots of lag (that makes it unplayable) and occasional connection errors when connecting to servers for the first time. They asked a few things like "Did you ever have this problem before"? "What trouble-shooting procedures have you done so far to address the issue?" Then they gave steps on how to disable all un-needed background programs. They also requested for a dxdiag.txt file. Then they said "After we receive this file we can continue troubleshooting the issues at hand and hopefully come to a solution."

I've just got my fingers crossed now.

This thing is really starting to piss me off. I try to connect to a server and get kicked PunkbrASta hartbeats stoped beating. SO I try again and get kicked Punkbrasta handshake failure.

I had the same kick as the OP. I manually updated punkbuster and played with no problems for several hours afterwards.

yay for punkbuster doing what its name implements =] busting punks!
My firewall, Panda antivirus + Firewall 2007 wouldnt let me run BF2 untill i allowed its conection by manually allowing it, punkbuster automaticly allowed its self as im guessing its Certified or something by windows.

I also noticed lag and lower FPS lately. Also every once in a while my PC shuts down, but I'm not sure if that has something to do with my hardware. Anyway it only does that while I'm playing bf2.
