Here are 2 comparison shots with AA on at 8x I think, not positive. And I know I don't have the greatest system in the world or anything, just trying to illustrate the difference between no AA and full AA since he said he didn't think it'd make a difference. If you think I'm a show off keep it to yourself. :salute:

The moral of the story?

No matter how good your graphics are, some sucker pays more and gets even better graphics. Yes, I'm showing off. No, I can't run at those settings.

way to many jaggies for my eyes, you've gotta use the AA with a lower resolution like that. also make sure your resolution is set to your displays native resolution, 1024x760 seems like kind of an odd ball number, i never knew there was monitor that had it as native. to set your AA if it isnt sticking from the ingame menu just open the video.con file in your profile under my documents and change the AA line. the line would read like this for 2x

VideoSettings.setAntialiasing 2Samples

you want to make sure you set the AA for the ingame menu, not just forcing it in the videocontrol panel. ive found if you just force it in the control panel and leave it off in game it does not have the desired effect.

much better on the jaggies but also a much lower resolution, is that your screens native, 800x600? if its an lcd you want to stick with its native resolution. just make sure you dont sacrifice too many fps for the 4x, you may need to stick to 2x.

heres what mine looks like for that chopper at 8x. i have two HD2900XT cards in crossfire though and i rarely even play at 8x, just 4x because i can not play if my fps are dipping below 85, it just feels too awkward.

these are all ingame setting to mind you, i usually leave my control panel setting set to application controlled unless im forcing a higher AF or using wide tent AA.

the easiest way to tell on your system is to monitor the fps and adjust the AA level then load a game and repeat as needed. you can use fraps or just hit the console button and type

renderer.drawfps 1

that will display your fps and then you can monitor it yourself as you change the AA level. ive noticed that usualy going from 4x to 8x drops the fps pretty much in half. you may also need to use the fps lock command to break the 99fps barrier.

game.lockfps 500

AA really looks sweet. I even set some settings to medium so i can run with AA. For blades of grass theres no comparison. AA off looks like pieces of cardboard, but with AA on grass it looks pretty real.

BTW power, two 2900s :shock:? cmon dont you have a mortgage to pay or something?

o and btw game.lockfps 0 makes it infinite...

That's bull...

i didn't say i cant, i said it feels awkward and it does feel very awkward after playing twice that for years. i adjust my eye candy to keep a steady 150fps all the time unless its a major battle or arty strike, it makes a huge difference in a one on one showdown, the guy with 150fps is usually always going to kill the guy with 30fps when on foot.

just a suggestion:

Max everything except for dynamic lighting--turn that off; and maybe turn off "lighting" or keep that on low-med.

Dynamic lighting is a big performance hit when turned up to high. With this off you might have more "room" to pump up the AA to 2x or 4x and still get reasonable frames.




To FMJ: Those SS of 8x AA still look jaggy; Does quality degrade when you post a SS on this site? I run full on everything 4X AA with a 7800GTX at a 1200 resolution and I don't get near as many jaggies compared to that pic you posted.

its wide tent adaptive anti aliasing, not just regular AA. the only jaggies you see are on shadows and thats a limitation of the bf2 engine. make sure you click the bar at the top of the picture to show its true size. i put a couple more in that reply.

Well, honestly they don't "suck" but they definitely aren't good. Turn up the anti aliasing up ASAP.
And to those of you who will say "well why don't you post up your own", here are two of my SS's.


Those are on all high w/ anti aliasing at 4x.
