I played a few rounds on v1.0 during a full reinstall about two months ago.
The MiG was completly untouchable, but then again AA missiles were always a bit screwy on that version...

They werent screwy. The most accurate description would be- "they just didnt turn aswell as the jets did". :)

But the characteristics remain. You want to ditch a MiG- go stratorun or multiple hard maneuvers at equalizing altitude. You want to ditch a F35B, just pull a vector roll.

          Re: Mig Tips.

I just wanted to say what I said is relavent to version. 1.4 onward. Also, I think people are underestimating the importance of the F35s responsiveness and roll rate, I will often climb to 800 feet dodging the lock of a mig just by exploiting the slow turn rate he has, especially for a j10, a smart j10 or mig pilot will set themself up with enough distance that they dont have to adjust so much, so yeah, I guess you could say that for every measure that there is a counter measure.

The biggest thing I can say, is two equal pilot up in the air doesnt happen alot, but when it does that's when I find things to get fun. Mig and F35 are two very different fighters. If you fly a mig like a F35 youll die .... fast, and vice versa. F35 is a hit and run fighter, Mig is great at prolonged engagements... while offensive, not defensive. If your in a mig you want to use missles, trying to gun a F35 that exploits his responsiveness and roll rate can be difficult at close gun range. also, at close range missle locks become difficult also, when you have range between you and the enemy jet, you can also set your reticle above your target slightly whill maintaining lock, most people pull up or break right, when he does, you dont even lose lock, another advantage. Now as for the F35, close up using gun on another jet is its bread and butter, those small compensations for the other jets movements is easy to do since your response time is awesome, once he's smoking you pretty much win the battle regardless of what jet your flying, and can spot him easier and can bet he'lll be returning to the airfield for repairs most times.

Now heres where I do use missles with an almost certaintly that they always kill my target, MIGS, I know about the evasion technique with migs hitbox, but out of six missles, at least two always hit, and thats all I need. There is one more thing that everyone needs to pay attention to... PING, PING, PING. If you are flying with a ping of 20 and your enemy is flying with a ping of 60, guess whos going to turn a little sharper, do a little more dammage with guns, and have more accurate missles? the guy with a lower ping has a slight advantage, that being said, try no to fly on servers where you have higher than a 60 or 70 ping if you can help it.

So, all in all with all those factors being well... factored in, between the two jets the mig and the F35 I've found it depends more on flying style more than anything. I like to ambush people with guns, getting a dammage certainty and missles are my plan B so My prefered jet out the two is the F35, also I've mastered getting to 800 feet, holding 800 feet and rocketing around the screen till the tone stops. So, to put this myth to rest, the F35 is not defensless, in fact, it is the only jet with a 100 percent guarantee for missles not to hit. the problem lies in how people fly it. if you like to cruise below 200 feet and not look over your shoulder at least every 5 seconds, your toast. I fly almost always over 200 feet just so I am that much closer to my strato run height of 800 feet, also ground aa has less time to lock onto you, I look behind me when I fly before and after I attack a ground target, rearm/repair, and also at least every 3 to 5 seconds.

The F35 is very able, and powerfull, in a specific role of hit and run tactics, the mig is average in all areas making very versatile, verstatile vs. hit and run is how I think it should be seen. IMHO

            Re: Mig Tips.

Very good post mobb, and i agree with you. Sometimes i find the mig awesome on oman, sometimes i prefer the f-35. It just depends on how i change my playing style.

here is something Argameno said a while back in my old thread:

            3. Altitude makes your jet lose responsiveness and increase speed. the higher you are the more likely the missile will hit you.
            4. Bombers retain their maneuverability better than fighters at high altitude. So they can evade fighters.

MIG: Outstanding turn rate with full rudder and pitch vertical and horizontal. Accurate movements, medium response rate, vulnerable to missiles. Powerful rudder.

Second most missile-vulnerable jet in the game, however it can become completely invincible if you learn how to evade missiles with it. It is an very difficult and tricky tactic and you have to be an expert to pull off. It involves full rudder with a 10% pull on pitch and a mild roll. you have to be looking in rear view to see the missile. And you have to adjust your jet to the path of the missile to make it miss. Another simple tactic is to simply let the missile get somewhat close and then do a full pitch back and suddenly let go of the joystick right exactly when the missile in about to hit you. The missile should suddenly fly away while you are moving perfectly straight. The MIG is a low altitude jet. Keep it low, below 400. Flying higher requires expert skills. The MIG can be the most powerful jet, outdoing the F18, if flown by an expert. But to become this effective you need to be an expert. I fly only the MIG and that's why. IMO it is the most maneuverable and skill-requiring jet to fly, which makes it a very fun jet. It has the perfect balance of vulnerability and skill requirement. I am an expert on the MIG and I basically evade missiles with little to no movement. I haven't seen anyone else do this, yet. It's kind of my trademark :).
I havn't really experimented with these myself. Hope it helps.

              Re: Mig Tips.

I have read through this and most of it is indeed close to my opinion. I find the F35B to be most usefull at heights above 500. On wake for example, I never go under 500 unless I am bombing a target. The reason for this is ofc to get away from the nasty J10s. When I fly the MiG I stay low. Since I also love the bombing with this jet I find myself rarely going over 400-500, on Oman at least. I consider myself a pro, my plane KD keeps rising all the time at a good rate. The reason it is bad is due to me learning jets in the beginning, I guess.

I know, I know, when I say that I was a noob in the beginning you're thinking "ah my god, he surely sucks now too". But I am better than you think... I can't compare myself to you guys because I never met you, but I can asure you I am part of the very good pilots in the world.

And when you do go below 500, enemy spots you and J10s are on your tail and you die :p

No, I usually MG the target, drop my bombs at maybe 250 and then go straight up. I very rarely even get spotted, when I do, I just turn and loop them off.

F35 is a flying death trap due to its hitbox:

The MIG on the other hand can dodge missles easily. I've done it pretty well. Push down hard, Barrell roll, and apply the yaw factor when the missles nearly hit (3D-Twist), and all missles should miss.

Hmm, that's actually what I do with the F-35 and it works occasionally (when done more or less perfectly) against J10 missiles. On mouse and keyboard, mind you. I didn't think it was a common tactic. The method on a mouse is very different but it makes the same odd rolling axis effect.

Seriously, does this mean you twist the rudder back and forth while doing loops/turns?

yes its the yaw turn. the description says when the missiles about to hit, apply the rudder.
