I ,for one can't wait for that day then, but am unsure that day will ever come, yes the technology breakthrough might stop hackers for a little while but it will never stop them altogether as the hackers web sites will someday crack it.

      Re: Idea, Catching Cheaters

Like I said earlier, I never thought EA or whoever, would read this Idea and do it. I never thought that a server operator would spend extra money and do this just to please me or to catch 4 or 5 more cheaters. I just had this Idea running around in my head and had to get it out.

While Im at it I would like to thank everyone for thier input. It was good to hear that Im not the only one who thinks the cheaters are a pain. I have, in the last few months, developed a new, for me, stratagy to deal with the cheaters. I will play the game normally and when I think I have ran across someone playing unfairly I will stop trying to help my team win and go after the ones cheating. I believe it has helped me increase my skill level and it shows the cheaters, if thier paying attention, that a good set of skills can out perform almost any cheat.

Sometimes it takes more than one player alone to get the job done but it can be done. I have also noticed that some others who play on the servers I go to pick up on what I do and copy some of the same things, because they work. A good example is the correct use of cover fire and spotting. These two, when used together can change the out come of most games. They are really very simple to use to. Cover fire only requires that you expect someone to come and kill your team mates, duh. (works well on spawn campers) So you follow them and kill or at least put a shot into the enemy who does this. Spotting only requires you to try and spot then shoot any enemy, ie. armor and aircraft, that you see. It takes the element of surprise away from the enemy.

In the near future I think that cheating will nearly disappear. Simply because you will be able to blow a hole in almost any wall and go get them. That will do away with the wall hacks. Then you will have games with near perfect weapons, more like the real ones thus doing away with aimbots. Being able to see more wont help either because the games will have so large a requirement on your resorces that any more will cause your computer to crash. The devs will add more things to the games that I havent even thought about so anyone cheating, as they do now, will actually be a handicap not an advantage. For example what if every building and wall had a hit box? Wouldnt that make all the aimbots (aimbots shoot at the nearest hit box dont they) shoot at walls and buildings all the time.

I bet that I could write a book if I kept going. I really didnt mean to make such a long post but now you see why I had to get this Idea out of my head. Again thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings. . . . . . . . . .Red

        Re: Idea, Catching Cheaters

is this a good idea? no, i think that the ideas you expressed are silly. don't usually make posts? good, dont give up the day job.
nah im just messing with ya.

i actually think that your method would work. obviously it would require a bit of time for people to study the clips sent in to confirm everything, but other than that it seems pretty fool proof.
i dont really know much about running battle recorder, would this affect the performance of the game as a whole in any way?

and at who mentioned binding only one account to the cd-key, so if it gets banned theyd have to buy another game. i personally think that would suck, considering we had to pay for expansion pack and boosters.
then again, maybe this is all the more to cutting cheating down as the threat of having to pay another 30 odd quid again would put them off cheating in the first place?

          Re: Idea, Catching Cheaters

The best way I found to combat cheaters/hackers is to not play the most popular maps, especially Karkand.

As soon as you go to SF, AF or EF, the chances of finding a cheater drops significantly. Also, playing vehicle servers instead of IO helps too.

Cheaters/Hackers flock to the very places that will reward them the most and piss the most people off.

Red I couldn't say it at the time but the irony of the timing of this thread was rather uncanny because we were in the process of busting another script kiddy where Battlerecorder was an essential tool in the process of proving without a doubt that it was cheating.

I endorce your idea and obviously BR has been a crucial tool in our admin arsenal. But the cost associated with making it a mandatory requirement is more than you realise and again it will cost the server owner, not EA/DICE because name 1 official (EA run, not 3rd party RSP) still in operation? Where are the EA booster pack servers? Non existant that's where. The private server owners are the only ones keeping this game alive. If it was left to EA to provide the server slot numbers needed. The scenario would be either, the number of provided slots is a lot lower than demand or the game would be already dead for that reason.

              Re: Idea, Catching Cheaters

Capt.Hks you are right. After a little more thought maybe the best thing that can happen is one of the Developers on the next battlefield game, if there is one, will see this and give it some thought.

No one has said this yet so I will. Battlefield recorder is a part of BF2 and it runs on some servers. I dont know all the details because Im just a player, a ground pounder at that. I have down loaded several battle recorder files and watched them hopeing to be able to find ways to improve my game play. I did. In the process I spotted more than one person running an aim bot and watched what happened. I was able to learn a couple of ways to limit the advantage that a player might get from one. Everyone should watch at least one battle recorder file it will let you see what the server sees and might help your game play too.

One last unrelated thing.<<R2>>Capt.HKS runs a very good server and if you get a chance you can drop by for a few rounds and see how a server should be ran. They do a very good job. No Im not a clan member there or anything, I just know a good server when Im on one. Thanks again. . . . . . . . .Red
