    Idea, Catching Cheaters

I dont usually make threads. There are to many silly ones already and my Ideas, thoughts might seem silly to most everone else. Here goes anyway.

I would like EA to put a little more effort into catching cheaters and I believe a good first step would be to require all ranked servers to run battlefield recorder and insure that it is working as a requirement to hold the ranked status. Also require that the server make the battle recorder file available for download for at least 24 hours after every round. That way even if I cant get a good screen shot to prove that someone is cheating I can go back and watch the file and even try again or just send the video, video clip to EA. I know they probably wouldnt watch the whole file but with Battlefield recorder running and working "right" you can watch that player during the whole round and maybe use a program like fraps or something to capture a minute or maybe a minute and a half clip to send to them or whoever is the proper parties in charge of this.

I have noticed that servers that run Battlefield Recorder are almost (99.99%) cheater free. I was thinking that this might be the reason that they are not there. I also realize that at first there would be a flood of cheater videos sent in but I also think that it would drop off quickly after a few of the cheaters get reset. So even if you have a great cheat and it always works and punkbuster cant detect it, ever, you still couldnt escape the human eye watching the video with all the action centered on you. By the way you can do this while watching a Battlefield recorder file, if you didnt know.

Well thats my Idea. Sorry the post is so long as I tend to be long winded while trying to include everything. So is this a good Idea? Did I miss something? Is there a better Idea? Thanks for reading my thread. . . . . . . . . .Red

    Re: Idea, Catching Cheaters

Yes very nice grammar and sentence structure, It's influenced me to do the same. for this post.

Before i begin, I want to make sure cheaters include hackers, right?

One thing I disagree with you is the whole subject. One thing I can promise you is that cheaters want attention, they want to stand out of a crowd. You're giving them the attention they want. By reporting them, you're giving the cheaters what they want. Why else would they go out of their way to do something non-competitive like that?

The best way to beat cheaters is just to ignore them.

    -Leave when being kidnapped/harassed
-Leave when someone is suspected to be hacking
    -Kill stat padders
-Do not report any of them, is it worth your time cleaning up someone else's mess?
    -Pertend like nothing happened
-God damn it people, just find a server to be a regular on. These hardly ever have hackers.

And to top it off, what world do you live in? 1.42+ patch? Sorry if I'm the one to break this to ya, It isn't going to happen.

      Re: Idea, Catching Cheaters

I now doubt that EA will give a .... now about cheats and hacks or whatever they are called. It is up to PB if I am right to create anti cheat software but then someone else will bring something new out and spoil the game and such people are cocks anyway.

EA should let people post videos if someone is cheating. How would you catch a aimbot cheat? All you would ever get is glitches and stat padders. But better still just leave the server or report to admin on the forum in which case you will have to join to even post something of this type up to never return again. So personally I just leave the server let them get on with it.

As you said about your proof reading you spelt "everone" wrong only joke but be careful as some people use broken English from other countries and some can not spell called dyslexia. Anyway, good post

To be perfectly honest, i bet cheaters dont care if their caught. I think they enjoy it, knowing that they pissed people off.

I think EA should make a system somewhat like Steam. Where you can only make one account with one cd-key and then being able to change in-game name say once a month to prevent players from using other players names to piss them off. And if caught cheating or stat padding (wich I have yet to understand what that is ) just permanently ban there accounts forcing them to buy the game again. Also a more in-dept anti-cheat system. Look at VAC2, newly-made cheats get detected and added to a global list within hours of playing for the first time. Plus with Steam, you can't crack games unless you decide to play by yourself . Maybe a program of wich your are obligated to have to be able to launch EA games such as Steam would be the best way.

Just my opinion, I just love steam :), it's tight ( I am not saying Steam is cheater free either...)

                Re: Idea, Catching Cheaters

As I said it was just an Idea. I never expected anyone to really do it.

I like to see other people have different Ideas and different points of view and Im not in the habbit of flaming them for it. I thought this would be the least amount of work for EA, Punckbuster, ROC or whoever. Also it does include anyone useing an unfair advantage. If you think its unfair, just turn them in. Thats all. You would have more better proof.

As far as making them famous, I guess it might but everyone who gets thier account reset to zero is kinda famous. I dont think Id want that kind of fame though.

Again, I just had an Idea and wondered what everyone here thought so I posted it to see. Thanks for the input. Neptune too! LOL. . . . . . . . .Red

                    Re: Idea, Catching Cheaters

Not a bad idea Red but who bears the cost? Server owners that's who.

We have run BR from almost day 1 BF2. More and more servers are now running BR which is a good thing. We personally couldn't live without BR. Its essential for admining in my view but is extremely time consuming because of the lack of any rewind function and slow max fast forward speed or any jump ahead in time options.

I've lost count on the number of servers I've either directly setup or helped to setup BR. (don't ask any longer because i'm retired, unless there is a nice donation to entice me :p)

However do you realise what it takes to run BR especially if we take into consideration your minimum 24hr availability requirement? 1st of all you need a good server which costs more than your average (already very expensive because its ranked, per slot shared servers) In other words usually its not possible on your regular shared server that probably 95% of servers are because they are stacked up to the hilt with multiple instances. Then you need FTP space separate from your game server. You need to provide the transfer necessary for all players to download the round.

Then to workout how many BR files you need to store, you need to workout how many rounds might be played in 24hrs. Then workout based on player count/map size these files at the very lowest BR quality of 1 equal anywhere from 7 meg to 14 meg or so in size for a 50 player server, eg like one of ours.

So to be safe you need to store atleast 72 rounds for a 24hr period based on 20 minute round averages. Now you may need to even store 100 just to make sure they are available for 24hrs. Very few servers that have working BR provide anywhere near 100 rounds before they get overwritten.

There is also the extra bandwidth associated with uploading the files to your ftp. People are already struggling to stay within the bandwidth limits with a 24/7 populated 64 player server. To get anymore costs seriously big $$$$.

So whilst it may seem a good idea, the burden of the cost goes to server owners who are already getting screwed big time because of the ranked server crap costs.

Besides, all those servers that have working BR have a niche market already, screw every server having it.

EA to put a little more effort
                      right there:cry:... sadly..

PS: @ Neptune : 99% of the cheaters/hackers or whatever ppl label them as are ppl who are using some downloaded thingy.... they dont want to get caught

                        Re: Idea, Catching Cheaters

There is a easy way to catch glitchers and hackers ,as long as your on their team, even if your are not you could try switching teams.
What i do when i think someone is glitching and they are on the enemy's side is, i will wait till i die, switch teams,un-select a spawn point so none is selected, wait till the ''you will respawn in 15 sec's'' has gone off screen, press enter so you have a clear screen, and keep pressing C till you get to the player you want to watch, and when you get to that player,if he is inside a building,on your screen it will look like your in the building too and you will be able to take the perfect screenies of the glitcher.

                          Good post.

I think it's a good idea, or atleast the start of something bigger and better. Only thing is, EA and most server owners wouldn't care to enforce something like that.
You know how some servers don't have a VOIP because they say the game runs better? You think they'd say that for BR?

Unfortunately, cheaters always find a way. They'd just develop something better. People pay for those hacks these days.
Ive never played an online multiplayer game that was hack/glitch free. Maybe Ive just been playing the wrong games.

And thanks for an easy read. Finally, something with puncuation and grammar.

It's not like we'll be living with hackers forever, there eventually has to be a video game security technology breakthrough that ensures 100% hacker free environments.
