Some gunners don't really have to depend on pilots. Just fly solo

I don't think you can beat him in a chopper match. He's actually good.

Good pilot shouldn't depend on a gunner to take down stationary 50 cal and can kill you with 1-2 rockets. Average pilots like myself prefer to have a gunner. As somebody said, it's not a big deal to be a gunner but to be a good pilot. I've been on both sides of the coin and lately I exclusively play foot soldier, that's why I'm saying that the 50 cal is the chopper's deadliest enemy and I preffer it over the stingers/iglas.

I think what Churr meant to say was that with proper situational awareness, a pilot doesn't get himself into these messy situations in the first place, but more often than not will still have a maneuver or escape plan in case something like that happens. .50 cals depend on the helicopter being in the right angle and height: good pilots know to increase altitude immediately when being gunned like that because it puts an end to the attack and lets you prepare for a counterattack.

        Sig check. :)

Anyway, the starter of this thread wanted to hear some tips on surviving chopper attacks. Comment full with admirations of the good pilots are useless to him.

Well, the experienced pilots who've posted so far have been honest: short of a well timed (whether by coincidence or choice) assault by way of .50, AA and AT or any combination of the three, groundpounders really don't stand that much of a chance.

Hence the constant b*tching about helis and jets being overpowered.

In helicopters case it isn't the fact that they are over-powered because they are just as scary in real life, its the fact that the AA that is supposed to be there isn't. Its a complete ****ing joke, it is pretty much impossible to lock onto the helicopter and even two full missiles cannot kill it and you NEVER are able to hit them with the AA twice before it either runs or turns around and kills you.

If AA turrets were perhaps given duel .50 cal turrets as well than they might be a threat to helicopters. As it is no dice.

I do agree with you on one thing, the pilot should get the credit. Which is why when a helo team kills someone, there is actually 3 points awarded. The pilot gets a driver ability (team) point, and the gunner gets 2 points for the kill. If it were up to me, it would be the other way around. Another thing a good gunner knows, what a good pilot is. There is nothing more appreciated than a good pilot. There are some really good ones out there ...wish there were more.
i got all my heli decorations being gunner of those excellent pilots.
Some of my pilots like me because

i never said: hit it or let's go
say thx as he makes you score and don't forget to give them some credits every once in a while.

i enjoy being attack heli pilot too but most of the time, my gunner would "take" most of our kills. so if i'm in frag mode, i'd rather fly a bomber solo.

agreed! awareness is the #1 factor. the pilot has to realize hes taking on .50cal damage within the first 20% damage done to the chopper. If he is aware he will know the location within seconds, and (with a good chopper team) will line the gunner up to dispose of the pest with a tv shot (if at distance), or take out the target himself. :p

I have to disagree. It actually depends on the map. Sharqi would be one where .50 is really something to watch for because they can be anywhere in the fog.

But I think AA's are way more dangerous than .50cal if used correctly, meaning only locking on when you actually have a chance. Also it helps if you have teammates in nearby AA's. If the chopper has flared for a jet or another AA, chances are you'll at least get a hit.

But .50 cal is just pathetic in more open maps. After realizing you're being shot by a .50 cal, and you know where it is, just kill it; if not climb or get away, locate it and let the gunner TV it.

yeah i noticed that too, i get a lot more kills with the AA than any 50 cal...

the trick i use is point at the chopper, let him flare, look aware & up, than after a few seconds look back and lock on, keeping the flares out of view, fire 2 stingers and down the choppa goes.

Had a couple instances where I took down a couple heli-whores with an assault rifle. Two full clips can manage it if you can get them in. They'll usually be distracted by people running around so grab a spot against a building with some outhang and wait till it pops in sight to take out things of real threats, then unload like a mother. And I'm sure it's mortifying to be taken down Rambo style XD

I have rather good working method against choppers. My record is 18 crews during single round.

I take FAV and a sniper kit with M95. Then I drive the car hidden some where near a flag, say 70-100 meters away and start waiting. Once I'm behind a passing chopper, I jump in the car start shoot it with the MG . Usually they turn and start to look me near the flag. I wait until their backside is facing me again and give my regards again. Many crews goes down during this phase. If they start to run, I still got my M95 to finish them off from the distance and that's the best part in my strategy. Always enjoy seeing that chopper go down by my rifle.

Kill or no kill, change your location and wait for a new prey. Works well if they are at low altitudes, but in high altitudes choppers doesn't create major threat for the ground troops so no worries.

If only my vehicle, while inside, couldn't be spotted by a jets bomb HUD...then it would be perfect.

That is impossible. You can unload all your clips and it probably won't even get them smoking.

Thank god someone has finally talked about using 'small arms fire'.

Ive taken out choppers with guns frm the standard assault gun to the pistol. Even a jackhammer and long range.

If half the people dropped small arms fire on an attacking chopper, it wouldnt hang out for long. Cause chaos.
Of course, you have to back it up (if possable) with AA, .50 cals and some AT's.

Even fast COD's can be dealt with, as long as you really know how to lead in AT rockers. Granted, with such a long lead in, you might die before it hits, but I never said it was easy upaginst a very skilled pliot.

                              Choppers are a good challange.

1 M16 clip barely takes off a bar. Use M95s, a few synchronised shots WILL knock it out of the sky.
