How to gain rank?

I'm a little confused about the ranking in this game and i'm hoping someone can clarify it for me. I have about 110 total hours of game time logged and my rank is gunnery sergeant. Every server i go into has multiple officers including generals.

How did these people get to these ranks?? Are they just putting thousands of hours of game time in or is there a trick to it? Do badges and ribbons give extra points?

I usually score top 3 for my team each round and average about 30-50 global points. I have 12,000 global points right, and at this rate it would take me years to even get to first sergeant. Someone please help because i'm clueless.

you just keep playing lol, go to you BFHQ and see your progress until your next promotion

and yes ppl are acutally putting thousands of hours into it. most of the poeple who are in the top ten have put in over 4000 hours

your points in each round add up and the total amount of points earned determines your rank.

And no, you dont get points from badges and medals

Play 4-5+ hours a day, get 1000+ points a day and you will be general in 7-8 months

This is just an example

Other people have played BF2 since its release 2 years ago

Yup, i played from the start but stopped playing ranked a while ago, its sad to see the game going from pretty fun to I/O medics. (Bring back stunts)

yep i've had my account for over a year, and i had the whole of my last summer holiday when i caught the terrible BF2 virus, so just kept playing and playing

Some of the top ten have 700,000 points. Thats almost 1000 a day since the game came out. I guess their life stopped at BF2, or they are h4x0r$.
