    Plane's armor (help please)

anyone have a picture of a plane showing where they get damaged most?

Im learning to gun planes but find it hard to do it all in one go, unless its a bomber.
I have seen pictures of tanks showing where they are weakest and strongest etc. Is there a picture of a plane with similar?

so far i seen if you shoot into the afterburn of the plane (sorry dno name lol) you get a quickish kill.
against a bomber while turning i shot the top of the plane on the hull and it was an instant kill, but shooting wings seems to do literally no damage.

Anyone wish to enlighten me? Pleaseee :yay:

The weak spots on planes are the engine and the cockpit.

If you have time to aim your guns in any spot other then behind the jet you are a legend.

I'm sure the reason your getting kills slow is because your missing completely. Any pilot that is trying to gun down a plane shouldn't be concerned with where their bullets will land.

If you hit every bullet without missing, you can probably down a jet .85 seconds after firing, no matter what part you shoot.

pay no attention to people that cant fly.

            To OT:
like mentioned above the cockpit is a good place to hit with cannons of any sort, LAV, jet and chopper cannons will often kill the pilot inside this goes for choppers too.

I also thing that most of the time you will be missing the plane full stop as the cannons are the most powerful thing in BF2 apart from bombs.
What you want to do is not to aim for the plane you are following but insted aim in front of it,where its heading (giving it lead),you normally need to aim about 30 cm in front of the plane,if you do this right you will find that you take it down in less than 1 sec , its tricky to do at first but when you get used to it you will find that you don't even need missiles as they tell the enemy plane that you are there, and its very hard to land 2 missiles on a J10 but easy to rip apart with a one sec burst of machine gun fire.

Sometimes you can shoot the pilot out of the cockpit.

Still more satisfying to see the enemy going down as fireball

I've seen a guy entering an enemy jet IN MID-AIR after the pilot bailed.

Yep, you can also survive without a parachute if any vehicle is on your way down :)

Jet has the same armor type all around. Its cockpit however, can be shot through and the pilot can be sniped out. This is a rare thing, but exceptionally humorous.

What you need to understand, is that you are lagging behind the jet in network terms so if youre playing with a ping above 50 ms, you will have to apply some lagshooting. (aiming at the spot where you estimate the jet would be IN 50 milliseconds). I usually add the oppositions ping to the equation aswell.

Then of course, you need to apply the actual leading of the target, since the bullets fly at a limited speed. Its usually illadvised to shoot at a jet that is crossing you or turning in front of you at a very steep angle. But usually aiming for the nosetip or the cockpit makes your rounds hit somewhere near the center of the jet if youre close in distance.

If you are almost parralel to the jet in a turn, aim for the part right in front of the tail fins.

There is no ultimate proper spot where to shoot as you have to compensate for lag and jet movement depending on airspeed and ping. This will come with experience, but you need to pay attention to what youre doing right, and what youre doing wrong. The best method of analysation is to download your rounds battlerecorder file, make sure you remember what ping you had and then check how your shots landed or missed the target.

Thats the thing really, its not always "shoot in front of him". For example, each jet acts differently and there is hitbox screwiness with them all aswell. You can take a Su-34 and shoot it in the middle of the body within a tight turn when youre right at his flightpath and you will hit even with 150 ms ping. You can do it easier with F15 and Su30. Then, you take the MiG and the J10 and you will not achieve the same results (different spots needed for aiming- I use the parts where wing connects to the body, in turns I select the lower one).

There are a sh!tload of different positions, all depending on the situation. But if you make sure you keep them in mind, you will dominate, and its emotionally so much more rewarding :P
