    Battlefield 2 lag in Vista

Hi, I just installed Vista yesterday and then installed the latest nvidia drivers, Battlefield 2, BF2: SF, and then patch 1.41. I am doing horrible in vista. In singleplayer i only get like 30-40 fps mostly staying at 30 with both sli and single gpu. Online is even worse. I updated Punkbuster manually, turned vsync off, defraged, running it as an admin.

Settings are all high, 4xAA, 1680x1050. I didnt force AA throught nvidia CP.

This is crazy. I have no possible idea whats going on and thats why help is required. So weird. Please help.

Good thing I did dual startup and still have xp with me.

P.S. On xp, I never lag in singleplayer (40-60fps) and online (80_if looking away from a fight scene and 40-50 during regular fighting).

    explain a little more

which nvidia drivers did you load, what cards are you running, what is your power supply?

But FYI, Vista performance isn't no where near XP's right now cause it just hasn't got tweaked as for drivers and such yet.

Thank you for you response. My pc specs are in my signature below. I downloaded nvidia 162.22 WHQL. But the performance dip is huge in vista. I didnt expect this much. It is laggy and just unplayable.

Make sure you have the latest main board drivers..if your using nforce then the 15.01's are just recently out.

        Also give the beta's a try 163.11's

The latest sports news headlines across MLB, NBA, NHL, NFL, Tennis, Golf, F1 and Football.

But over all the vista performance hasn't caught up with XP just yet so don't expect exactly the same results..you may wish to lower your in game settings a little.

I have the exact same problem , it runs at about 75FPS in Vista and stutters all the place . XP is fine and runs no less than 95FPS in any map .

This is with the latest Vista Drivers for my 8800GTX and 4gb of DDR2 800Mhz ram with a C2d @ 2.9 Ghz.

I have come to the conclusion Vista hates BF2 .

Have you tried getting rid of the PhysX card? I have ZERO problems with Vista and BF2. 100+ fps basically all the time.

Another thought. Go the the nvidia control panel and make sure that you are not forcing 16x AA or something like that.

The game is unplayable. I wouldnt complain if I was doing in the 40-60's but it dips down to 20-30's like 75% of a round. I havent installed drivers for physx so that is not in the way. I am also not forcing AA through NVidia CP. Its not like I'm doing great in xp either.

Please go to here. Scroll to middle of the page and take a look at those graphs that I put up. You guys might be able to help me out in xp if nothing can be done in vista until I upgrade.....

              Thankyou.

Well you haven't posted back about the other drivers yet...and your powersupply might not be enough to support both those cards in SLI even though you think its the right amps, and I mean amps not watts. See Vista uses more power than XP ever did..mostly sucking up power through the Ram as its always wide open now.

I installed XTreme-G 163.14 Vista 32bit driver from tweaksrus.com and they should little or no improvement. Not enough to make me start jumping on my comp. chair. I checked with nvidia and they confirmed that my psu is enough for 7800 GTX sli. I also disabled sli and ran one card but no improvement.

                  Any suggestions???

The "tweaked" drivers don't do anything, actually. They simply change a few settings you can do yourself.

I've found this problem seems to be related to anti-aliasing, but I'm not too sure on that.

I am not enforcing aa through nvidia cp if thats what you mean.

I tried all low @ 1280x1024 and got 100fps average (200 max, 80 lowest). That just isn't right, my 7600GT could do that.

Wait a second. You have a PhysX card installed in your system that you have not installed drivers for? Either install the drivers or get rid of the card. Thats probably what your problem is. Have you ever tried to use a video card or sound card without installing drivers? It handicaps your system. If it doesn't help, then put it back in. Its only going to take 3 minutes to remove the card.

I dont have any games that use physx technology so why bother putting more crap on my computer such as physx drivers. I will take it out and test it without the card. Thanks for the info.

BTW, how many fps do you get in Battlefield 2???
