What do you use to record in-game?

Ive tried using Gamecam and ZD Soft Game Recorder. Punkbuster kicked me with both. FRAPS wont run on my pc. Anything else i can use?

Battle recorder but not all servers run it.

ive never recorded anything ina bf2 round except with my camera (just mount the camera on a few books, switch to video mode, and then hit record. its not very effective tho

I use Fraps, but unless I set it to the proper frame rate the recordings are laggy.

FRAPS dont seem to work on my pc, it will just open up and close again. I tried contacting the support but they couldnt figure out the problem either so they gave me a refund.

Try a proggie called Camtasia. There is a free trial for it but I don't know if PB will interfere. I wonder what your PC specs are and also your driver versions for vid and mobo. FRAPS should work. If your vid card has a TV out or any kind of output, you can hook it up directly to a camcorder. You just have to minimize your display output resolution to something fairly small...like 800x600 or 1024x768.

Are you trying to make a frag video or a movie type video?

A frag video. Another guy recommended Camtasia or Cam Studio but i also hear neither are meant for game recording and will cause lag.

Try shutting down all unnecessary services and background apps before running FRAPS. Disable your antivirus program but also disconnect from the internet...all we're trying to do is establish if FRAPS can run or not. There may be a conflict....

Also the thread above explains how a demo version of FRAPS will conflict with the Retail version....there are methods in the thread which spell out how to clean your registry and get FRAPS working. Unfortunately, the most drastic is a wipe and reload of Windows but in the end, they do get FRAPS working.

Did you install the free version first before installing the retail version?

I use fraps, and have it recording to a seperate hdd = no lag.

if you had a trial version the full will not work (close down right away) unless you clean your registry of all fraps related files. make sure you buy (or have a torrential rainfall) for the full version and it will work fine. works great but use virtualdub to shrink them, because 15 minutes of video is almost 100 gigabytes (not megs) unshrunk. virtual dub would make that about 140 megs.

Yeah i knew what was causing the problem, and after messing around in the registry a while i got it running a few minutes ago.
But hell, 100gigs for 15 minute video? I dont even have 20gigs of free space.

Anyone know a recorded that will auto-compress the files as it records (like Gamecam) but isnt kicked by punkbuster?

What you could do is get a command-line based program that can compress them on the fly, create a batch file & bind a hotkey to it, then whenever you start running out of space, hit the hotkey and get a compressed clip. It'll probably kill your FPS and then some.

I've never touched FRAPS recording for this very reason, I think you're SOL on this one.

Gamecam records and compress's, with a better speed then FRAPS from what ive seen so far
I dont know any coding so id have no idea how to create a batch file and bind the key.

While this thread is about how to record a video during the game I have a slightly different question to add. I have some Battle Recorder files and want to play them on my DVD player so I can show them to some people at work. I just want to do a straight conversion no editing so that I might get some people at work interested in playing BF2. Im the only one I know who plays and a video might help. What is the easiest way to do this? . . . . . . . . .Red
