A future way to help discourage teamkilling

In the next BF game, how about throwing in the threat of getting DEmoted as well?

Currently, kicks/bans by themselves aren't entirely effective. I suggest that as punishment for Tking, a player should be demoted from their current rank to the next lowest rank. That threat alone might help potential TKers think otherwise, but here are a few other ideas for penalties.
    1. Losing unlocks. Simple enough. Making it a random pair of unlocks would be even better.
    2. Losing medals/badges/ribbons. Making it random as well would also help. ex: "Oh noes!! I lost me precious Air Combat Medal and must start over from scratch!"
    3. Earning a "Mark of Shame" on one's profile. Not gonna find many allies that way. :thatsbad:

To help ensure that this demoting is effective, the tolerance level for # of TKs in a match should be lowered as the player gains higher ranks. This will prevent the new guys or everyone else who makes an honest mistake from getting in trouble right away, and ensuring that experienced players know the risk they take when they TK on purpose.

Obviously we can't stop everyone, but a nice slap on the wrist for those who deserve it would do a little bit of justice on the battlefield...:salute:

I like this idea. It would probably work out pretty well too.

The big problem with your proposal is that it doesn't take into account accidental TKs. For your system to be effective, it would have to have a fairly low number of TKs allowed before the penalties kick in. Most serious players rarely if ever TK, but accidents happen - idiots who don't pay attention to mines, people stepping in front of your vehicle, etc.

For example, last night I was playing on the SF Euro Forces server. The map was Smoke Screen. I was set up in the mounted TOW at one of the flags and was long range "sniping" enemy tanks when they came into view. I targeted an enemy tank very far away, fired, he moved behind a building, two seconds later I see the tank again in the same spot and fire - apparently the bad guy had jumped out and two of my guys had jumped in. I ended up TKing them both b/c the distance was so great that the friendly name tag didn't appear.

I've always said a much better punishment would be a one to two minute respawn after a TK.

BF2 is one of those games where new ideas only bring more trouble, people would force TKs just to see you lose your unlocks and ranks, its a ****ty community, game works the best as it is

            No, pred...
The force teamkillers would get the same thing....
Force teamkillers can't get in a vehicle
Force teamkillers can't hold a weapon
Force teamkillers must polish your shoes.

            *sarcasm*

It's a good idea, but I definitely agree with pred on this one.

Still needs work though, typically i get TK when I shoot down an enemy chopper and it falls on friendlies and such. Absolutely goofy.

Sounds like a good idea as well.
I can see how it would be problematic for accidental TKs as well, especially for commanders with artillery, aviators, and grenades.

EVERYBODY does make mistakes now and then. Ultimately if this system were utilized, some honest, innocent gamers would indeed slip through the cracks and wind up with penalties. But the military in real life has punishments, both for mistakes and otherwise. You made the mistake(s). Now pay the price, and in the future be more careful.

Also, the biggest penalties would be dished out only to those who TRULY deserve them. Maybe an ingame vote to award a certain player a "mark of Shame"...much more powerful than just a kickvote.

but this isnt real life and imagine if u lost ur nice shiny M95 or G36E becuz ur teammates kept driving their jeeps into ur jet. and kick votes never work cuz no one pays attention to them

EA would find a way to f it up make it promote instead of demote for teamkilling, and besides, teamkilling is fun, rofl lol.

how about implement the old tried and tested BF1942 way, its called kickback, you kill someone and you die as well. problem solved.

my best suggestion is to just turn off friendly fire. it doesnt do anyone any good and doesn really make the game anymore fun. ok sure ur going to get a ton of nades, but even on karkand FF on servers, its always raining nades and ive had some rounds where i kept on getting tked by the constant nade throwing.

Re: A future way to help discourage teamkilling

I suggest, instead of permanent unlock loss, just a temporary unlock loss: a punished teamkiller is going to lose a random unlock for the current match.

This way teamkilling on purpose will soon lead to the loss of some important unlocks, and accidental teamkilling will be discouraged as well (sometimes you just don't pay attention, let's say it) but won't lead to such a trouble.

Maybe EA could introduce a TK/playing time ratio that has to be under a certain value. If it goes over it, then you'll lose at the beginning of every match you'll lose a random unlock until the ratio is good again.

I say that server admins should be able to turn off friendly fire for specific weapons: nades, guns, rockets etc., so they can leave FF on for C4, Artillery shells, air bombs, air cannon fire to prevent people from exploiting it (C4 jumping, harmless Allah cars, bombing friendly filled areas to get rid of the enemy..)

Yes and punishing that hard for TKs might not work.. I got 5 TKs by accidentally giving last small arm shot in friendly chopper that was in fire.. :hmm:
