Hi, I want to increase my BF2 performance in Vista. I need your opinion about two components. My specs are in my signature. Should I get one more 1gb ram stick or a 74gb Western Digital Raptor Hard Drive. I cannot make up my mind about which one would benefit me the most. Thankyou for any comments/suggestions.

GeForce 8400 GS
GeForce 8500 GT

Re: Battlefield performance in Vista
Badsubby, I didn't notice this thread when I made mine...but I was having very similar stuttering issues. I believe if you upgrade to 3gb it will fix your problem. I acutally tested it. You can view this thread for details. http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118372
It's because Vista uses alot more of your ram. So you probably only have like 1.25gb available unlike XP where you had maybe 1.6-1.7gb available. Don't quote me on those numbers, I'm kinda guessing...but they should be pretty close.Comment

Re: Battlefield performance in Vista
Actually, I would recommend getting 2 more gigs of ram ...you will notice a huge difference in game play. IMO 2 gigs of ram to run Vista and play BF2 is minimum, at 4 gigs the game plays very smooth, with no stuttering. Judging by the rest of your specs, more ram is what you need.Comment

Re: Battlefield performance in Vista
no, im pretty sure ping doesnt affect frame rate. it just makes your character studder, as in he shifts a few feet here and there, but you wont lose frames from that.
i dont think this is a hardware related problem. try to find a better server thats closer to where you live, or live with it. I get 50+ frames and i studder, but i know its the server because my ping is like 70 (thats high IMO).Comment

Re: Battlefield performance in Vista
Neptune what settings are you using in game? Do you feel extreme lag when it gets too busy such as bombing, artillery or too many players at one flag? I just want this information for comparison. btw, my ping is 30. I live in Connecticut and the server is in Virginia. Thank you pal.Originally posted by Neptuneno, im pretty sure ping doesnt affect frame rate. it just makes your character studder, as in he shifts a few feet here and there, but you wont lose frames from that.
