    Tanks - C4 - Jihad Johnny - RPGs - AT troops - HUH?

I drive tanks (tanker) and if I say so myself, I'm pretty good at it. (Mister stats checker can now check my armor stats then go suck his thumb.) I've read a lot of stuff here concerning methods to take out tanks, and I have to say some of it is pretty dead on, and some of it is unadultered BS. Phew.

Jihad Johnny - We experienced tankers have known about C4 laden vehicles since before the game came out. It's a simple matter of aiming a few yards ahead of the moving vehicle to incinerate it. Good tank drivers can throw a tank in reverse and devestate Johnny and his dreams of glory. You Johnnies out there ought to appreciate what a hoot it is to see your vehicle fly to pieces in this outrageous, C4 boosted explosion as you fly past our windshields. Always good for a laugh. Thanks for that. All tankers with any miles under their treads treat all on-coming vehicles as though Johnny is at the wheel with his thumb on a detonator. Odd, eh? Poor drivers. We can tell the difference between Johnny and a normal driver by the size of the explosion and the altitude the body flies. How's the view up there?

Sticky C4 - This is fun, too. There's only two kinds of people that sneak up close to a tank; engineers bracketing it with AT mines, or spec ops tossing those packs with that detonator again. I think it's hilarious to watch when they realize they can't run as fast as my tank goes in reverse. In fact, they look surprised there's a reverse at all. A foot shot and here goes big bird again, only this one can FLY! Flying with a detonator in his hand? How useful.

AT troops - These guys are pretty funny in their own way, too. However, they are a serious threat to tanks, unlike the above two jokers. Smoke and move. Smoke and move. Their main problem is they only have four shots and not many commanders drop those supply crates fast enough. Jump and shoot. Jump and shoot. Well, luck has its place in this game. AT troops stop tanks more often. I'd rather see Johnny and Spec Ops than drive into a nest of these.

Engineers with AT mines: This is a good way to take out a tank. But, engineers aren't glorious. Damn, one of their weapons is a wrench! That would put off any real killer, eh? Many is the time while I'm waiting for my (that's it "MY") tank to spawn, an enemy tank is in the area. "ENEMY ARMOR! ENEMY ARMOR!" Over and OVER. GEEZ. I run up to it and drop a mine right behind it, then run around to the front and drop one there, too. By the time I get a few yards away, BLOOWEE!! No more tank. WHATTA HERO! Yeah, I know.

And, you have to play while enemy UAV is overhead, and you're getting shelled incessantly, because all your special ops troops are trying to stick C4 to tanks, instead of do their jobs. Oh well. I knew a guy in EOD who used a mortar round for a doorstop. He thought it was disarmed till someone knocked it over one day. Man. Was he embarassed...when he got out of the hospital.

IF YOU LIKE YOUR TANKS supporting you as you take that flag, then you have to support your tank. The only way the above tank destruction methods work is when the tank isn't sufficiently supported by the ground troops. This was true in Rommel's day. It's true today, and it's especially true in this game. Tanks are not independent rolling fortresses with guns that will annihilate any...well, yeah they'll pretty much annihilate anything in this game... BUT, if you want that tank to be there with you adding to your firepower, you HAVE to MUST prevent the enemy ground troops from taking it OUT. It's worth it, and you get points for it.

TANKS SHOULD NEVER CAP FLAGS. They should never be in an enclosed space. Their job is to sit outside the area and fire into it. It is a mobile gun and you can't mobilate in tight places. Tanks have no business sitting still, waiting for a flag to turn. They should roam around the area picking off targets, and watching your backs. They should also be screening you from incoming armor. The way this game has ended up being played isn't at ALL like that. As a result, instead of rolling through the map like a juggernaut, tanks end up being like cops; they're never there when you need them. They're either respawning, or driving a ridiculously long distance to get back into the fight.

    SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL TANK!

The only weapons that should take out a tank with nauseating regularity are jets and helos. But, then, when that happens, the ground troops are sent to the nether regions at the same time, usually. So, it evens out. Boom.

Before the game came out there were OTHER games with similar features, and when the discussion of this game ensued in Battlefield 1942 fan sites, the talk was high with "When I get this game, I'm gonna." And, so what if you don't read the rest. Who are you, the Pope?

            Battlefield Vietnam, Battlefield 1942.
Think, then speak. Jihad jeeping was prevalent in those games too and when sticky C4 was announced it instantly sparked many jihad jeep threads.

Good ATs are the worst, most feared enemy of the armor whore, luckily, I am both :p , sometimes engis and spec ops get the jump on you if you're not paying attention, if they are able to stick a c4 pack or roll a mine under me, I make sure they are caught in the ensuing explosion.

but...ok. not bad "strategies", if you consider e-shooting towards folks who are e-shooting at you a "strategy".

i like good tankers, and sounds like op does a passable job as long as he's in the center of a squadron of engi armor hookers.

I'm both a tanker and a jihad-jeep whore, and it's very easy to counter everything you described. People who drive right up to a tank are stupid. There are times when it utterly baffles them and catches them off guard, but those times are rare (though they should be milked to the highest extent).

You don't see the jihad from the side or the back, and a simple diagonal line (i.e. move from left side of tank to right side of tank) will absolutely kill most tankers' aims, because most can't track something moving diagonally towards them. Makes you want to pitch down further than you can, and by that time, someone has reached their goal of 72 virgins.

Hey, you forgot how easily and quickly a TV missile devastates your tank

You make it sound so easy to take out tank killers me and my clan have perfected the 2 man tank trap where a tank would only have 3 seconds to drop smoke and try and get away.
