I`m having a big lol reading the official QW forums, a thread where BF2 and Quake people are arquing how the game should turn out to be. It has like billion pages.
I`m on the Quake side. This is Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, not Battlefield: Quake Wars.

I'll say. All the BF2 whiners are  about running speed!?!

Someone has to make a BF2 mod for it though. Battlefield: Quake Wars.

Some of you guys have no clue - QW is a BETA ... and some of you have already dismissed it as the finished product
The play-style concept and enemy territory gameplay roots are far superior to BF2 without question

            Re: It's official

I wrote up a short article for the BF2 person who is planning on trying out the beta. This isnt all conclusive, but should give you an idea of what the beta is about, and what is going on for the first few hours of play.
            --------------------------------------------------------------------------

My impressions / intro for noobs:

ETQW is nothing like BF2, in fact the movement is similar to 'quake'. The only thing ETQW and BF2 have in common is; they are both 'FPS' games, that’s about it, except for medics being able to drop health and revive, and 'Field Ops' can drop ammo. ETQW is actually similar to RTCW (Return to Castle Wolfenstien), or even Enemy Territory where you have an invade / defend type of play. One side (Human GDF) has to 'push' forward and complete objectives in a certain time limit or they lose, it’s that simple. The attacking team (GDF) gets about 8 minutes to complete the first objective (which is having an engineer use his wrench to build a anti-shield generator), if they can do that then the strogg are pushed back to defend the next objective, and the invading team's timer gets reset so they can push on for the 2nd and 3rd objectives. Once an objective is completed, it can’t be undone.

            Objectives for Human (GDF):

            1. Engineer class must build anti-shield generator by going up to the objective and using their wrench (actually pliers). If you die while building, the build percentage stays there for 30 seconds.

            2. After the generator is built, the Stroggs will be pushed back into the sewers, and the GDF can advance a bit. The next objective requires the Soldier class to plant explosives on the sewer access, and then arm the explosives to destroy the access doors. Of course, Strogg engineers can use their tools to disarm the explosives.

            3. Once access is gained to the sewers, a 'Covert OPS' class, needs to find the sewer access computer, and use his pda to hack the controls. Once that is done, GDF wins. If the GDF can't complete all the objectives, the Strogg win.

There are also side objectives you can complete that are optional; like building guard towers, destroying enemy radars, repairing assets, or retaking spawn points. You get a few points for doing those, but the main objective is usually 5x more points than those.

Points and death: Every time you kill an enemy, defend, destroy or complete an objective, you get XP (experience points), which go towards unlocks, awards, and ranks. In ETQW you and your team don’t get penalized if you die, so feel free to die as much as you like. The only penalty is you having to wait to respawn, and just like RTCW there are spawn times every 15 seconds team wide, so when you respawn, you'll likely see others spawning around you, because everyone spawns together in 'waves'.

Vehicles: there are lots of vehicles to use in the beta however they feel very clunky and are almost worthless except to use as transport, but some can be decent at times.

Abilities: Besides each class having its main ability (repair / destroy / hack / medic, etc), they also have other abilities available to them. Field ops class can deploy artillery and use its binoculars to mark a target. Engineers can deploy Anti-personnel or vehicle turrets and mines. Medics can call in a supply crate air drop (which just like in BF2 gives you health and ammo). Each class has some type of extra ability they can use.

Fire Teams: ETQW has Fire Teams, which are similar to BF2's squads. You can’t spawn on a squad leader, but as least you can tell where your squad mates are on the map, and what class they are playing. The squad leader can also assign the squad an objective, or use an 'attack here' marker similar to BF2.

With all that said, vist these sites to learn how everything works:

Havent played it yet so i cannot comment on how much better or worse it is than bf2. All i know is that i will have an un-biased opinion towards on it when i do actually get my hands on it.

I didn't like quake wars, the beta any way... The game play sucked. I like BF2's game play better. Quake wars does have a good concept though...

Might just be me though becuase I prefer tactical shooters.

Also I know someone that couldn't even load into the game because it was so buggy...

Have not heard one positive thing about it so far.

The sh*t SS came from someone with a Mark06 score of like 13,000 so it's on all high... lmao

For myself i never had bugs.

I do have to admit, I have enjoyed Quake Wars so far much more than battlefield 2, even though I am not a fan of "future" war games. (Here's my post of the month...)

I'm gonna save my opinion for the demo. So far CoD4 and Frontlines are looking a lot better. But at the moment it's definantly not going to be the Battlefield killer everybody was expecting.

Yeah, I hate the bloody gaming sites, magazines giving games such ridiculous labels, like "BF2 killer". I mean, what the hell, the game is NOTHING like Battlefield, never was and never will.
Where do they take such ridiculous lines.

I recommend Unreal Tournament 3, not just cause of the game, but the engine itself. The mods will be unbelievable for that game.
