As I'm waiting to get off of hold on customer support, I figured I'd write up a quick thread on why I believe many of us like stats.
Now, before I start I'd like to say that there is a difference between a person who cares about stats and a "stat-whore".
I am the type of person who sets goals and works to achieve them. In Battlefield, I like knowing how many kills : deaths I have, and my accuracy. I like these stats because it lets me know if I'm improving, and possibly what I need to improve on.
However, for a "stat-whore", these people play the game solely for bragging rights. They play in a fashion where they want the most points in the fastest way, with the best kill to death ratio.
Many of us on TotalBattlefield2, I believe, appreciate the stat system to some extent because it allows us to look back at how we have played, and improve. A negative aspect to stats is the fact that it can ruin gameplay for certain people as a portion of the population does not play for "fun" but rather for "stats".
So, my main point is that stats are there to help us, and so many of us like it for that aspect.
So, while this stat outage will result in a decline in server population and activity, I think it will open up the game to more possibilities as people try new things without the fear or screwing up their stats.
Do you agree?
