why does it take flippin 5 mins to log in?

2142 takes 30 secs top yet bf2 always insists on taking a flippin age to log into a chracter and when it does it loads up some stupid map that nobody is even playing.

what the hell is the point? and why does it take so long?

Delete your bf2 cache, bin your favourites, update punkbuster (evenbalance.com) and you could always drop your graphics a bit too.

As was said its your favourites, some maybe dead. They are usually in red. Clear them all out and you'll log in pretty quick.

Sounds like you are using the playnow shortcut? Delete it!

        Yep.

Delete favourites - all the red ones. And the high-pinged ones too.

Is there anyway to stop BF2 automatically adding servers that you have played on to your favourites list?

Remove server favorites in; Battlefield2 > Profiles > 0001 (or whatever number you want) > General.

Buying extra RAM memory helps out a lot to btw. I moved from 1Gb > 3Gb and loading times have dropped significantly.

Make the file read-only. It also serves as a way to auto-exec console commands like that pesky FPS display.

              renderer.drawfps 1
              game.lockfps 999

              ^

I added those lines to test, it works ingame.

  no Dual channel, unless 2 sticks 512 :shakehead: , and if you wanted to you would not be able to get identical ram, shoulda bought 4 gigs, but then you would have to to run vista 2 gigs i find is more than enough for XP on anything, provided you have a C2d

how does graphics and favorites affect the log in time?

im not on about the loading of the maps thats really quick...

my graphics are on medium with textures and distance maxed i have 2gb of ram and 256 ati graphics card so i think its coping well plus it can play PR so i dont think tis my graphics.

i will delete the files though anyway.

Ok forget about touching your graphic settings then :)
When you login, any server in your favourites folder is contacted to check ping etc, this takes time :)

Same thing happened to me. My laptop only had 1g ram, and of course the video card's memory is system shared. I just upgraded to 2g last night. My frame rate soared and load time dropped a ton.

I like all you people that think they have anything on me in the Tech department, but Ill explain it again.
                          I had 2x512Mb DDR2 PC2-400 (533Mhz) Kingston Dual Channel (Kit). I bought an additional 2Gb Kit of 2x1Gb DDR2 PC2-400 (533Mhz) Kingston Dual Channel.

Setup works in Dual Channel and it cuts down in loading time a lot. Seeing as I am working with AutoCAD and other related software its been a big help. Plus like I already mentioned it cuts down on BF2 loading times as well.

Btw you can run 4Gb in XP but it will only use 3.5Gb if I remember correctly. On top of that XP will only show 3Gb used. But this is what I recall from memory, I dont have any links here atm to back it up.

When BF2 is loading your profile/account it checks all the servers in your favorites list. If a server no longer exists it will appear red, but BF2 will check all over the place first to find it. Takes time. Hence the advise to clear out your server list on a regular basis.
