its hella annoying, that what it is. it's for people who don't want to actually fight. often times characterized by 4 snipers spamming claymores and grenades off the building, while one person re-supplies and another revives. but hey, who plays FF off anyways?

Why are you being sarcastic? I'd agree with that, so what's the point of posting this other than to mock?

I do. I play FF=off because I like in your face infantry fighting.(ie capping flags like a man on foot) On vehicle servers with FF on I get tked left and right from jets, choppers, arty, tanks etc. On IO FF on servers it is nades and claymores that team kill me constantly. So I play FF off IO servers so I can get in the face of the enemy and do my thing without teammates killing me all round.

FF off might have not been the #1 gameplay mode they've tweaked the game for, but ability to turn ff on and off clearly is intentional, there's a switch in settings for that.. so ff off isn't exploit

As for c4 jumping, labeling it exploit means that you know what the devs where thinking, or intended.. unless you're one of them, you're just assuming. Sure, I'm assuming as well, but here is some reasons why I think C4 jumping is intended :

            - It's staple in whole first person shooter genre. Once you turn ff off, you can launch yourself and teammates. Has been in since quake, so it's pretty farfetched that devs just "didn't think of it".

            - There's been several patches, and none ever addressed the issue, even though it's been talked about a lot. There's been several attempts at removing other actual exploits.

            - devs even fixed places that you could get up with c4 launching (few buildings that you could clip into via otherwise unreachable roofs). They didn't touch the ability to get up there, rather spent more time on finding and fixing the spots, than removing launching.

            - they never, ever even said that it's a bug or exploit

To the OP: Well, to me, the whole concept of FF-off is an exploit, so why get hung up one just one detail? :p On the other hand, I've never had the pleasure of playing on a FF-off server, so I probably don't know what I'm talking about.

You need to learn how to read. Never did I say FF-off was an exploit. Though in a sense, the server owners are exploiting the ability to turn off FF in order to have an easier game, therefore further throwing off the stat system.

Server settings are available for all sorts of reasons, it doesn't mean that EA intended for server owners to screw around with them. Just like Low-Grav, it could be a server setting, yet the developer had no intent to have the game play like that.

I'm not assuming at all. I'm putting forth an educated opinion based on years and years of pub and competitive online gaming. EA put out a 'realistic modern-day warfare FPS'. Just because BF2 degraded into a UT2K4, deathmatch-with-modern-weaponry game, means absolutely nothing to the topic at hand.

Like the rock glitch on Jalalabad, it's an 'exploit'ative tactic using a map design bug to the players benefit (He can sit inside the rock and see and shoot out, but noone can see or shoot him).

That's stupid. This game isn't Quake. Although all the special moves from Doom to QWTF to TFC and future games will always be exploits of the game engine, which only become mainstream because everyone is/can do it eventually. Some of these exploits are gamebreaking (dolphin-diving, bunnyhopping) and must be removed, others are not worth fretting about.

If you know anything about programming at all, and creating game engine source code, if you change one thing, usually other things in the game are changed as well. You can't just go into the game and change the physics rules and not have it affect something else. Sometimes it's just better to move on to developing other games then fiddling with things that came up in gameplay that was never intended.

Nah they didn't. Investigative players found out a way to do it all, like they always do. I doubt EA would spend time on such stupid stuff, when they didn't even patch important gameplay elements.

I started with "ff off is not exploit" because ppl have stated that it is. And well, you just did too, "in a sense".

Server settings are available for all sorts of reasons, it doesn't mean that EA intended for server owners to screw around with them. Just like Low-Grav, it could be a server setting, yet the developer had no intent to have the game play like that.
Look, exploiting is taking advantage of a bug or unintended feature to ones advantage. Feature is not a bug or unintended if devs spent time and money implementing it. There is a goddamned checkbox for FF when you start a server.

Also, yes, I agree that FF on is the mode that they designed the game around. I think it's just plain better and balanced. It still doesn't make FF off unintended, or wrong.

I'm not assuming at all. I'm putting forth an educated opinion based on years and years of pub and competitive online gaming. EA put out a 'realistic modern-day warfare FPS'. EA has nothing to do with the devs intention. It's just a publisher, and "realistic modern-day warfare FPS" (I never found "realistic" word in EA site anyway) is more of a sales pitch if anything. The vision of game and direction it'll take is up to devs completely, and what is exploit and what is not, is based on whether or not devs intended it to happen. Therefore, what was fixed and what not (and what rules are enforced), is a big clue at what devs intention of games direction is.

And BF2 didn't "degrade" into a UT-like game. It was like that, when it was released. Besides, there's nothing bad about UT.

Like the rock glitch on Jalalabad, it's an 'exploit'ative tactic using a map design bug to the players benefit (He can sit inside the rock and see and shoot out, but noone can see or shoot him).
Difference with C4 jumping, is that glitching into world geometry is a bug, and unintended. There have been several attempts to fix such bugs.

That's stupid. This game isn't Quake. Although all the special moves from Doom to QWTF to TFC and future games will always be exploits of the game engine, which only become mainstream because everyone is/can do it eventually. I said launching is a staple in fps:s since Quake, which means that if devs ever played one first person shooter, they'd realize what ff off + explosives cause. BF2 is a first person shooter, as is Quake. If they ever paid attention to first person shooters in general, they know about launching. Doesn't matter how much you hate Quake, but BF2 shares lots of design elements with it, because they're both in same genre.

Well, it didn't stop them from releasing patches up to 1.41 ?

Here's a way to fix C4 jumping without any code change at all : Enforce FF on on servers. Did that ever happen ?

Nah they didn't. Investigative players found out a way to do it all, like they always do. I doubt EA would spend time on such stupid stuff, when they didn't even patch important gameplay elements.
1.3 changelog : "- Fixed a bug on Strike at Karkand where players were able to get inside a building by Train Accident when FF is turned off"

ff off just sucks, servers seem to lag more, i.e nades don't explode....as stated above it's supposed to be left on and if u need a height advantage to kill, then get some skills.

In a nutshell, you're in the camp of 'if they didn't patch it out, they intended it', and I'm in the camp 'just because it's in the game, doesn't mean it was intended. It's a bug/glitch players will exploit if they can'.

This is the same argument I have with bunnyhoppers in TFC. I call it a game-breaking exploit, they call it a 'skill', and since it wasn't patched out,it was intended...

no way is it a cheat or exploit. in real life soldier can go in buildings and climb to the roof, or use a rope to get up there. this is just BF2s version of getting on buildings. i like to put all my c4's on my commander if hes doing a ****ttttty job. then everyone laughs at him.
