i had a chopper land (channel 3 news coptor) at my elementery school

dont you guys ever go to air shows?i go to the one in miramar down in san diego,its a blast see every fighter and bomber there is pretty much9including stealth bombers),you can even go into the cockpits of a few,ive been in a f18 f-14 and a mig -29 cockpit,quite fun!

I'm jealous now :P Would love to go to one!

I've had the oppurtunity to check out a lot of rare aircraft up close and personal, and even share some close airspace with some but I'll never forget the day I went down to the airport for a routine and flight and bam! There sat a B-17, a B-24 and another WW2 bomber. I was like ummm...ok.

Turns out they do a show that tours all over the 48 contiguous states. They allowed civilians to check out the aircraft for a small fee. On my way down the main ramp towards the hangars, I had to pass by the planes. I stopped and glanced over and one of the pilots gave me a brief walk-around. I was amazed at the size of the tires for the landing gear. They were about 5 feet, and the struts were just mind boggling. They were packing things up so I made my way to the hangar. After a thorough pre-flight of the bird, we started her up and began patternwork. After a few patterns, we started practicing quick stops out in the grass along side the active. The bombers started up. They were so loud you could hear them through the headsets and the noise of the chopper itself. It was muffled with the sound drown on though. Can't beat Bose. But anyways, they radioed in for a taxi down to the end of the runway. We stayed in the pattern. When all 3 were ready and the radio call came in for departure, we took the bird back down to the grass and hovered. It was incredible watching these 60+ year old air craft thunder by. I didn't think the B-17 would make it off the runway. Which is 4,350ft. It finally got up just before it ended. After the last bomber passed by, the B-24 Liberator, we immediatly departed the grass and followed them for a while. We broke off after a few miles and watched them dissappear into the sunset. I can't express the feeling of flying with such awesome pieces of machinery. Pieces of machinery that flew combat missions in WW2 and still fly to this day!!

I've seen plenty of military aircraft, airships and other exotic and classic aircraft, and this was by far the coolest thing Ive ever seen/done.I thought watching Cobras blow stuff up at an airshow was cool...I was wrong.

And yes, I know not everyone likes WW2 era aircraft...so if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it. Just my 2cents saying as everyone's contributed their coolest airborne sights.

I was on the beach in Flordia recently when 3 chinook's flew by really low. it was a pretty awesome sight.

i asked my dad if i could have one for my birthday lol.
they look awsome:)
