BF2 is not a good in-door game. Maybe a complete rewrite of the engine might make it as such - the freedom of movement you get isn't as restricted as other games *cough* CS *cough* so it allows for more tactics.

    What ruins this?

    A) Insane lag

    B) Cone of fire

    C) ****ty hit registration

Um actually im piloting which takes skill, put a private in the MEC chopper on gator and see what happens. What would you have rather me done as the pilot? We were killing all the people up top so others could get on the ship, but it didnt happen. We kept the enemy chopper down so my team could get on the ship. didnt help.

But look how many people are on the server. With so little, it should have been easy to sweep the deck clear...in the end, your piloting "did not" save the day. So your skills seem null here. Bad example.

Can you say TV Station baserape with the MEC Attack Chopper?
Yea thats why I make it priority to go create pure hell at the MEC helo pad until I either steal it or just keep it grounded the whole round.

This is why you don't see many indoor environments. I'm not sure if it is rookie coders like my bud Death Jester says. I guess this is why in a fast DM type of game, we don't see many outside environments. The BF series is what has defined the open, big, outdoors types of maps we all have spent countless hours on. I wish there was a perfect balance of the two. A map where you had to use grappling hooks inside to get to a certain flag of a skyscraper or something would be cool. Vertical as well as horizontal. Too many statics with indoor parts on large scale servers (64 man) = lag!

What if the server is lame, and has a, "No Attacking Uncaps" rule?

Then you're essentially forced to take it up the tailpipe for the entire round, or until you come to your senses and leave.

No, then I'll momentarily be kicked. If someone thinks trying to keep the MEC helo grounded or out of commission on that map isn't justified then they're crazy. That helo alone on that specific map empowers the MEC team to dominate the whole round if the pilot and gunner know what they're doing.

This whole Uncap base rule is illogical and is about the only rule in this game I refuse to bow down to. The people who play this game have no idea of what a real base rape is. Back when I use to play BHD, during a baserape you'd have 20+ Motherfuqqers right in your spawn area with M240s, M60s, Car15s, AT4s, w/e smoking your azz before you had a chance to bring up your site. And in that game guns didn't overheat. I can't imagine the whining that would go on if this game catered to base rapes like that. And not once in that game did I ever come across a server or nazi admins trying to enforce some BS rule like "no attacking uncaps."

I have been meaning to put my $.02 into this one, as Sharqi is my bread&butter map. But if I am unfortunate enough to have to play USMC on Sharqi (I really love my AK101), then the first thing I do is spawn in at the construction and grab the parked Humvee sitting there. I drive it down to the pier and wait for that Havok to cross over the water and hold my fire. Often the gunner will not notice, they kinda blend in right there. Then I open up. If I am a SL, and I have a good squad that keeps joining my squad every round, I tell them what I am doing at the end of the round, where I am spawning and what I am going to do for the first 5 minutes of the round (defend the Hotel). I hate that flag point when I am MEC, but as the USMC, having a squad park a the Alley Way and the Hotel can change the complete tide of the game if they hold those spots for just a little longer.

But I regress..if I have a squad, I tell them to get a couple jeeps and bring down that Havok as it crosses. Three jeeps lined up there is very important. If you give the Cobra just a few minutes head start in the game, it can keep the T-90 and APC from racing around. It can help clean out all the attackers racing to the City Entrance, TV station, or to the Alley Way. But if that Cobra gets grounded, MEC get a good advantage till they can take the TV station away from the USMC.

It is tough for the USMC and it takes at least one intelligent squad to keep it even. If there is a second aggressive squad, the MEC have a nice challenge.

Good point Rocket, Sharqi could easily be dominated despite by the USMC despite the advantage the MEC has because of the Helo issue. But that would take organization, communication and sense. 3 elements that are very rare in a BF2 server, especially in residence of each other.

If you are a good pilot you could fly into the hanger bay fore and cap that flag.

Its not a bad map- just mostly run on bad servers.

Logically, it'd be just as easy if one good squad leader took the F-35B, flew to the Airbase Flag on Wake Island 2007, and have his squad spawn on him to cap it within 30 seconds to gain a sizable advantage over the PLA. That would effectively ground all J-10's since they can't repair, right? It's a lot harder to do than it sounds, and it requires a very closely knit squad to work.

Even if you do manage to pull this spectacular tactic off on a regular basis, and manage to actually keep the flag afterwords, that doesn't make the stage any less imbalanced in the PLA's favor.

Now look at Sharqi and your tactic of holding the Hotel, and downing or delaying any poor MEC Helicopter Duo's before they can reach the TV Station to TV-missle the Helicopter, and splash damage rape the other dozen morons who're all crying, "MINE MINE MINE!" around the helipad...

What happens if your squad fails to hold the flag? What happens if your helicopter duo sucks and ignores the MEC Helicopter, Tank and APC (Very common)? What happens if the MEC has a good helicopter duo (Also very common)?

You'll get raped. Generally, you'll lose every flag except for one, and you'll be consistantly spawn raped by the MEC helicopter's insane splash damage. Even if you don't lose every flag, you'll still be faced with a painstaking uphill battle against 3 uncappables which will inevitably require you to hold almost every flag to ticket bleed the MEC. If you lose two flags, then you're tied. :dead:

I used to play the USMC on Sharqi for the insane challenge affiliated with it, just like some people play USMC on Wake Island 2007; however I've been known to bail off a server the moment an elite-helicopter duo jumps in and starts plowing the morons on the TV-station, and thus through our Tickets, making it impossible for us to win... even if the MEC is being ticket bled. I also bail out when I notice everybody team-hop to the MEC side over and over again, leaving my team with 10 newbies, and me... Up against 20 people on the MEC side.

I'd be a lot happier if they'd just remove the North Uncappable that MEC gets on the 64 playered map.

i do not like Iron Gator. but thats because of the confusing map design inside the carrier.

and easiely possible spawnkilling on deck.
