Re: BF2 Won't Launch - White Splash Screen then the game crashes.

I'm also have the same problem. I had been running BF2 fine for 2 years or so. I just did a format HDD, and re-installed BF2. I patched the game fine and played it once. I quit the game after an hour or so, and tried to play again the next day. However, wow when I try to run BF2 I get the splash screen/logo displaying, but the game will not start. I check the task manager, and no bf2 related processes have started.

I tried re-installing the game, and rebooting several times but can no longer get it to start at all.

As someone mentioned above, I believe it has something to do with the DVD/CD-ROM drive. I can read the BF2 DVD fine in explorer, and it autoruns okay, however after trying to run the program it doesn't appear that the DVD drive is being accessed (no lights blinking or spinning noises) (And for some reason my Drive wont read CDs at all anymore, only DVDs). I also tried playing it using a mini-disk rip with Daemon tools, but still couldn't get it to run.

    Anyone got any ideas?

Edit- Out of curiosity Randy, did you save your config/profile files (from MyDocuments) from before your format and then re-apply them to the current install?. I did this, so I'm just wondering if it may have caused the issue?

Edit 2- Just FYI, I have now fixed my issues by doing the following:
    1. Delete the MyDocuments/Battlefield 2 folder. Then run the game, and sign in again to create a new profile folder in the same place.
    2. Re-installed the Latest X-fi drivers (I already had the latest, but installing them again seemed to do the trick), also if you are running an X-Fi, right click on the X-Fi's sound manager icon in the toolbar, then to the Sound device selection menu, and make sure it is set to 'SB XFI 00' or something similiar, not the default Windows setting.

I did these two things and now the game runs perfectly again (you will have to re-bind your keys/video settings again after step 1).

Re: BF2 Won't Launch - White Splash Screen then the game crashes.

      Meowcat,

At one point, I completely unplugged my CD-ROM drive and ran a BF2 Mini Image on Daemon Tools and the same problems existed; so I believe I fully ruled out the problems being directly related to a CD-ROM drive.

Yes, I saved my entire "Battlefield 2" folder in \My Documents before I formatted. When I reinstalled BF2, I tried to store my profile.. but there was no change. I tried many, many times to reinstall BF2 and fully delete the profiles and create new fresh ones, but there was no change in this.

That's great that you fixed your problem; unfortunately, I have an Audigy 2 ZS, not an X-FI. However, since this fixed your problem, I'm going to uninstall and reinstall my sound drivers and see if there is any change. Now I'm curious if my problem is directly related to my sound drivers, too. If the driver reinstall doesn't change anything, I think I'll go ahead and unplug my Audigy 2 ZS and enable the Onboard Sound to confirm if it's sound related.

One thing I'd like to say, though, is that I have a high success rate launching from D:\Autorun.exe. Whereas it takes me about 10-15 tries via my BF2 Shortcut, if I run D:\Autorun.exe and click "Start BF2", sometimes it will start on the first try but usually never takes longer than 5 tries.

I'll try the above and I'll report back in with my results..

      Thanks for the reply!

I have the solution Re: BF2 Won't Launch - White Splash Screen then the game crashes.

HEy man, i have had the same problem and was about to toss my Bf2 cd out the window. I have the solution, you need to mess with your audio rendering on the options menu. Some kind of combination of switching to hardware render and switching back solved my problem and restarting. let me know if it works

I'm having the same problems. I tried to play BF2 on the new lap top and it does the flashing black and white, solid black, then back to desk top. I have no idea how to fix it. Any advice on things to try?
