cutting throtle in a jet, yes or no??

ok I see this all the time, people slow down in a jet to take out the chopper for example, I see high ranked people doing this, generals too

what do you think of this???

is it a good strategy or not??

if I can take out a chopper in 1-2 passes with mouse and keyboard at full speed why cant a guy who spend a few thousand hours playing this game do it too

I even use afterburners most of the time to go faster

this is my opinion on this

I think its lame, I've never done it and I will never do it coz I think its low, people who do this piss me of and I tell them they are noobs right after I see them do it

I mean they basicly hover by ur chopper in their jet, the worst thing of all is that they fail to kill you most of the time(its a good thing for me :p but for some reson it pisses me of)

damn I thought I sucked in a jet but after seeing this more and more I consider my self very good, pfft bleep that, I dont even use a joystick

I might not be able to dodge well but I take that chopper out in one pass most of the time and I can say Im pretty good with the cannon, ever armored vehicles are easy targets when u master that canon

but anyways what do you think about this??

oh btw just looked up the stats of a guy that was doing it today

hes a 3 star general and these are his aviator stats

If everything else is down (jets) then go to town. I usually fly up and point directly down at a flag and spray the **** out of it in freefall.


In a real game, doing that is death though. It's easy enough to cannon anything that moves, you don't need to slow down at all. One or 2 windscreen hits to a heli usually rips it to pieces.


Tanks need around 100 rounds to the weakest armour to down them, I think. Maybe 180.

its the ones that slow down that nearly always ram you. if theyre a nub they will tend to slow down and still likely not get any cannon hits on your chopper.
fire a tv missile at them, you can get them most times.

as for you or i cutting the throttle, i rarely do it as your an easy target.

NO DON't SLOW DOWN!

It's the worst tactic.

If you aim at heli glass it takes like 11 bullets and it's down!

And your flares don't work when you slow down.

I stay out of planes. I tend to get shot down and I haven't played single player to get comfortable in one.

Slowing down to take out an attack chopper is a bad idea, since you have far less manueverability. If the chopper spins right into you, you won't be able to bounce off of it. Thus you'll crash, and the moron helicopter pilot will cry that you rammed him on purpose.

Of course, cutting the throttle in any plane except the F-18 is a horrific idea under any circumstance. Missles will be guaranteed to hit you.

I seem to giggle in delight like a school-girl when I see somebody in a J-10 cut their throttle while I'm flying too close to them. They're probably hoping I'd fly right past them.

Of course, I notice this almost instantaneously when their turning isn't as sharp. So, Instead of flying right past them, I switch to missle lock mode, open up a burst with my cannon, and dumbfire a pair of missles up his tailpipe.

I have yet to see the missles miss.

Slowing down in a jet will make you beeing an easier target. Good pilots can easily take out choppers in few seconds with the mg , by hitting the chopper cockpit/engine. A fast fly-by and hitting the chopper perfectly = chopper down & 4 points

BUT keep the HUD in BOMB-MODE.

I always go like 700-900 Alt (Depends on Jet) And go back down to kill the chopper. I like divebombing them :laugh:

I have to slow down, because

A) Im **** with cannons
B) I play with 150 ms ping, and its awful to get the chopper down in 1 pass without cutting throttle

Granted, I dont slow down to 300, but to about 600- sure, if the situation calls for it. I have never been a stable flyer, that means my plane is very unbalanced and twitchy- thats just my style. Theres only room for accurate cannon use when in jets dogfight. A great chopper pilot will make me use the missiles though.

So, dont call them all newbies. We all have our reasons for doing this.

Don't slow down.. Chris has to I guess for ping issues.. but I know you get good pings.


The faster you are going = the BETTER

Why? Because you are more maneuverable and you can react to the choppers different movements quicker.



If you spot a chopper, do this (while in bomb mode the whole time):

Look at where the chopper is going.. Now, turn around, and position yourself so you are coming at his 4:00-5:00/7:00-8:00. Now you need to make your bullets, hit his cockpit. So you aim slightly ahead of him, and he will actually run into your bullets. Keep a constant stream of bullets on his cockpit glass. If you do it right, he will be dead in (literally) 2-3 seconds, and you can possibly shoot him right out of the cockpit which is always funny.. lol


Basically, just learn the physics of the cannons, like the travel time, how far you will have to lead.. etc.. But your goal is, hit that choppers cockpit and try not to miss even one bullet, because you want the element of surprise. You need to kill him on the first pass, or it will be tough if you try to do it in 2 if it is a decent pilot.. Well not really if you are good with the cannons, but still.. Nothing pisses off a chopper crew more than dying in a couple seconds from cannon fire they didn't even hear or see coming.
