    ^^Very sophisticated post

I totally agree with Leeham. BF2 is a great game, but it has it's bug.
About the support: EA is a game developer and not a service provider.
All these patches the developed have taken time and cost money (EA's money btw). I read in an interview with some from Dice that one patch costs about 300.000 $. Don't have a proof though. It might not be a large amount of money but you have to consider that EA may has not calculated with the loss of that money.

I personally was thankful for every patch they released. Most important things got fixed. I did not suffer that many CTD's, I have not been killed a lot by glitchers. I don't care about a overpowered J10 - it's just a better challenge. The new 2 maps are cool. On the other hand I didn't really care that much about over/underpowered weapons etc. I just play the game and had a lot of fun with it. Then I discovered the stats and my stats were awful (still are ). Looking at the stats I thought about ways to get better and that's the point where everybody goes to check for dis-/advantages.

    The gaming modes
    IO is great,
    COOP a good alternative.

Implementing modes like deathmatch and/or ctf are not likely to be compatible to the point/stat/ranking system. OH, I can nearly hear you cry about all those statpadders on that CTF-server.
Like someone said: the gamers WANTED an IO mode regarding all the non-official infantry servers. I havent seen a inofficial CTF-server or TDM-server.
Before you ask: i.e. you can use a vehicle instead of a flag.
The gamers also WANTED a COOP mode.
And waht did they get: IO and COOP. That's it. What does EA get, a lot of whiner emails saying "The bots are too good" or "I need a new filter to sort IO servers out" (btw a very good idea!!)
But it seems that it is much more easier to complain than just to say "Thank you!"

I think EA/DICE did a lot of support, but somehow they messed it up for some of you.

I can end almost every post with: It's the gamer who messes up the game!

QFT.... I was addicted to MOH:AA. I dont think that game got **** for support but I played it everyday for a year. It was FUN. Then I moved on to BF2. I play this game for an hour a night each night (if im lucky) and I can confirm it is not "broken". Whoever made that comment was a genious. A genious who probably just came out of a server after playing for three hours with 30 other people who were playing for three hours. People want their money stretched as far as possible. The only issue EA or DICE has a responsibility to listen to is "My game will not run or stay running".

I believe they've done an "ok" job. I'm not saying they have been great, but they arent as terrible as everyone makes them out to be. "A broken game" Man that is funny.

I'm not complaining. I'm just saying that every EA game is the same in terms of support. Take the Sims franchise or the endless amounts of sports franchises that EA produces. The Sims gets realeased, and then EA realises that they can make tons of money by selling all sorts of expansions and not worry about fixing things. Madden is almost the same thing every year with the same problems. They add some lame new feature, update the rosters and stats, and get a new soundtrack.

That's how it is for a large production company. They are a business and out to make money.

And yes, I do like BF2. I'd say almost everyone here does. Just don't be unrealistic, no matter what side you take on this issue. Yes, there are countless hours of entertainment from one $50 game, and yes, EA has worked to fix some issues. However, when you fire an entire development team and begin assigning patches to novice programmers and coders, the product suffers. There are still some bugs that have been around since the release. It costs EA money to fix these problems so they try to either avoid it or get it fixed as easily and cheaply as possible. The game will not be perfect, and it won't be tailored to everyone's liking, but there could have been more response from EA in the early stages. Or they could have released the game when it was ready... like most other companies.

            Re: 'Lack of Support'

The support we get from EA/DICE isn't that great, i don't care what Wikipedia says, EA support is not the best.
If you still think EA support is so great just like at some other games like Command & Conquer 3, instead of EA fixing the game right they want people who have router problems to open up over 15,000 ports to "fix" the issue.

BF2 is a fun game to play even with the bugs, the patches DICE released for it have been a joke, they really need to learn how to make a hotfix instead of making people download a 536mb patch just to fix server crash issue.

I know EA a business, but they shouldn't always do stuff just to milk its customers out of money, do like other publishers and release maps, weapons skins or models in patches.
Just look at what EA doing these days, they put streaming ad's in-games to make more money and they don't even lower the cost of the game.
They still don't release new maps in patches they want us to pay for booster packs or play on non ranked servers.
Lets not forget how they want us to PAY them for cheat codes for console games, no other game publisher milks its customers the way EA does.

Its not hard to see how greedy EA is if you just open your eyes and look at what they have done.

If you want to see a company that supports its games look at Valve, Counter-Strike Source came out in Oct. 7 2004 and they still continue to improve this game and release patches.
Battlefield 2 came out in June 2005 and i doubt we will see another patch/improvement.

Now do you still think EA such a great company and offers the best support around, you fanboi's need to wake up and stop thinking EA so perfect when it's not.

None forces you to buy the booster packs.
And really, some ppl pay money for cheat codes?????

Who said EA was perfect? Nobody did. I said that they weren't as bad as people like to think. If Counter Strike Source needs so many updates, why does it not get called 'broken'? If Valve is so great why do all their products get constant and endless updates? EA is as greedy as any other publisher, look at Valve, they SELL the extra story to HL2 - THAT is milking the consumer, you can talk about 'fanboi's' all you want, all you are doing is showing yourself to be a Valve 'fanboi'.

Because Valve listens to the community and uses the input it gets from them as a base of reference to improve its products. EA clearly does not.

Battlefield 2-Modern Combat, add on the expansions and you get modern combat, let me do the math...Battlefield 2 (50$)+Special Forces (20-30$)+Euro Forces (10$)+Armored Fury (10$)=90-100$ for ONE modern combat game, a simulator goes for about 200 USD we're one hundred shy of a simulator...and far from a sim.

Maybe you'll get some read-time if you post in the 2142 or bad company forum.

Let's play the 'Who read the OP' game, where I clearly prove they do listen. And if Valve are so amazing, why does CSS STILL not support dual core processing?

Let's also consider that people started flouting the stats system, they started running 'Infantry Only' servers against the TOS to increase their points. What did EA/DICE do? Implement the VERY POPULAR feature themselves. They saw what a major part of the community wanted and they did it. Now, they continue to take extensive feedback from the community (as they did with other patches) and are potentially developing yet another patch, despite the fact that the majority of that community whines about everything they do. It seems that a lot of people think that the game was developed specifically for them to play, that every change should be geared to their personal wants. This just defies all common sense.

That must have been really hard, to implement IO in BF2

After 2 years we still have CTD's and Red Tag bugs to name just a couple of the bugs in this game.
What does EA/DICE do? They give us the Commander option of being able to drop vehicles ... bugs? What bugs?

Dont ever compare Valve with EA, because EA fails horribly.

The only thing BF2 has going for it atm is the Mods like PR & DCON. They have their fanbase and actually take their players seriously.

No offence leeham but I find your post a bit foolhardy.

Dice can't be balmed for being forced to rush the game out of production, no doubt, but companys like Epic Games, for instance have proven that EA could do Alot more than they do currently as far as community support is concerned.

Did Battlefield 2 ever get bonus packs that came with 8+ new levels, and new vehicles for free?(Again thanks can be given to Epic for their Ut2004 packs.) Excluding Jalabad the answer is no. They made users pay for every tiny little piece of extra content.
You also mention all the patches they put out. Well nice as it was of them to put out so many, it's they're fault they had to put all those out int he first place. They ended up making more problems than the game started with becuase they rushed their product so bad. That red tag bug took 4 patches to kill for goodness sake!
So quit trying to defend DICE, and EA especially. They're big boys, and can handle the citicism this community gives them. If the community didn't "whine" about things all we'd have is sucky unfinished junk. It's our right and responsibilty to call to their attention things that need to be changed. BF2 IS a good game, but it has it's flaws, flaws we try to draw EA attention to.

And about Counterstrike, it's hardly fair to pick on valve, that was for all extents and purposes an Entire second game they gave people for free, n addition to the entire SP and MP portion of Halflife 2.....

Not to mention allowing for multi-core processors requires a massive amount of coding. THey would have had to alter large amounts of the core source code to make such capabilities avalible, something not possible once a game is already released.

I can't believe people are actually defending EA and DICE. I got a word of advise, how about you get your mouth off there cocks?

Has any of you ever played any other game not made by EA? They Listen to the community (and NOT whiny pub-nubs like DICE did) and they know how to fix it. Have you seen the way they fix some things in BF2? no jump+shoot was when the bad all started, then came to that TERRIBLE crouch delay, then jet missiles, etc.

Have any of you played a game where the same issues where fixed? I have, and they did it much better than BF2 did. For example, CoD fixed Bhopping, and there is jump+shoot, they made it so that you slow down when you land, and bhopping is impossible. It is 100X better then the crap they have now, and it MIGHT take an extra 2 minutes of coding, bunt no, they rather just get the quickfix out to make the bad whiney nubs happy.

Just, please, look at the change log for css, cs1.6, CoD, CoD2, or ANY other game with sub-par support, and you will see how bad DICE and EA actually are.
