What do you mean "goes unranked" ???? Why would it go unranked?

To have ranks someone needs to maintain a server to store the data; if a company is not getting any money for doing it eventually it will be shut down.

With no account server you need to use an offline account. We'd probably have to use Hamachi (free VPN software) to play "local" games over the internet as some people have been doing with co-op games for a long time already.

They would release a patch that makes BF2 like all other MP games, no account bs or something like that. Making the game unplayable online would be a very stupid move.

You guys realize that if bf2 goes unranked that means you can mod all the servers to whatever you want...(making weapons more accurate, less accurate, adding more vehicles to the maps) sooooo reverting to an unstable version doesnt make sense at all...

ah dont forget those crazy changes they made in 1.2 as well, aa missiles that were crazy, every air vehicle got absolutly mullered by them :laugh:

Because plane whores were mad that missiles actually worked how they were supposed to. If I have a missile lock and you have no flares to protect yourself, you should be dead 90% of the time.

They've never released a patch removing the CD check from BF1942; what would make you think they would release a patch for this?

I'm really looking forward to Crysis as well. But I don't think support will be as much of an issue if the engine is solid to begin with. I honestly believe that Dice just did a crappy job of making BF2, the patches just made things worse. It's like giving a porsche to someone to go racing, then remotely detonating his steering [patch 1.3], then the brakes [1.4].


By the time it comes out I'll be ready for my next computer upgrade, which is a good thing, as my current video card won't cut it with that game. :)

2142's lack of success isn't that much of a surprise either. It's the same thing that happened with BF1942/Vietnam, same engine, new weapons/vehicles. A crappy mod they expect you to pay for. I didn't.

What's amazing is that 2142 hasn't dropped in price yet... Someone must be buying this disappointing 'mod', because Electronics Boutique still lists it at $59.99 CAN.

I won't touch 2142 until it hits the bargain bin, if ever.
