I have only played with the latest patch so I would probably try going back to when the Blackhawks had powerful guns. Im not sure which one that was and if the game had major crashing problems. I wouldnt really care about rank to be honest id keep playing as usual until something better comes along.

1.3 had major stability issues. 1.4 tried to fix it but diddnt quite get it. 1.41 has the best stability out of the 3...though still maybe not as good as 1.12 +1.2 . But then again 1.3+ added more things.

Ah I dout BF2 is going to go unranked. I remember when 1.12 was out alot of karkand and NO IO from what I recall either that or I was on somthing.

they will eventually stop recording and storing stats theres no way they will continue forever...maybe u were on something, but im pretty sure IO came out in 1.4......thre was IO servers pre 1.4, but they were just regular server that kicked if u used vehicles

i suppose ABR will take over, and all the servers will be recording stats with that instead....so maybe we will still have point whores and stat padders....

i wonder if there is a group to enoforce fair stats with ABR (like an ROE)...and which servers will be allowed to steam stats...which version? how about IO? knife/pistol? now im more curious as to the future of BF2 and its stats system

1.12 was good because:

no infantry nerfs (aka, infantry took skill)
chopper=god
game was faster pace
squad hopping
spec-ops was actually usefull (c4>>tanks)
registry with guns was far better
assault was.... the "assault" class
no crashing problems


Although, a lot of pubs were "karkand", it was really fun, and that's when I had the best time playing the game.

which version will you be playing....?? since unranked servers will fill up quick, im sure ppl will revert back to older/better versions....

i might go with 1.12, or 1.3.....1.12 is the version that was present when i first got the game.....it was great back then....

I think I'll be playing BF3, as that seems like a good time to cut off stat saving: To support the newest game.

That is unless another game comes along that incorporates all that was good with BF2, but adds things like "realistic physics", a less exploitable point system, and a true infantry/ground-vehicle/air-vehicle balance . Game companies know that there is a market and would love get a piece of the pie. This is the same situation that ID Software was in between Quake II and Quake III. As it turned out, other companies (Valve, Epic Games, etc) jumped in and began to grab pieces of the market. I can see the EXACT same thing happening with the MMOFPS (or whatever it is called) market.

The next few years should bring a bunch of great games that will make BF2 seem archaic.

I'm afraid the servers will be full of hackers and glitchers as I think any supervision of the servers will end with the beginning of the unranktedness.

Maybe I'll start playing Mods....
