For me BF2142 is superior to BF2 in almost every aspect. The graphics are much more slick and polished with antialiased transparency making a huge differences for things like fences and foliage.
Also..they nailed the infantry combat this time through. In BF2 while still great fun infantry combat is essentially at least half-broken. When you encounter an enemy its whoever drops to his belly first wins. In 2142 you have to decide if you want stay up for worst aim but highest mobility...if you want to crouch for imediatly improved aim and reduced mobility or if you want to go prone and take an imediate hit in aim precision until it narrows down again over time with the advantage of a reduced profile.
This how it should have been in BF2 from the start and that alone makes BF2142 win out clearly.

maybe for relative noobs and or G36E users, but thats about it. go back to your pathetic battlefront ripoff, yea i bought that game and played it for a good hour before i realised it had nowhere near the map quality of bf2, the maps suck complete ***, they are small, and dull and the guns are retarded, cmon its 2142 where the **** are my lasers and microwaves, ffs they have laser guns now. the game is a POS knockoff of BF2 so much that they couldnt even bother to make a new engine, just essentially a cheesy mod.

It'll be a cold day in hell that I'd be wanting to use guns which have LESS accuracy than guns which existed 140 years before them.

Seriously? Where's the battery powered pneumatic stabilisers? Those futuristic guns should be shooting explosive armour-piercing rounds of OMGWTFHAX or something.

Instead I should just go play unreal tournament. I didn't pay for it, and I feel like I might actually hit my target more often.

I am just wondering do you guys think that 2142 will take over bf2 or just kind of phase out? I have invested considerable time in BF2 but don't want to get to a high rank (eventually) and there be no one left playing. Any advice?

But I also understand why so many people (especially in this thread) are not willing to make the change from nade spamming I/O whores, unwavering scopes and simply basic gameplay to a world of improvement. 2142 offers about 48 unlocks compared to the 12 or so in BF2. You get an unlock every time you rank up in 2142. The scopes waver according to your stance, and it is quite balanced gameplay compared to BF2 and all the complaints of the J-10 etc.

Big f*cing deal...the game play is boring, and doesn't attract me like BF2 does...and don't generalize everyone into IO Karkand 24/7 players....I haven't played vanilla in who knows how long....I don't play for stats, or unlocks, I don't even think I HAVE any unlocks(and Ive been playing this game since JUL 05') so why would I be interested in a game thats based SOLELY on stats, and ranking up....

LoL its booster pack had 2 vehicles....2....thats it....the only reason people bought it was for the unlocks they would get....

I bought 2142, I thought it was going to be interesting, and I recognize the engine improvements over BF2....but ya know....the game is boring, simple as that....

the thing about 2142 is technically its 100% better, especially performance and feature wise. the maps are nice you get a decent mix of infantry and vahicle areas with a few exceptions.

the problem is the for the majority the whole future thing is weak, i personally love it, no more %%%ER %"£"£R "RF£$R" sand.

however the thing that is killing it is no matter how nice you are playing it you are always thinking

"what if bf2 could be like this"

the fact remains that bf2 has like an aoura around it that even with the smacktards and dodgey servers it has a life to it that bf2142 doesnt. 2142 is surgical bf2 is organic.

plus you get more priceless WTF moments from bf2 then nearly any other game bar mercenaries 1 that game was ****ing hillarious.

2142 took the worst factors of bf2, and mainstreamed them.

Most weapons in 2142 have the accuracy of the Mp5, the voss is just a fully auto, 40 round g36e.

Artillary has been given apcs, so now you can spam over-powered death to your hearts content. The helicopters have been given jumpjets. Tanks had their coaxial machineguns removed (which, fyi, had been a standard tank feature since world war ONE)

I could go on, but I'm bored of this topic. Fact: 2142 sucks.

thanks, and Quake Wars might do well but that game might get old after a while. (as does almost any game with a few exceptions)

I tried BF2142. I spent a few hours with it. It sucked. With all of BF2's problems it's still entertaining. BF2142 is absolutely boring and looks bland in comparison. It has a few good ideas that I wish BF2 had, but the game itself sucks. It has pretty much the same problems as BF2 except some are flip-flopped. Titan mode or whatever it's called = camp in the ship. It's hard to tell the difference between the enemy and friendly units since they're pretty much all the same color. Guns seem completely underpowered. I don't think I ever played a game like that before where it actually felt like a chore to play rather than fun. It's not even the future setting that's the problem, it's just a bland, unimaginative game. It's like they hired a few college students to make a mod for BF2 and decided to charge $50 for it.

I bought 2142 a few weeks ago, it's really fun, I am having some problems with it now though. It is a great game, but to me they are both the same amount of fun, so I have no preferance.

i recently purchased 2142. I have to say, I like the graphics. I think it sucks that as a noob playing, u don't get even grenades. u can't revive someone. lol.. I guess the next rank that gets unlocked. I don't know...

I really think BF2 is much more fun to play. It's just has that something edge to it... I really can't complain about it. The graphics on Bf2 may not be ohmg amazing, but the game gives u that adrenaline feeling. Needless to say, I play them both. I can't say either sucks. I rather say they both have their strong points, and their week points.

Don't even bother trying to defend the game dude. The world has spoken, 2142 blows.

A game that's lower ranked than its own predecessor is obviously one not worth investing in.
