    Re: Strike at Karkand I/O

i hate ot b/c its so repetitive(sp). everytime ive played karkand one of three things happens
    1. USMC gets spawncamped the whole round
    2. ONE marine sneaks around to either suburb or factory caps it and while the MEC spawn campers wonder where everyone is the USMC caps every flag end of round
    3. the marines push the MEC back to that bridge between train accident and gatehouse and the ensuing stalemate lasts 3 1/2 hours.

karkand just gets boring after a while. its fun sometimes and really good for getting points early off in the game (which is why i have 56 hours there) but afterward it sucks.

      Re: Strike at Karkand I/O

Copied and pasted this from one of my responses about IO in another forum.

But as far as BF2 IO goes...........

I remember when action used to be that frantic and the maps that intimate. Mastering angles and repetitive situations over and over again.

But that was before the BF series

I choose not to play IO in BF2 because the physics are the worst representation of hand eye coordination in any game ever. Your supposed to miss a lot in BF2, that's why squads, commanders, VOIP, spawnpoints, vehicles were also introduced into the game. Taking the one purposely weakened area of BF2 (CQC), and using it on it's own is , well, sort of stupid if you ask me. Go play Quake, or RogueSpear (my favorite), or something.

Twitchy shooters, been there done that, and was damn good at a few of them. Time to move on.

I didn't build a custom machine that can display BF2 @ 1600x1200 to see the character animations assassinated and exploited over and over again.

IO looks terrible because the extents people will go to, to gain an advantage over something that was supposed to be a hindrance, namely cone of fire. Even after all that it only gives you a slight advantage. All that hopping and leaping around like a douchewhistles and for what? To play a game that was never originally designed to be played that way. A game that every innovative thing it introduced to gaming, needs to be stripped out of it, in order to become something else.

And don't give me that **** about "you can't hang". I can easily hang if I decided to play that way. Anyone can as long as they put enough time into it. Then again you can get used to hitting yourself in the head with a hammer more then some one else, but I personally wouldn't find that enjoyable either.

karkand accounts for like 90% of my time, but theres a difference between playing karkand and being a nade spammer. there is also a difference between using a lot of grenades and nade spamming. (i have thrown like 9000, but they are all aimed at people.)

EDIT: that works out to be a little less than 15 an hour. i would imagine that there are a lot worse.

also, grenades account for only about 6% of my kills

I agree. Infantry in BF2 has been so dumbed down, it's not even worth playing. Which is why you'll never see me on the ground(unless I'm in a squad with clanmates, or running to steal an air vehicle). If I want to play Infantry, I load up PR, because THAT is Infantry combat. Yeah, BF2Pro is fun...but it still feels unnatural, and you end up playing with the same people every time.

BF2 was never developed to be an Infantry-based game. Hell, I'm doubting if it was developed as a team-based game. IO is repetitive, boring, and random, no matter what map you're on. Every map has 1 or 2 inevitable stalemates, why? Because they weren't developed as Infantry maps.

I disagree. In fact, I bet that many of these maps had infantry in mind when they were developed, for the simple fact that the majority of the players WILL be on foot. Not everyone can get a vehicle, so the use of squad tactics were encouraged and undoubtedly expected to encounter groups of enemy infantry.

I don't think that the introduction of IO into BF2 was necessary bad, it has just been exploited and turned into the mess that can happen in Karkand/Jalalabad. In my opinion, some maps are quite good if not better in IO. Specifically the SF maps. Ghost Town for instance was a bit too cramp for vehicles and was pretty much an infantry map from the beginning. IO just reinforced this.

I've been playing Battlefield since 1942 and always enjoyed the use of vehicles. But less face it, players spend most of their time on foot. Yes it's fun to figure out ways to take out enemy armor with an AT squad, but most of the time the ones who get the highest score are those who are lucky enough to get a vehicle. So how is this a level playing field for EVERYONE? IO pretty much gives each player an equal opportunity to fight one another.

I'm not saying IO is wonderful, but it's not as bad as many of you make it seem. Just my point of view....

karkand attracts all the stat padders, glitchers, cheaters, and point whores....

point whores do anything to get points, like spamming ammo, health packs, GRENADES, and claymores.....they also like spawn kill, and baserape....

add all the elements above, and u get ur typical round of karkand IO...

for some reason, karkand is HOME for all these retards and noobs who turn the game into something else.....pointwhore spammerfest.....i wouldnt be suprised if they never have squads or a commander....

                  Re: Strike at Karkand I/O

So I've heard 3 basic criticisms of Karkand I/O-

                  1) Nade Spamming
Person complains because either everyone is nade spamming the Hotel, or they keep getting killed because of nade spamming.

                  2) Repetitiveness
Person complains about the same setups- Hotel stalemate, Train Wreck/Gatehouse stalemate, USMC breakthrough to Suburbs.

                  3) Not the Real Game
Person complains that BF2 came with vehicles, and therefore is a vehicle-designed game. Taking away vehicles whittles it down to something it was not meant to be.

Well, my well-prepared defense is this--

                  go screw yourselves.

Just kidding- I will say, however, that if you are agreeing with-

                  1) Then you are just not playing right, and you can't see the forest for the trees. Nade spammers are themselves tasty targets, so the more of them, the higher your kill rate... if you know where to exploit them. Clue- lots of people get around this aspect, and in fact, exploit for their own purposes. You just don't know how. Pity you until you do, or just stop playing I/O.

                  2)
The game is following a repetitive form because there are those trying to fight without thinking, instead of thinking things through. This is all along the same lines as the nade spammers. If you know what you're doing, you can exploit the 'same old patterns' until the enemy realizes they can't fight that way anymore. You as a player can steer the game wherever you want while scoring big points... if you are good enough and think things through.

                  3) You must be one of those vehicle whores eveyone complains about in 'normal' mode. Face it, even in 'normal' mode most people are not in a vehicle to begin with... that's why I/O came about (most people are already on foot and tired of competing for a few vehicles and being screwed when you don't have one... I/O levels that playing field for everone.) And to put up some techy physics argument is really just a bunch of baloney... if the physics were really that bad you'd see it in 'normal' mode...

Basically you can be as mindless as you want in I/O, and you will eventually tire of it. Or... you can think about how to play the game, invent some real strategies, and actually demand teamwork out of your teammates. For those that enjoy I/O, that seems to be the trick... thinking. If you don't like thinking, then don't even try I/O.

Or maybe I/O simply isn't your cup o' tea. That's really, to me, the only acceptable complaint.

                    Re: Strike at Karkand I/O

I was playing in the Kaboom 64 man Karkand IO lastnight and there wasn't a single medic on my team for two whole rounds.

                    So ya...medic whores, what?
Correct, no medic whores around on IO anymore.

karkand is one of the best maps in BF2 no matter which mode you play. Just evade the nades. It is not that difficult. The same as the snipers on RtJ are not that hard to evade. You just have to adapt you playing style to the mode you play. That way you can enjoy both modes!

The map, and mode aren't the problem, it's the infestation of idiots that play the game. It's the same with ANY map, in normal or IO. With vehicles, you still have nade spam, spawncamping armor, dipsh!ts that sit around waiting for vehicles not doing anything, there's realy no difference, except the players that need protection from vehicles don't have it.

One big difference you are missing xjohnx. You dont get TK'ed for a vehicle in IO. In fact Tk'ing is at a minimum in IO. Most TK's are accidental unlike normal mode.

Why do I not like Karkand I/O?

Because as a medic you can get scores twice as high as a jet/tank whore on other maps.

Because of the initial grenade fest.

Because of the lack of major battles BESIDES the initial grenade fest.

Oh, and snipers. Now, I don't complain about snipers, but when I have about 5 guys with L96s and M95s aimed at my head, it gets annoying fast.

Not even CLOSE... A helo person on a map like sharqi, or any maps where j-10's are not dominating, they can rack up the kills very fast, and you know, points are serious biz. Something can not be "gay" because of points, People only think medics are overpowered because of points, If it wasn't for points, no one would be complaining.

Thats somewhat can be a good thing (par nades) because I hate how pubbing IO on other maps, people wonder around like chickens with there heads cut off.
