artilary however, yea its very very gay, the commander option as a whole is awefull and does indeed remove the fun and stealth from the game. you can bet everytime u try to sneak somewhere that the magical scanner picks you up and 5 enemies come after you.

what can you do about it? whine on a forum?, whine at ea to change it?(they wont) or play smarter ?
wtf?, earth calling zipp0r, oh, i thought we lost you a minute there. this is BF2 and not Splinter Cell by the way. why, apart from snipers, would stealth play a big part in a full on combat game?! geesh, and it dont need changing. yeah the arty strikes may seem annoying, but when used properly, (and by this i mean not on the man on his own, away from everything), they can be VERY effective. they can save the whole round infact, if you use as a defence mechanism on a flag, it saves 10 people running over, when maybe 1 or 2 could go to clear up the scraps.

This has nothing to do with Splinter Cell, Sherlock. Apply common fvcking sense and you will get killed by a jet only a few times a round. Stop rushing around like a tard, and actually think. Jets are extremely predictable, more than artillery strikes.

People still amaze me, the jet is doing it's job. Bombing the enemy into the ground, and people will complain.

the OP was talking about it in his post.
stealth should be there for a player that wants to be sneaky.
i know what arty can do when used properly, but it isnt, its used on any one anywhere.

How so? They're fast and seemingly come out of nowhere .. artillery strikes are extremely obvious because you hear the *BOOM, BOOM, BOOM* in the background most of the time before they start hitting. Of course, the hard part is knowing WHERE the strike will be hitting (and if it's going to be in your area or somewhere else).

Jets, on the other hand, are so fast that unless a UAV is scanning the area or someone spots them, you don't know they're there until it's usually too late to do anything about it. Of course they're predictable in terms of saying, "If I get in this tank, I'm probably going to be bombed," but in terms of predicting them such as saying, "I predict jets will only be striking here and here at this time and that time," that's definitely not what I've experienced. They seem to be all over the place all the time.

The only REAL way you can predict them is if you see someone bombing the same spot over and over and over, but most of the time they tend to bomb one spot, then move to another spot, then another spot so that they won't have a chance of being caught by AA and such.

Jalabad is a damned good map. One of the best Battlefield infantry maps I've played (out of any BF game) to be honest.

When was it introduced? I took a long break from Battlefield 2 (several months) and I actually just recently found out about it when I reinstalled the game a couple of weeks ago.. it's definitely a masterpiece though. I'm glad they included it!

if you know how a pilot thinks i.e what kinda stuff he is going to bomb, then you know where to be to avoid the bombs.

Re: Jets make up for artillery?

Honestly, as a sniper (in response to the stealth question), I don't find it too difficult to avoid jets or artillery. I typically am behind enemy lines sniping at enemy uncap or airfield to do my part in keeping the planes on the ground. As a result of sniping those areas, I am typically within earshot of the arty. When I hear them fire, I move a hundred meters or so. As a sniper, you ought to be moving often and keeping an eye up for a UAV anyway so that even after the commander spots you, you are out of his FOV for a while. I find that even when a commander decides he's going to make me his personal mission, he ends up neglecting the rest of the battle for a while so my teammates make some progress. Then, once he kills me, I just respawn and move back to his backfield... always bothering him...

Re: Jets make up for artillery?

Have you ever noticed it's only the pilots who claim the AA works?

I know with some very coordinated efforts you can keep air power in check. Against the best jet pilots even the most coordinated STA and mobile AA (which isn't on some air maps), it's just a minor nuisance for them. Once they realize your gunning for them they simply avoid you or target you first. Since the STA is static it's just a matter of memorizing runs at the same location and firing before they even come into sight or radar range. A skill yes, but once mastered a sure fire way to take out STA and not risk much danger.
Mobile AAs simply get spotted by every one, commander included. I spot mobile AA more then anything else to keep my team's pilots fully aware if they are active. One they're spotted it's nearly the same as STA. A big target that can be taken out easily. Being mobile doesn't mean much if your being spotted constantly.

I remember in '42 the pilots had the spots memorized and knew the angle of the flakguns couldn't point straight up. They'd divebomb you while you desperately hoped they would deviate from their path. The good one's never did and sniped you right out of the FLAKS, then dropped a bomb on them to take them out.

Maybe some of you guys are not the pilots you think you are if you think AA can be effective. Because the pilots I play against don't seem to fear them, even when it's well coordinated. Does it throw a monkey wrench into their plan, yes to some degree, but it's a very weak deterrent.

The only thing I've found that works well is to have my team's pilots chase or "drag" the apposing pilots over an STA I'm manning. I stay out of it , then hop in it and try and get them while they are distracted by the dog fight.

The problem is it takes a monumental team effort to keep jet's down. But an individual pilot can wreak havoc. That's not the same with other vehicles. It doesn't take VOIP, good teammates and experience to take out even the best tanker. All it takes is a group of individuals recognizing the the threat and acting accordingly.

Plus there's no hand held weapon a that can be used against jets.

There's no piranha to the shark, no paper to the rock, that is jets.

Add to all of this the E-penis point system and it gets even worse. I dare to bet with out the point system , many pilots would agree to separate if they are on the same side. I mean besides the frenzy for points, what fun is there in shooting fish in a barrel the whole round?

Add to that a protected area where no one can attack in many servers and you've got a formula for a disaster in some circumstances.

I find it amazing that pilots are some of the first to call for UCB rules. As if the other team shouldn't be concerned that they get off the ground. It's just sportsmanship to let them off the ground they'll claim. Of course once in the air you'd think they'd give you the same courtesy? It's crush kill destroy whether you are ready or not.

Ask a pilot in a server that has protected ACCs or air bases if you can get in the Mobile AA and get a chance to find a spot to hide or even get rolling. They'll laugh at you. But it's essentially the same thing they are given, yet it's so common now they take it for granted.

You going to have a small percentage of people who will spend the 1000hrs it takes to become nearly invulnerable that's a given. But I believe once UCB airstrips became protected areas, and TKing for jets (which used to a cardinal sin) became common place,it accelerated the amount of experienced pilots to the point where there would never be this many, at this time.

How good would people be in STA if they couldn't be attacked (by anyone) in the same amount of servers that have the same rule for ACCs and airstrips that are at UCBs? We'll never know, because the proverbial cat is out of the bag.

If a jet pilot expects to be unencumbered till he takes off they he should agree not to target STAs. They're static and can't "take off" or "get going".

We all know it needs to be addressed Chris has some very sophisticated and learned examples of how he would do it.

But I don't think it stands the community well to down play the biggest draw back of BF2, I personally think it's more of a distraction to a good round, then cheaters. I'm effected much more adversely by lopsided air power, then I am cheaters by far.

I learned to live with it, but still think it's the biggest area the needs improvement.

Oh please Chris, don't start. I'll buy your load of hooey about the STA and teamwork because I've made it happen to a lesser extent. But your over stepping the bounds of reason.

A vehicle that does not have any limitations to it's travel space, can traverse the the length and breadth of even the largest maps in a matter of seconds, travels at the highest rates of speed and to scale has the quickest 180 (two polar opposites) on top of that the only vehicle able to use the out of bounds with any effectiveness is........

                            Extremely predictable?

More predicable then artillery...yes I'd say that is true. But extremely predicable is simply wrong.

                            Care to restate that?

If jets are extremely predictable then I should be able to check a bus schedule to see when the next tank is coming.

I would also like to add how it seems that all pilots wear this sorta vail over their heads. Thats some how altering their outlook towards the imbalance between jets and AA.

Maybe its because they've never even stepped foot in an AA/mobile AA.

Or maybe its because of their supreme flying prowess that enables them to go 90-0. Oh, nooo...it cant be the game...it has to be the opponents. We just do not posess the god like skills it would take to bring them down.

                                Indeed.

                                T-90 Timetable:

                                10:00
                                10:01
                                10:02
                                10:03
                                10:04

etc, etc, not counting the time taken for each person in the tank to do their run.

With jet's, if you're remotely competent, you know that the timetable is every 60 seconds, or possibly less. If you're incompetent, you know your own jet is going to appear in 60 seconds.

The difference is who's raping who.
