    Re: STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl

I bought it Friday. I am disappointed. I have a Core2Duo Pentium running at 300Mhz...2GB RAM...8800GTX...and RAIDED HD's. I have everything maxxed out and while I will admit the lighting is nice.....I still have screen tearing on my 24" Widescreen Monitor at 1900x1200. The Multiplayer was EXTREMELY disappointing...you have to BUY guns....DUMB. It plays like a polished version of Rise of the Triad. (Google it...if you don't know)

Eh..it was only $35...but having played BF2....it really PALES by comparison. If you look at the graphics of HL2..this comes NO where near those. I hope that QW:ET is better....and I have VERY high hopes for CRYSIS.

I have been watching S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s development for the last 2 years.....and I find myself wondering...."this is it?"

I might give it another chance this weekend...but you know what they say about first impressions....

Just played some more last night and now I REALLY think it sucks. Got to the part where you fend off the garbage dump from the bandits. The damn AK is weak..and you can't hit anything with it...and it takes 50 shots!! Also..you can't get in to any of the vehicles there....and the graphics aren't that great..and the game stutters too much when it loads stuff.....all the time...while you walk around.

This game would have been good 5 years ago. I fired up BF2 last night and basked in the graphics glory. It might be time to dump STALKER in the nuclear waste dump....or EBAY.

So MP side of it sucks because of buying guns? how about MP gameplay?

I'm contemplating buying this game too, so any info is welcome.

One thing to keep in mind though is that this is as much of a multiplayer game as Battlefield 2 is a singleplayer game. The multiplayer was really just an afterthought to the massive singleplayer. If multiplayer just happens to be good, then thats great, but don't expect too much.

I know what you mean, but, look at call of duty(the first one, F the second one), it was mainly a SP game but it's online really took off.

Check this vid out, Stalker looks really cool.

I'll wait and see, if the online community picks it up, I'm getting it.

            hmm..

This week, threads have started showing up on various forums containing what appears to be evidence that GSC Game World's recently released shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl makes use of a number of graphical assets taken directly from commercially released games such as Valve's Half-Life 2 and id Software's Doom 3. Many forum posters are speculating that the assets were used without authorization.

I'm inside the Nuclear Power Plant now, scary as hell, got this messed up Russian voice in my head (in the game...) and what feels like an infinite number of elite Monolith group enemies on my ***.

              edit: possible spoiler below

I got to the wish granter and I made a wish to be rich and the ceiling fell on me and killed me.
I'm gonna play through again for a new ending and do more sidequests and stuff.

                  Freaking love this game.
Using a 2x damage mod and playing on the hardest. Possibly the best AI I`ve ever seen in a game (yes, I`ve played F.E.A.R n FarCry). Gfx are awesome, the detail that has been put into the game is just ****ing unbelievable.
Never enjoyed a PC game like this in a while I have to say.

I'm going to go download the demo for the game right now. It looks awesome.

The screenies kind of remind me of Half Life 2.

The Single player had to have been the Best I have seen hands down... Better then HL2 in my opinion but how many people play single player? I did because I could not afford my 8mb connection lmao 75 bux a month when I just quit my job was a no go haha anyways all is good now I upgraded from 8mb to a 10mb connection and now its even better :)

some people might. I know im not going to support someone who ripped artwork from other designers (if it turns out to be true).

Normally there are textures avalible to buy and rather than create a texture each time for a game devs buy these textures and use them (or some tiems not) in there games. so don't judge before you get all your facts right. It could jsut turn out that this is the case or any number of others.

Apparently that is the case: http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/46572

Back on topic, I'm loving the game too. Great atmosphere to it.
