Stuttering is usually caused by bad gfx drivers/snd drivers, but i noticed u have a 420W PSU, is this of any perticular brand? As this could be the fault!!!

Not enough pwer getting to the components, hence slowing everything down. When choosing a PSU you want a top branded one like, tagan, hiper, akasa. the standard ones are poo, for example a 350W standard one will not produce this much wattage, instead somewhere along 300W

My brother has a 420w power supply too, so I figured that its not the power supply.

Indeed stuttering can come from a faulty hard drive

I know you said you checked the running processes, but can you check the total CPU usage?

Press ctrl+alt+delete to bring up the task manager and note the new greenish square icon that appears in your taskbar. Is the new icon (animated according to CPU usage) mostly bright or dark green most of the time?

A lot of bright green indicates something using up a lot of your processors cycles

You can edit what starts up with windows through:
start -> run -> msconfig
start -> run -> services.msc

services.msc has a detailed description beside each entry in case your worried about messing up your system again

I got a new hard drive and that did the trick, there is absolutely no more stuttering.

I'm having the same problem and was wondering if it was my harddrive or my psu because both of them are fairly new, being about 1 to 2 years old for each of them.

Im running BF on my system perfectly, still using 1gig of memory (Dual Channel) Try taking 1gig out, and let ur rig run on dual channel. I also had that damned choppiness, boosted my system with a new raptor harddisk (10000 rpm) wich let my whole windows run perfect, except BF. I noticed that my hard drive was working very hard while running BF, this is due the usage of your ram, when fully in use and ur system needs more memory, it uses Virtual Ram on ur harddrive. (thats the green color u see while defrag)

Go to > contoll panel > system > advanced > visual effects

And put the setting there on best performance, this saves ur ram usage

And go to controll panel > system > advanced > visual effects > advanced > virtual memory And change there ur virtual mem settings in : let system decide. This will decrease ur virtual mem on ur harddisk, so it has to do less work while running BF.

I got one Gb and it works awsome
my specs are low
but BF2 still runs on high
