Stuttering, even with 2gigs of ram

I don't know where to start with my problem, I've been searching for solutions, countless goggling and reading, I have come across many people with my problem yet they don't know the cause. I stutter in game and out of game, not really bf42, also steam games stutter.

    ----------

Let me first list my system specs

    Motherboard: 865PE Neo2-PLS/ PFS/ PFISR
    link: [link]

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.53 GHz

    Video Card: NVIDIA 7600GS 256MB

    RAM: 2gigs ( 2048mb ) PC2700 DDR 333 Kingston non Dual channel ( 4 512mb ram sticks )

Sound Card: Sound Blaster Audigy 4 SE

    Power Supply: 420W

    20 Gig hard drive

    80 Gig hard drive

    CD ROM burner

    DVD player

    -----------------------------------------------

When I had 1 gig of ram

Basically what happens: When I start BF2, the movies stutter, the menu stutters, loading a map stutters, my mouse movement stutters, when I first load a map it stutters for 2 minutes and goes away! Music does not stutter.

I have browsed for solutions and many times I have heard, get another gig of ram, so finally I get another gig of ram, installed, BIOS reads it fine, windows reads it fine, still stutters.

I have been stuttering for a very long time on this setup, I have done some reformats; I have always used appropriate/latest drivers for my video card, sound card and mother board. I do not have any viruses, I don’t run any other applications in the background besides normal setup ( I have toyed with the running processes and ended up screwing up XP )

So processes, drivers are not the problem, video card is not the problem ( done many upgrades still have it) sound card not the problem (although removed sound stuttering)

I have toyed with the settings only God knows how many times I have, I have deleted the shaders after every video setting (also altered sound settings) I don’t have VOIP enabled.

I clear my TEMP internet files frequently, I defrag every weekend

so even with 2 gigs of ram my recent upgrade, I STILL stutter! My brother has pretty much the same thing.

    6600GT 128mb video card

whatever the sound card is, rather dated

    1 gig ram pc3200

    and other things.

I used to have that setup, but he does not stutter! (And he has Norton running too)

    ------------------------------------

So what’s the darn deal with this freaking stuttering I've tried many things

the only thing I haven’t ally considered changing is my Power supply unit, which is 420W. How come my brother with worse hard ware doesn’t stutter?!

May I also include, Just on my desktop, when I open team speak or something, I have that same stuttering, which lasts for the same time. Even out of game I stutter. I really cannot find a solution.

Till now my friends, I have suspicions that my 420W Power Supply Unit may be the cause; I've browsed for similar cases, funny how the PSU is rarely even mentioned after a non successful conclusion of the mystery of not solving stuttering!

So what do you think? Maybe it’s my PSU? Or am I out of luck...

Did you try uninstalling your old video card drivers completely before installing the newest ones?

    From the nvidia website:

"Before installing new drivers make sure you uninstall all NVIDIA display drivers from the Windows Control Panel. Browse to the Start Menu > Windows Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and search for "NVIDIA Windows Display Drivers" or "NVIDIA Display Drivers" and select remove."

Have you checked for system conflicts?

Oh yes, also I have reformated a few times. So definitly that has occurred.

Check for system conflicts? Are you talking about some program that check for conflicts? Not sure what that is.

I mean just checking for IRQ conflicts

right click my computer, properties, hardware tab, device manager, expand sound, video and game controllers and see if anything has a yellow triangle exclamation mark beside it (problem indicator)

Also if i'm not mistaken, the first PCI slot shares resources with the primary PCI-express slot so if you have any PCI hardware there that could be moved to another slot, move it and see if the problem remains

Alright I have a question mark under
          category: Other devices

In Other devices it has a Question mark with a ! over the question mark for Multimedia Audio Controller, not sure what it is, I right clicked and selected properties.

          gernaral tab:

          useful info

Location PCI bus 0, device 31, function 5

Device status: The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

          The device is enabled

so I really am not sure what this is, such a driver is needed I suppose where may I find it.

            hmm multimedia audio controller..

You don't have a tv tuner card listed in your specs above.. so have you turned off the onboard sound (if present) on the motherboard?

You turn off the onboard sound (built in soundcard) via the BIOS

If you have both the onboard audio and the audigy fighting over who gets to render the sounds, it could be causing problems

With your motherboard you should have had a CD that provides for all the drivers required for the board. Did you install all off them right after installing windows ?

If not - look on that cd for Audio Driver - dimes to donaughts your Onboard sound drivers are not intalled.

I shall honestly say however , that I have doubts that this is what is creating your problem.

4 sticks of 512 of Ram is a heavy load on a ram controller - have you tested your system thouroughly before playing any games ?

Memtest, PCmark, Aquamark or the likes of ?to see how it does ?

try the vid card in your brothers pc and vice versa, also try the ram...that eliminates those 2 things...make sure you have updated drivers for your mobo and gfx card, also clear your cache in my documents, bf2, mods, cache, or somewhere there,,,,,

Re: Stuttering, even with 2gigs of ram

                    I updated my:

                    BIOS

                    Motherboard drivers

I also deleted shaders.. again, and cleared temp internet files.

which improved some things, I still got annoying hiccups

not the onboard though, surely it doesnt matter if I dont even use it, so its basically disabled I presume.

I have all the dang latest drivers.

brothers video and ram dont make a difference.

although his hard drives are different,

I have a 20 gig very freaken old hard drive longer than 6 years of age which only contains windows and drivers, my other hard drive is a fairly recent 80 gig hard drive.

Maybe my 20 gig hard drive is the reason?

I think its your processor might be worth getting something faster and like you said its worth getting rid of the 20gb hard drive .

My processor is fine, my brother has the same. It just narrows down to the hard drive.

I'll try to get a new hard drive.

Since you say your presuming the onboard is disabled, chances are it is not.

When you first start up your computer, there is a message on the bottom left of the screen saying "press del to enter setup" or somethng similar, press the appropriate button and you should be in the BIOS menu.

Have a look through the many options and see if there is a entry for onboard audio and disable it since your not using it. Might fix your problems, might not.

I disabled onboard audio through BIOS, it still stutters

I'm looking to replace my very old 20 gig hard drive and I hope that does the trick.
