Re: Team work, does it exist?

To answer question - Yes teamwork exists
but it is a rare + glorious thing in
    regular BF2.

Other night on an IO Warlord.
    Saw opposing side working together.
Knew our side was doomed just by seeing our team spread out +
    scattered across map.

I would cap a flag for our side but then have to take on 3 to 5 guys by
myself. Have to take them all out if because if their squad has a medic
    - all she wrote.

As someone mentioned in earlier post - Definitely good idea for
squadleader to stay alive. Recommend medic as good kit choice in order
to revive squadmembers. Staying slight distance away from flag your squad
attempts to capture unless spawn points covered.

Think useful for teamwork on any mode although I never expect it. :hmm:

At some point plan on trying out Project Reality.
Like screenshots, limited kit idea, etc.. ....

      BS.

People will follow a good leader. I have no problems having my squad members follow my directives. If your having problems having squad members follow directives...chances are, your not a good squad leader.

If your a good sqaud leader, as soon as you jump on your favorite server, peeps will rush to join your squad. Not only is it a nice feeling but they have confidence in your abilities.

Things that are a must for effective squad leadership:

VOIP...a must for squad leader (squad members don't need it, its only a bonus if you do)

Using Squad command Screen to layout directives including VOIP.

Sound Tactics (always...no one likes a selfish sqaud leader): this means putting your squad in good positions to complete directives, staying alive to give moble spawn point, ect.

Re: Team work, does it exsist?

A leader of men in a pack of leaders is no leader, but white noise.

A follower of leaders in a pack of leaders is no follower, but a great man.

In teamwork there must be a leader and a follower. One leads, one follows. If both follow, the two will never go anywhere. If both lead, the two will never go the same route. Without unison, there can be no team. With no team, there can be no teamwork.

Welcome to Dairuka's Philosophy 101. If you require a translation, it's simple:

To find the teamwork you seek; you must be the one to create it. Be the follower.

Re: Team work, does it exsist?

Whatever teamwork BF2 has, it cannot even be praised as "awesomeness". There isnt really any teamwork, because it relies on at least one person doing significant sacrifices and constant focus. Which makes teamwork not fun.

And BF2 teamwork doesnt even need that much work, and its already a heavy load on the player.

Yeah but a team that is willing to work together can rule any game!!! I was in a squad using VOIP and we had the top 5 scores not matter what map or what army we were in!!! Medic is always high score, but he would back off and let someone else get the 2 points for flag caps. Our Assult and Spec Ops were 2nd and third, myself at Supply was 4th highest, and our antitank brought up the bottom but still had 59 points!!! We would alternate kits but keep the basic unit as stated above.

You have to really work together (not run all over the map and do what you feel like doing), Communicate well, Trust and follow the squad leader even if you think that he is not making much sense, make sacrifices for the squad, (if the medic is down, you drop your kit and pick up his, and revive your teammates, and yes lose your original kit, but you have to be willing to do that to make a good squad member). You also have to move together but not too tightly that the whole squad gets picked off!! And as squad leader you have to try and keep your unit safe, pick safe routes, and avoid walking into ambushes....hence you have to communicate well with your squad and commander!!!!

Just my 2 cents!!! If you want a good squad member just let me know on Xfire and I will join your squad. (xfire: kulamonster) Otherwise I will be lonewolfing it, since half arsed squads just tick me off and usually end up going back to my trusty M95 and my teamates CLAY and MORE!!!

It can be frustrating to watch others waste their energy on actions that won't contribute to the team's success, but it's a fact of life.

There are different ways to help ensure a victory: mine is soloing the helis... and I happen to be exceedingly efficient at it. Of course, narrowminded c*nts will say I'm selfish when the reality is, I'm doing more for the team than two random players or if an average pilot/gunner hopped in with me.

It's annoying, but that's life. :hmm:

SquadLeader is a position of authority by name alone. You don't actually physically lead. You stay alive.

The advantage of a long lasting mobile spawn point is invaluable. I retreat, advance, hide, dodge, and generally scramble all over the place. I tell the people in my squad, you may pop up anywhere. But you will spawn, and for as long as I can make that humanly possible. That's one of the biggest jobs for the squad leader.

Sometimes in rare circumstances, I go straight to flag. If I have enough guys spawning on me and the timing is right I can slip in and get the flag white as they spawn on me. 4-6 players bring the flag down the pole pretty darn quick. Sometimes I die during the ensuing battle but hopefully the rest of the squad can turn it.

Don't ride in tanks or two man vehicles, unless you've got people smart enough to spawn on you and bail out, or you've coordinated that sort of thing. First off they're big targets for jets and Choppers. As a Squadleader you don't want to be a big target. Give vehicles to your guys, let them know when they pop up at the spawns your trying to take. Get in them if they can't get to them, then when they spawn you hand the vehicles off to them, then hide again.

That's how IMO you should squad lead. Other then very hectic maps where the opponent is attempting to engage as my targets in a short amount of time. Then you may have to lead with your chin to crank up the number of opportunities your guys have to get kills. Jahalabad can be like that. So can S.A.K . Mashtuur city not as much but sometimes.

How do you find team work?

You need a regular set of friends to play with if you want it all the time. Whether you join a clan, or simple become a regular at a certain server where they all play. Rarely will you just happen to join a good ping server and find people who are willing to work as a team. It's not those player's fault. It's just that your a bunch of strangers, and all it takes is having half the squad not care for it to appear your squad is a cluster faq. Then people lose interest, or decide to do what everyone else is doing, which is nothing.

If you do squad lead with strangers, give orders . At least everyone will now know the general objective. Change them as soon as they are achieved. If your not sure throw a purple shield up at the spawn you just took. Many people are impatient in this game. That can be a good thing, at least they want to do something, give them something to do. If you put a defense order they will react accordingly, getting in .50s in vehicles, taking cover, looking out. It's simply something for them to do, while awaiting another "attack" order. It keeps them involved and let's them know your paying attention to their pleas for "we need new orders here". There's nothing worse then joining a squad and seeing the same set of order up for 10minutes. Something you've attacked and capped long ago, but yet the orders don't change. That's a sure sign the SL just isn't paying much attention to what's going on.
                          ^^^QFT

I'll add few ideas and comments to Disfigureds splendid answer. As said staying alive is most important task for SL. Almost as important is capability to communicate. Communication with commander makes squad superior. By establishing a good communication with commander, SL can predict enemy reactions. It also gives possibility to be sure whether there are enemies left near some flag or not. It opens possibility to hit where it's safes or most needed. By negotiating with commander it's even possible to split squad in two and attack against two targets. Squad takes the flag, while SL (+ maybe one medic) heads already towards next target. You can do it if your commander has scanned the area clear for you. Nice bonus for talking with the commander, is that you get your vehicle and supply crate drops almost for certain. Nowadays as a commander, I constantly scan the area and share the information with squads attacking behind enemy frontline.

If it's important for SL to talk with C, it's almost vital to talk with your squad. Share the information given by the commander, share your idea of few next steps but also get feedback from your squad. Supply needs enemies spotted, available vehicles and so. You can see behind your back just by opening your mouth.

Most important element of the SL is awareness. When and where to attack, when to withdraw and defend some key flag. Taking flag closest enemy front creates disturbance, but it may be short lasting. Taking flag behind it splits enemy forces for longer time and gives better time to plan the next steps.

As for getting squad operational, it's easy if you play with some friends, It also works time to time by inviting people to your squad and then kicking those who are not up to the task and not following your orders.

Constantly asking the squad leader for new orders and seeing the squad members scattered around the map wasn't a good start. After trying to get the squad together, asking them to work as a team, I still continued to capture falgs, defend them and generally do my best.
