Re: Sniper Stats
Same for me. When I started out in Vanilla on this account I did full rotations and used every kit in the arsenal.
When SF came around I played somewhat more with the Sniper Kit. Especially on the Night maps it would really own. I still think back with fond memories of Devil's Perch and Night Flight. Maxed out 32/64 servers for awesome battles. Together with Ghost Town it was probably the best time in the game I had.
Without me noticing I had achieved a 5:1 KDR already on the Sniper Rifle with and accuracy of 49% ( 5:1 ).
I did a lot of close up support stuff in those days, the Designated Marksman -style if you like. Lots of kills and lots of stress :) But enjoyable nonetheless with some server regulars.
Overtime SF died out (txs to the absence of support by EA) somewhat and people moved back, via EuroForces
, to Vanilla. This must also have been the time where people whored up Karkand like there was no tomorrow. Medic galore and not tactics whatsoever. Not my cookie. So I wandered of that map and started taking in the lesser played maps on my list. I am not going to name them all but the 3D's (Dragon Valley, Dalian Plant, Daqing Oilfields) are solid maps to play on imo.
The TV2-servers have lots of 24/7 single map servers which were always maxed out with people in 2006. I played most maps, but Dragon Valley stood out as an awesome sniper map for my style by then.
I had moved out of the city and the confined maps of SF and adopted a more laid back playing style. Like most of you I already have enough stress on the day-job and I dont need to extend it to my evenings as well. And D.V. is an excellent map for the more relaxed Scout Sniper -style. Overtime I got a pretty good feeling for the tempo played on this map and it allowed me to keep on increasing my relevant stats on the Sniper Rifle & Kit. Something which by that time was becoming the only challenge left for me in the game (and still is I might add). Flanking troops on the high ridges or from tactical positions to support them in capping flags or defending if the situation calls for it. Dragon Valley is Sniper heaven imho :)
As flippy199 & True-WarMachine already posted there is no definitive way of stating what makes a good Sniper.
It depends largely on your personal playing style and the goals you have for that session/account.
When I look at my own account these days I know I can take it further than where it is at know. My average over time has become 50:1 for the Rifle and as of late 60% for the Accuracy. I think when I go 20:1 and 58% the game will be dead and replaced with something else. Those are my overall goals besides having a lot of fun with friends & server regulars on TV2 servers :)
My own list of good snipers (based on personal experience):
ChikyuuShoujoArujuna - #4 Sniper in the World & Best Designated Marksman (he is like a tornado on City maps and in a league of his own);
dont_be_ss - #9 Sniper in the World & Best Scout Sniper (LRSW if you like, he holds the long distance record with a kill over 610 meters on Dalian Plant);
Books_DCDF - #17 Sniper in the World & Best Allround Sniper (most steady Sniper who has been in the Top-20 for as long as I can remember).
From my own country they would have to be:
gjors65 - #59 Sniper in the world & a good Long Range Sniper
cohen1976 - very nice 5:1 KDR & 63.69% Accuracy.
