2.)you have an extra infantry for the ground.

So stop crying that you get TK'd out of the gunner seat, If you suck, you deserve it.

I'm only a solo'er if no one I know is on (which is never... or really early or really late), and on top of that, if i'm not in a jet.

Re: The Truth Behind the Lack of Good Gunners

In reply to the sentence stating the lack of gunners.

first, don't go saying how you "hate" or "say" that a problem in BF2 is really annoying. Yes, there are over a 100 mil thread that have the same subject like this.

second, they're just new to the game and/or spent most of their combat career on the ground or in the airplane (rather than chopper).

third, they're are a lot of good gunners still around. You just need to go to the right servers (i.e. N2K's server).

fourth, solo'ers are usually great soldiers necessary for the battle (in terms of winning the BATTLE). Points isn't about the game. It is about teamwork, so if a chopper with one pilot is solo'ing, you best thank him/her if he finishes top five and your team wins by a split decision. No it is not cheap. If it is, then EVERYBODY would be taking off in a helo by themselves and go solo'ing. Heck, I'm a good gunner (depending on mood) and I crashed a lot by trying solo'ing.

fifth, no one guns good if you don't position them for a clear shot.

sixth, everyone makes mistakes. I misclick a lot of times i get a clear shot.

seventh, its just a game, have fun.

MonkMonkMan speaks the painful truth with a frank yet arrogant wisdom that is well beyond the understanding of the typical TBF2 poster.

People complain about solo'ers, because those people that solo in the helicopter, aren't allowing the people who are grounded get any easy points in the helicopter. You have to remember that these are the same people who enjoy dying for an easy 2 revive points, or dying for an easy 2 claymore kills. Why the hell would they be mad if they got a few easy kills in a helicopter before dying horrifically to a TV-missle?

Re: The Truth Behind the Lack of Good Gunners

The thing about pubs and gunners...and here's the real truth. Clan base, TS/Vent/VoIP. Most clan gunners(to name a few in my clan, Gortok, Splinter, Mole) only fly with another from our clan 98% of the time(me, Gortok, ZackThePirate). We hardly ever just join pubs and fly with randoms. When creating a chopper team out of randoms...communication is a HUGE factor. If you're not on Vent or TS, you might as not fly with the person. I've found VoIP to be less than useful. Seems to take longer than it should(Vent is faster than TS, which is faster than VoIP). Not to mention, not all servers are set up with VoIP.

I've been with pilots, who can fly, dodge, maneuver, but can't set up shots worth anything. They think that as long as the enemy is in their view, then the gunner can see him(through the TV screen). Most wannabe pubstar pilots don't know the location of the TV screen on the choppers (www.secretsofbattlefield.com for more info), and then blame it on the gunners.

You're either friends in other ways(Pred and hawaiin's video Pred just put up) or are in a clan together. Two randoms coming together will not be 100% effective, ever.

              Benefits of soloing.
              1. No need for communication
              2. You know how you fly and gun
              3. A good soloer can devastate a round
              4. Competition: some maps really can't afford to have 2 people in a chopper at once.

              Drawbacks of soloing.
              1. Skill deprived smacktards/tkers
              2. Flaming
              3. A self-proclaimed solo elitist is not as effective on infantry(hence why I've been practicing solo machine gunning).

              My two cents.

                I'll say it again...

You won't get good at something by NOT doing it...

So you ***** and moan about bad gunners, yet you would rather solo than teach someone how to become a gunner... You are feeding the falacy.

Don't get me wrong. I hate it when my team has ****ty air support... but I will bet everything in the known world that you people did not jump into a helo/jet for the first time (or second or third) and own everything. Give me a freakin break. It takes time to learn this game, and your selfish attitude and ignorant stance is actually hurting YOU in the long run, which causes more bitching and moaning.

Ignorant may not be the best word... but the idea stands.

Re: The Truth Behind the Lack of Good Gunners

For as many people who team kill to solo, there's plenty of other players that welcome new players to gun. Plenty of maps have more than one chopper for the team.

I will never team kill someone just to solo(or redline) unless they absolutely positively deserve it. It's a pub...who cares?

For those of you who say...It's not your chopper, SHARE. It's not yours either. This is my game as much as it is yours, and I'll play however I damn well please. I just wish people would think twice about saying/doing some of the stupid **** they do.

Don't like it...play with a friend. Don't have friends(which I highly doubt half of the members of TBF2 do), join a clan/community and play with them(techonvent.net has some really nice guys, and a BF2 and CS:S server).

Don't ***** to me because I know I can do better without you. Not cocky or arrogant, it's more than anything a fact. I've played with a few(not even a few...) randoms and did VERY well. Even switched positions when we crashed/got shot down. But it's RARE. In fact, only one time has it happened that actually stands out to me. I don't even remember his name. But we did very well that round.

When I solo, I always make a squad. The reasoning is simple; if somebody wants in badly enough, they will join my squad, spawn in the gunner's seat, and talk with me over VOIP. I don't make myself inaccessable, I just don't advertise myself to the morons.

If the person is actually willing to try, but is doing a job so poor that it drags us both down, I'll suggest that he download Battlefield 2 Single Player 64 Map mod, and Battlefield 2 Single Player Bot Changer so that they can practice in peace. They won't have to fight anybody for the chopper there afterall.

I learned through vigorous self-determination and training on the Single Playered Map mod. When I first started helicopter piloting and gunning on public servers, I made a very strong effort to join that person's squad so we could communicate through VOIP.

People who jump into the helicopter's gunner seat, without even going so far as to make an attempt to join my squad, get very little to absolutely no respect from me. Especially after I ask them to join my squad in Team Chat.

Ignorance is being without knowledge. You seem to fit the build better than I would, since you're speaking without any clue as to the possible reasons as to why a person would choose solo'ing over duo'ing with a team-mate who is unwilling to work with you.

I only pick up people who make an effort. I refuse to pick people up who just click the, "Need Pickup!" button a thousand times, before whining in team chat about how much of a whore I am for solo'ing.

Uh... I didn't mean the idea of ignorance stands... the idea of the post does.

Just remember that 90% of BF2 players do not subscribe to fora so they lack a lot of knowledge.

So how about non-empathy or non-sympathy?

:edit: I'm not defending out-right idiots... squadding-up and communication (VoIP, TS, Vent) are key. I agree.

Neptune, you said you sucked once too when you were Sergeant. Everybody did, what did we do? We learned, now if someone doesn't listen to you and just being an a$$hat, OK, go solo. But if someone enters your vehicle and listen to you, learns, tries to improve? You should let him learn like you once did.

I learned in my own free time. In servers that were about 5 people per team so i wouldn't piss anyone off. People should have enough common knowledge to try and do the same. If not playing in SP even before that.

Joining my squad to listen to me in VOIPO, is a requirement for being my gunner. I can help spot enemies afterall, and I refuse to type out "STOP GUNNING THE TANK AND TV THE HELI INFRONT OF US YOU MORON!" in team chat...

                              However...

I've never redlined for the purpose of getting out a bad gunner. (Although I have been known to do it for revenge against people who've redlined me...)

I've never purposely bailed out and crashed a helicopter.

I've never flew around like an idiot to get somebody to jump out.

Instead, if I get stuck with a particularly bad gunner, I simply land the helicopter near a vehicle, and take the vehicle to go do something else.

Of course, I let the helicopter gunner know that he needs to practice and that he is welcome to get himself killed as often as he'd like, just that I won't die so he can 'slowly' learn how to guide a TV-missle. That is something that is basic helicopter knowledge, you need to learn how to do that before you go into a public server that is populated. If you don't; you shouldn't get mad at me for ditching your sorry arse.

You can't oppose solo'ing, because people who solo have many exceptionally good reasons for doing what they do. It's efficient. It's effective. It's team-friendly. It's easier.

I was never against solo'ing in the past; but having gone through the helicopter growing pains, I most certainly do support it now.
