WTF does ping have to do with a dusty heatsink? By cleaning his heatsink all of a sudden his ping is going to halve?

Like I said anytime you have ping spikes, connection errors, 1st thing to do is update punkbuster. There was an update like 2 days ago.

Its not going to hurt cleaning out the dust but it sure as hell won't affect your ping.

Obviously, make sure the computer is unplugged. Open the case. DESHOCK yourself (usually just grab the metal frame of the computer or a chair). Take out the video card, and vacuum the dust. Put it back in and close the case. Power on the comp.

:edit: You didn't recently convert to a wireless connection, did you? Wireless is horrible for online gaming. Always use a wire.
Using a vacuum is a very bad idea, they generate alot of static which can easily fry something. That is why people use compressed air in a can

Sorry I didn't clarify if that ^^ was directed at me.
Updated PB manually and fixed ping, that was the only thing it fixed. A can of air fixed the chop and lag problems.

Yo Yo Yo Dog!!! Its your friggin ISP!!! I have a cable modem and have had 700+ hours of awesome ping and BF2 bliss. Now when I first sign on all the servers range from 500 - 2500 for ping!!!!!!!!!!!! This is bull but that is what my cable is saying. Adelphia is switching to Comcast, and they are royally screwing things up here in VT and NH!!! My ping used to be 20 - 200 for 2 years, Comcast does this switch over and now it bounces off the wall. If I update my in game server list a second time the ping drops to 78-500, but that is still a lot higher than it used to be. Considering most game servers will boot you if your too far over 100 ping!!!

Sigh....the problems with Company mergers and acquisitions!!!

Normally (for me anyway) the ping in the servers list, and the ping in the actual server differs 20-50. Or in rare cases by 100's or 1000's. MY favorite server always says my ping will be around 2500-5690 no matter how many times I update the list or click on eh server. But when I'm in the server my ping is 10-22.

What's your framerate? Try clearing out your in-game cache. Also, there might be a mismatch in AA modes between your BF2 settings and nVidia profile settings. I couldn't get over 10fps when that happened (using 2x mode in BF2 but 4x 9-t in nHancer).

I don't think it's graphic related either (CPU, cache, RAM Vcard).

It's more likely router, ISP, or internal bandwidth usage problems.

Try playing off line and see how things go.

That way you can rule out most of the graphic hardware as the problem. Although playing off line is generally less intensive it should only be by a few frames. If a dirty CPU heat sink will cause stutter and strange graphics online, it should do the same off line.

If it doesn't, then you know you have a problem with something else.

Easy trouble shoot, even for you Neptune.

First rule of trouble shooting a problem, narrow things down by the easiest way possible.Think it's a network problem? Disconnect other computers and eliminate routers and hubs. Play game online . Better or worse?

Think it's an ISP problem ? Play off line. Better or worse?

Once you've narrowed things down, then concentrate on those areas you can't eliminate.

Check all your fans too, not just the cpu. Is the Vcard fan spinning? This would cause locking up and not persistent stutter, or high pings, but check it anyway.

                          Also

Recycle your modem or cable ISP box, unplug it (not turn it off), for 2 minutes. Then fire it back up again. Let it reacquire the connections it need to. When my DSL provider does major rerouting or other work, or when it increased my speeds, I needed to completely cycle down and reboot the modem.

Scan for malware, spyware, with free utilities, you could have a nasty one in there sucking up bandwidth. Turn off all automatic updates for every device that uses them (including windows). One of them could be (unbenounced to you) attempting to get software updates.

Call your ISP and swear at them. It might not help but it feels good.

                            I'm guessing it's Battlefield 2.
Did you change anything with Battlefield 2 since you got it? Like did you download any other games? That might slow it down?

thanks for your posts guys, and disfigured ill do all of that later on. Anyway ive also noticed that i never get into games quickly (long loading times, especially verifying). i used to be like one of the first people in a round, but now im like the tenth last on a full server. My comp used to be so quick at loading, and i still keep my harddrive around 200 gigs free, right now its at 201. Could this be part of the problem or seperate?
