600 Hours, and im introduced to lag

I have never seen anything like this! every server i go to lags like crazy. I used to always go to these servers and now its unplayable!!! i recently havnt done anything new to my computer other than uninstall a few programs. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this? Anyone else have problems like this?

my ping is doubled (usually 40s, now 90s) and i cant run in a straight line, it always slightly moves to the right or twitches left. Its very choppy, too choppy for my likings!

    Me or BF2?????????

Could be a number of things..your connection, a change in your isp's service, to much spyware on your pc, a lot of things can affect your ping lol. My ping has its days but most of the time its like 25-30 my fps however..lets nto go there I have to run everything on LOW, and it works fine in multiplayer hit singleplayer I still get fps lag.

It's not necessarily fps...it could be your CPU/RAM can't handle the load that generating the AI takes.

        @the OP

It could be a number of things. One can never be sure.

definetly not my computer, i bet its my internet. I got 2 gigs of ram so i dont think thats the problem.

i was hoping for a "press this button and your internet connection speed will triple" kinda answer but i know that will never happen...

I had the same problem as you. Did you take your old computer off your local network? that was my problem, when i got my new computer my home network just couldn't keep up with all the transfers. That may or may not be your problem, but it sounds very close to what I had. I just bought a better router and the problem was solved.

edit: the best way to tell is to play bf2 offline. if it lags then you may very well have a problem with your computer if it doesn't, the problem will either be with your local network or ISP. if you did have this problem before you got this computer it will almost certainly be your local network.

its gotta be my network then, it works perfectly fine offline, in fact i get 30% better frame rate but thats just because theres no one playing. I found that in bf2 every 2 players cost you about a frame a second.

and i got a d-link router, di-704up or something, how am i spose to know if its good?

please try this, If you have never Cleaned your CPU & Graphics heatsink before

Do So Now ( dust is one of the most common causes of lag/poor game play )

Wow I wish I had a dollar for everytime I told people this.

Update your punkbuster, use pbsetup.exe from www.evenbalance.com Check for updates regularly there is a new PB update for BF2.

Don't blow air into it... Use a vacuum to suck everything out. Blowing air in can get dust stuck more than it already is.

Obviously, make sure the computer is unplugged. Open the case. DESHOCK yourself (usually just grab the metal frame of the computer or a chair). Take out the video card, and vacuum the dust. Put it back in and close the case. Power on the comp.

:edit: You didn't recently convert to a wireless connection, did you? Wireless is horrible for online gaming. Always use a wire.

I had the same problem Neptune. Choppy, laggy and weird ping. I tried everything under the sun to fix it and in the end it was just dust. Buy a can of air and blow that crap out of there and you'll be amazed at the difference.

Reinstalling windows always gives me HUGE performance gains.

Re: 600 Hours, and im introduced to lag

It could be some of the things other people mentioned but........

                            Do you have cable?

Cable systems are notorious for losing their upload stability. It's lack of upload that usually causes lag, especially intermittent lag. Since most of us with broadband type connections have plenty of DL, it's usually not DL that causes lag. Even when DL varies, there's usually enough of it to compensate.

Are there new houses being built in your neighborhood? Have any telephone poles been worked on near you recently , or street work, the digging up and moving of utilities? That sort of thing? A couple of new users or rerouted cable lines and you could have a problem.

Years ago I had a friend (online gamer friend) who could host smooth games from his home in the early days of cable ISPs. A college went "online" just near him, and after that he was lucky if you could join a game without lagging. That's an extreme example, but it happens in smaller versions all over the place.

I had a cable connection that went sour in a matter of days. No matter how much I bitched and complained they could not and were not obligated to do anything. Cable companies do not have to guarantee you any amount of upload stability. The system was built for one way transmission and they lobbied the FCC (quite a few years ago), not to have an upload standard. Can't really blame them.

You could try calling them and have them address the problem. But if you can send Email and do the basic things that use uploading, then they probably won't take you seriously.

I ended up with a DSL line with half the DL speed of my former cable provider, but it never lags. Not in good pinged games anyway.

If nothing has changed and you getting incredible lag, I'd suspect your router first, ISP next, and then Computer/Graphics/ last.

Easy trouble shoot on the network. Eliminate it if you can, or at least eliminate any other users on it. Physically and mechanically eliminate anything that might cause a problem, only use the machine you game with, if you can ditch the router and still connect, do so. See if it improves anything.

                            Good Luck.

lol (im an IT guy) and i just use a paint brush and let the heatsink fan blow it allover the place

but most of my friends use a paint brush to loosen the dust up then just hover it

If your heatsink is full of dust, once clean you will notice a big difference straight away
