frantically tap del on boot up.. or something like that.. itll tell you which key and when usually on start up. fun fun! dont go into the red though =O

I use an nVidia 6800 at 1024x756 with all settings on high and AA off. I do not get any lag at all, so your 7800GT should be much better!

RAM is the answer my man!!! 2 GB!!! I run 2GB (Corsair's Platinum 2048 Matched Twins ultra low latency) Also, I have hit ctrl-alt-del to get to taskman during a game and BF.exe is using 850MB of RAM!!! So definitley get 2GB because some background processes you can't turn off, and that chews away at how much of your 1GB is actually available for BF2!!
