i want more fps

right now i play bf2 at settings at

texture-medium
lighting-off
shadows-off
dynamic shadows-off
dynamic lights-off
AA-off
texture filtering-medium

and i still get lag sometimes when my ping is pretty low

my com specs are
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 1gb (Gonna get another gig)
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT OC

if i add another GB of ram, will it increase my fps?

With that GPU you should definately get HIGH on all with AA maxed out. I have a 7600GT w/o OC and I can run on all HIGH.

What you need is another GB of RAM and you'll be able to run on all high!

i have 2 gigs of ram, 7600 gt not o/c, and 2 3.0 ghz cpu.

i run at all high, except no anti-aliasing and low dynamic shadows and light, with 1280x1024 resolution, and i average around 35-40 fps on full servers.

i think video cards maintain a high frame rate, while ram makes it not studder every once in a while. im not too sure bout this though.

now that was a real useless post. what he wanted was not lower lag, but higher FPS. and he didn't want to run on lower settings. and we better hope he knows that lower settings = higher FPS.

how hard can it be to at least try and post something useful?

Polish, What resolution are you playing at? That's one of the largest determining factors on performance.

There's no such thing as "max" like doggie is stating unless you also list resolution. Even if your resolution is maxed it could be a very low resolution because of your monitor. Your monitor is what determines the amount of resolutions that get listed in the BF2 Video area. If you have a crap 17" LCD who's "max" resolution is 1024x768, then yes a 7600GT can play everything on high. If you've got a half way decent monitor that supports higher resolutions then the a 7600GT gets left in the dust, when you attempt to play at those higher resolutions.

List your resolution when asking advice. It could be as simple as choosing the next one down from what your settings are now. If your up around 1600x1200, then defiantly try gearing it back to something lower.

If you start out with a good frame rate, but it "lags", it could be your connection. Unless you closely monitor your ping during these periods of lag you won't know. Your ping could be dropping out from under you then quickly returning. Cable connections are notorious for this is some areas.

Go to BroadBandReports and use their speed test. But do it a couple of times in a row, see if your upload (not download), varies greatly. If it drops to very low rates, this could be your culprit, and all the settings you make might not have an impact on the lag. Only improving the stability of your upload will resolve the problem. Also do their TweakTest. Use the utilities there to make the adjustments to your registry. Read carefully the instructions though, before doing so. Your looking for stability not necessarily pure speed. If you've got broad band, then you've probably got enough download speed and stability, but if your upload isn't equally stable, it can cause massive lag problems.

Also, if you start out with a good frame rate but get periodically bad moments of lousy frame rates, it could be something running besides BF2. Something could be "asking" for cpu or bandwidth , while your playing. An auto-update from a program? Anit-virus doing a scan? Do you have any messengers open when playing (X-fire, AOL, Windows LIve)?

Shut down everything running in the background that you can. One program may be the culprit, while others have no effect on the game. It's never a bad idea to simply play with nothing else running. As much as it's nice to have messengers open and other things, they can cause problems. Even an Email program that periodically checks and DLs mail can cause major problems. Turn off all your auto-updates for hardware and other programs. Often times they will access the internet and cause lag.

I'd also turn effects down to at least medium. Effects are rocket trails, explosions , water spray and other eye candy. They are graphic intensive when set to high, and you'll only notice a slight difference when they are on medium or low, since they are not being displayed all the time. Plus they slow you down when the most action is happening, when you can least afford to have a a drop in frame rate.

Another gig of RAM will help.

I'm sorry, I missed that out. I guess I'm getting used to a WS resolution. With my resolution (1440x900) I get more than 50 FPS in every situation with everything maxed out.

Your CPU is weak, that could be a contributing factor, it's probably bottlenecking your card (my P4 3.0ghz did).

Try OCing the CPU, see if that helps. If not, try the GFX card. Doing that will help eliminate the source of bottlenecks (I'm positive it's the CPU though).

I don't understand how you people claim to get such high FPS. I run the game at 1280x960 (on 20" LCD), with a couple settings at high, no AA and the rest on medium. This is what is playable for me. My setup:

Intel Pentium D805 @ 3,3 GHz

160 Gb SATA2 harddrive

I've come to the conclusion that some people just settle for less. For some people this claimed 35-40 FPS is "smooth", but even though mine shows numbers higher than this most of the time, I think this is the bare minimum. It's great that people are happy with what they have, but often this seems too low for me. I don't think it's all about the "how many frames your eyes will see as smooth" when it comes to hectic situations in the game. I'd rather sacrifice a couple details than be killed because of a low FPS.

I used to play with most details on high and 4x AA. This seemed totally smooth. But for me this has changed. I noticed that, after lowering the settings, it wasn't in fact that smooth. At least not as smooth as it could be.

I wanted to give some kind of comparison for you. I am not exactly sure what a 7600 GT is capable of, but it's still quite a lot slower than what I have. At least lower the effects to medium. Check out the TweakGuides.com BF2 guide (click here). Very nice guide with information about what different settings do, and how much of the visuals you will lose by lowering them.

ive came back from bf2142 to fresh my skill in BF2 but with new rig...with everything maxed out on 1280x1024 i got from 100-250 fps using game.lockfps command and I love it

I agree that some people are happy with lower frame rates while others are much more discerning.

With that said.........

I would think you'd be able to do better then the frames your getting. My specs are listed below, fairly equal to yours, with a slightly worse Vcard, and I play at 1600x1200 everything on high, with 2xAA. I rarely drop into the 40s for framerate, and my average hovers in the high 60's. I could make it smoother, but after about a 70framerate average, I don't notice enough advantage or quality for sacrificing some graphics. But that's just me.

Do you have a soundcard? That could be the difference. I'm not up to snuff on the Intel chips and there ability to run games better or worse then their AMD counterparts, so it could be that too. You might want to check what you have running in the background too. With those specs I would think you should be able to turn a few more things on. When was the last time you updated your drivers? I found the last two Nvidia releases for our cards provided some improvement in BF2.

Comparing basic specs, with no details about RAM speed, mobo manufacturer, driver versions, bios settings, OC"ing, and other things is only a rough estimate. Off the top of my head I think you should check some things out, I get the feeling that you should be able to get a decent framrate (60-70) with your specs and the rez your using, and be able to still turn some settings to high.

Unless your shooting for framerates in the 100s. If thats what makes you enjoy the game, then so be it.

I also would never tolerate a 35-50 average framerate in BF2. Other games (race sims RTSs) it's not as crucial. But a high frame rate in BF2 can keep you alive and for me it just looks so much smoother in the 60-70's.

Yeah a lot of people do, me included. You just get used to setting your resolution and forget it. But when everyone starts comparing specs and frame rates, to try and figure out if they're getting everything out of their machines they can, everyone has to list accurate settings and especially resolutions. That we can tell if some one is having a problem.
