Re: Not enough time in the day

I hear you all. I work a 1PM-10PM shift, so I might be able to play at night when I get home. But owning a home and always having a million projects to do just kills your game life. If my wife is at work I will get a few extra hours in, but it is damn hard to be an adult and still game.

It is a tough balance that most spouses have trouble understanding, because they associate it to only children play games. Thing is, we are the first generation to growup playing video games. And just as our fathers might have played Chess or poker, we as adults still gravitate to our classic outlet. And with the invention of the internet, it is still a form of socialization. I think that the people that are kids now, will see less stigma associated with gaming as adults as we feel now.

Everything is a balance, and if everything in your life is taken care of, it should not be as bad...but it is so damn addictive, that is hard to not let it unbalance your life.

I average maybe 4 hours during the week max.. all I have time for really.

On the weekends I can usually log about 6-7 hours total.

There are so many things I would like to try and do within the game but because my time is so limited I have to try cramming all my fun into 30 minutes.

Anyone else have this issue? Do you find that your time is so limited you stick to servers with only one map to avoid loading? Do you switch a lot between classes to get a little in of each? Hopefully I dont get flamed on my first thread but **** happens.

On a side not I remember when I enlisted in the Air Force. I was in the Delayed Entry Program so I had four months to wait until I went to boot camp. I didnt do **** in that four months except work and play MOH:AA. So Im not flaming anyone who can play 3-4 hours a night.....just jealous
I could play as many hours of the day that I choose as I have the time and money. I have a wife and child. They are my first priority. What's your first prioirty?

The more time you get won't solve anything, you will play 1 round then another and another, even if you play 2 hours you still be like, "Gee, that was short I wish I had more time!" 1 round usually lasts 45 minutes...(WITH ME IN IT HEHE)!

Good grief! That sounds exactly like what I was going to say. It's a Saturday, so I'm changing oil in two cars, doing taxes, taking care of the animals, and working on the logistics of moving into a new apartment--after I finish a couple of experiments that will (hopefully) move my Ph.D. degree closer to this century. I may or may not get an hour or so to play this weekend, and if I do, I'll probably waste those hours on Oblivion.

But, as far as the lack of chess these days go, I still play with my dad and brothers fairly often when we visit. I just have to resist the urge to hop up and yell "Pwnzers!!!" instead of "check". I did stop playing poker after I left the navy. I found out that not everyone plays as badly as the U.S.M.C., and that with normal people, I can sometimes even lose money. :)

I spend the same amount of time playing BF2 or other games as I would normally spending watching crap on TV. Since I hate most of the crap on TV nowadays, I play BF2 instead.

                        ^^ My thoughts exactly

Nowadays I don't need sleep so much anymore, 6 hours is enough. My wife, on the other hand wants to sleep much, so it leaves me pretty much time to do what ever I like:)

Also gaming has improved my English skills. Before gaming I wasn't that good with English and I was even a bit afraid about using foreign language in public. Well, I still don't excel with it, but no I dare to use what I have learned.

That is my way of justifying a lot of my gaming. I could be watching TV, so instead, I would rather just experience what I see, instead of just passively watching it.

when i first got BF2, i played it in almost all my freetime....anytime i had a few moments to myself, i wasted it loading a map....

i got a girlfriend now, so that is where i allocate ALL of my freetime....when im not spending days at a time at her house, ill chill at my house and load up BF2....like late at night or somthing

Thanks for the responses! It's nice seeing there's a lot of us out there. Today my wife was like why dont you move the computer into the kitchen so you can play when I go to bed (I stay up later a lot). She is one of those wives that likes when Im happy and it made me love her even more. I wont do it though because then I will be finding crayons in my A: drive and the mouse will be tied around a barbie or something . Good luck to everyone in the same boat. It's all about balance.
